Who should he be in instead of?

I haven’t seen the squad myself but just wondering, not being arsey. Just wondering.
Foden. Grealish has earned a spot through consistent performance. Foden may well end up a better player, but right now he’s not really shown enough to warrant a call up over Grealish.

So his reward for almost single-handedly keeping Villa up is being priced out of a move along with not being in the NT team squad picture...

A cautionary tale about signing a new contract for talented young players at mid to lower clubs.

Ward-prowse or Abraham. See absolutely zero sense in having Kane, Ings and Abraham in a squad you're never going to drop Kane

I'd argue getting in this City team and playing against Real Madrid in the CL is better than being a big fish at Villa.

Grealish needs to move to be recognised it's pretty simple.

I'd have put him in ahead of Hudson Odoi. England have enough pace in final third with Sanco, Sterling Rashford but that dosen't tend to help in later stages of tournaments when best nations could set up the defences to negate it e.g. Croatia in SF.

What England need to actually make a final is more tempo and ball playing midfielders. Foden getting called up is a good start but need more of that ilk and well Grealish simply is. Based on last season's form there isn't 20 better English players than him.

Yeah didn't think you would be too impressed about that, left out a decent defender and full back too in my opinion

Makes it more likely he'll put in a transfer request soon so I'm less confident we'll keep him for another 12 months now.

Just seen Oxlade-Chamberlain is in the squad, I thought he was injured for next month given what Klopp was saying?

Edit: I was reading the squad and it's actually the one from November v Kosovo. Wiki not updated yet.

Foden should be in, he's a potential generational player for England.

My midfield would be Henderson/Rice- Foden-Grealish.

From what I’ve read from posters - he definitely should be in instead of at least Hudson Odoi, Ward Prowse and Abraham

Don’t need Abraham when you already have Kane and Ings. Rashford and Greenwood can also play striker.

This is Southgate though, he remains loyal to players he's had previously. You argument extends to Abraham for me. You're not putting all three of him, Kane and Ings on the pitch with the lads you've just mentioned.

Does it suggest he will now look at Mason and think go to Utd and I could force my way into this squad next summer
Think it was always the case he would need to move. Shouldn't be the case, but that might need to happen. Seeing Southgate is an ex Villa player you would think he has kept an eye on him.

CHO isn’t included?

Surprised no one is questioning Winks inclusion yet. Such a weak player IMO, the new Cleverley.

Southgate you bloody idiot.:(
Yup say goodbye to Jack.
So he didn't make it then hmmm, how are you feeling about things after that news
I cannot see a good reason other than a stupidly high contract for him to stay at Villa. IMO this is the final nail in the coffin

He wanted assurances he could leave earlier in the year and added to this losing out on a deserved England call up I cannot see Villa keeping him if a club comes calling. Arsenal or Spurs IMO.

Not sure what it is as Mings keeps getting called up although of course CB options are probably the weakest area of the squad.

Grealish can also win lots of free kicks around edge of the area so you'd think that would be another plus with all the set piece goals England scored at last world cup.

It is a really strange one. Yet the likes of Winks and Dier get picked.

Woody bribed Southgate to leave Grealish out so he can push for a move to United. Eeeed Woodward, he's done it.....

for the first time

Don't think we still have even the slimmest hope then, like I said in another thread I cannot understand why we aren't looking at exploring player plus cash options for him at all because it just makes so much financial sense in this market.

My Villa supporting mate is having a proper fit, seems to think Greenwood of all people is stealing a place ahead of Jack.

Not Winks, Dier, Mount, Ward-Prowse, Mings, Keane, Abraham or Ings. He's upset with 18 year old, 17 goals in all comps, breakthrough super talent Mason Greenwood getting selected ahead of 24 year old, 10 goals in all comps, captain of a side that only stayed up because technology failed Jack Grealish. No matter that one of them is a right wing forward/striker and then other is an attacking midfielder/sometimes left winger.

I sometimes think he is 30% Villa fan, 70% ABU.

I tend to agree. Mason had an incredible season but he won't play ahead of Sterling, Rashford or Sancho so he's literally just there to be a possible bench option and enjoy the training. Its definitely a nod to the future.

Grealish they could actually use. Hes incredibly versatile. I genuinely cannot get my head round it. And Southgate cannot cite his lockdown nonsense consider Harry got fecking arrested.

Anyone questioning Ings is a fecking idiot though

It just goes to show, a squad player in a so called bigger team has more chances to be in the England team than playing for Villa and being the main man.

He should push for a move if he wants to be in the Euros squad.

There is no good reason if he’s ambitious and wants the best for his career for him to now stay at Villa.

He has done what he can for Villa , he is going to be 25 in September. It would be better for him to move to a bigger club and show what he can do when he is approaching his prime.

Surely, playing 40 games for Manutd, Spurs or the like is better than 55 games for Villa ?

I don't think it has anything to do with the club he's playing at, he seems for whatever reason to have something against him same as Smalling though with the latter he stupidly declared his reasons publicly.

When he scored that goal against West Ham, I was thinking, "well that's him not leaving Villa for us."

Southgate has an eye for quality. Grealish is an average footballer.

Maybe if he was surrounded by the Spain midfielders from their 3 cups in a row period.

Certainly not by any sensible metric in the Premier league.
