That's true actually, I do recall Grealish stating in an interview that he prefers to play as an 8 and his manager mentioning his ability to play in a midfield two.

With shaw and awb as our full backs, such a midfield of bruno and Grealish (presumtious, I know) could work. It does need high energy players who are more then willing to press and track back and work together as a unit.

Come to think of it, the thought of such a midfield is quite tempting.

Both have their pros and cons, Bruno can be gotten now and we have a seemingly free run at him but he's unproven in a top league. Grealish is having a good season in the PL and if Villa go down would be very attainable but he also is playing more from the left than centrally this season and I imagine many other PL clubs would be in for him and might be difficult to sign. Both are leaders at their current clubs and usually carry the side.

IMO we need players in now, I think we need to take the gamble on Bruno being able to translate his game to the PL. Though I don't have a real preference as long as we get a player who is of the standard required.

Isn't Fernandes box to box so more of a McTominay type? Whenever I've seen him he dosen't strike me as a Bernardo Silva type who can drift between the lines which is someone Grealish can study and develop more.

Bruno Fernandes has actually played longer in Serie A than Portugese league I think although when I asked the question no one really seemed to know how well he did at Udinese and Sampdoria. Unless of course you don't consider Serie A a top league anymore.

He was mediocre by all accounts which is why he took a backwards step in going back to Portugal. The Italian league is the 4th ranked in Europe at the moment and is closer to Holland and Portugal in coefficient points in recent seasons than England or Spain.

Sorry that was a tongue-in-cheek comment. Football is 11 vs 11. How to fit them into midfield doesn't matter, it's how they would fit in the team that does. City couldn't get away with playing De Bruyne and Silva if they weren't so good and if they didn't have sterling, aguero, mahrez up top and if their coach wasn't good enough to fit them all together seamlessly

If City replaced Aguero with Messi, one of Sterling and Mahrez would have to be dropped in favour of someone like Callejon for example.

Played on the right hand side of midfield in the Nations League, has good movement and shifts the ball quickly, however, anyone expecting a Silva type player are in for a shock.

Nah, he's a 10 but he has an insane engine and work rate so people I guess confuse him or have this idea he can play deeper maybe. Definitely does his best work in the final 3rd.

Okay, maybe you'd rather live in London and might take less to play for Arsenal or Spurs or Chelsea, but it seems strange to me more players don't push to join United. Yep, I actually watched a lot of Villa last year and you are correct, sir. I was very surprised at the time to see how deep he'd be, and how it was McGinn who was the one who was positioned further forwards in possession. Sorta like a second striker he was that close to Abraham at times. Back then, I would've thought it'd be the other way around, but it worked great.

I thought he looked excellent in the role, too. His stats obviously weren't as good as when he's played from the left, but I think the way he could bring the ball forward from deep, control games, calm things down when things got shaky, etc, benefitted the team as a whole just as much as his performances further forwards did. However, losing Abraham who was a goal threat and replacing him with someone who's taking a bit to adjust meant he was needed further forwards.

A few months ago I likened him to Barca's Arthur because, like him, he's so calm in possession. Like Arthur who's great at this, he literally baits the opposition into coming at him as he knows he's strong enough, and knows he has the technical quality to keep the ball under control under pressure, and it almost always results in him getting fouled because they just can't get the ball.

Back when I made that post likening him to Arthur, I said that Grealish was obviously nowhere near his quality, but I've changed my mind now. He's great at what Arthur does - resisting opposition, which I think is Arthur's only strong attribute - but is a better passer/creater on top of that, too. I don't think there's much in it, to be honest.

I agree with you likening him to Isco, too. I watched pretty much every game of Malaga in 12/13 because I just found the team so entertaining, and the way Isco played from the left back then is similar to how Grealish does now. Same with how D.Silva used to play out wide for City, too. He's obviously not a carbon copy of those players, and may never be as good as them, but his strengths as a player are similar to the aforementioned players which is why - along with the fact he's already shown he can play at CM; albeit at a lower level - I think he could become a very good CM.

If Pogba is indeed looking for an out (purely speculative) then we should already be laying down a plan to get this lad as his replacement. Not very often a single player can have the impact on a team like he has been doing the last 18month or longer. Oozes class on the ball and his attitude is well within the bounds that we can expect him to carry on improving. No brainer for me, to much sense involved for our board though. We will try to get him a week after selling Pogba and every team will instantly increase the value once we come calling then. Can see it all now. Sigh.

According to Irish laws if one of your parents is an Irish citizen by the time of your birth then so are you automatically so both his parents most likely were born both English and Irish. Perhaps without exact details you can't write it differently on wiki.

Dortmund would probably demand more for Sancho than they did for Dembele. I think he's most likely to go to Chelsea, really, especially as they must have plenty in the bank after the transfer ban. City are another option but they're generally reluctant to spend that much on a single player. Maybe Liverpool if one of their front three goes for big money?

I've no idea on Graelish but I imagine he'll still cost £80m+ if Villa aren't relegated.
