Jack Grealish | Man City

Completely nullified Reece James who went off injured in the 29th minute of the game? strange take.

Yeah I didn't realize that the first half hour of games don't count. Grealish pressed him really well. Did he not nullify him completely while he was on or am I imagining him not getting a kick of the ball and barely getting forward?

Don't worry your golden child is still amazing just got easily dealt with by grealish that particular day.

As good as the City fan who said Grealish is far superior to Bernardo Silva (who's hands down the best City player this season).

So your are saying he didn't? Did you watch the game or us this more anti city stone throwing from your glass House

So why doesn't Pep fancy him? Think he'd be starting every match given his fee?

Combination of too slow to release the ball, not as effective as their other wide players and doesn't press as well?

He'll be a bench player mainly for the rest of the season by the look of it, as long as those in front of him stay fit.

He's started every match bar one or two this season. More nonsense ..

Why would I do that. He literally played 1/3rd of the game and hadn't a kick
Not only have you made yourself look extremely foolish, you are refusing to back down and hold your hands up for your stupid comment.

It’s either respectable or idiotic, I’ll let you decide.

Jack Grealish has been a dreadful signing so far. He has done absolutely nothing of note.

He is still a great player though but he’s very dislikable and has more interest on falling to the ground and winning free kicks that being fully committed to beat an opponent. He’s a weirdo and he’s annoying.

Some days I wear new socks and they’re the fluffy but warm socks you wear in the winter. They’re really comfortable. They have the annoying black fluff that sticks to your toes and feet when you remove them and makes a mess of your carpet. It can be infuriating.

That black shit is less annoying than Jack Grealish.

Technically, he didn't say that Grealish nullified James for 90mins, he just said that he did for however long a period he was on the pitch. It's not like James played less than 10mins either, in the 29mins he was on the pitch, it's true that Grealish clearly had the upper hand.

Stats suggests otherwise, and Pep obviously doesn't agree with you. Offcourse he should be doing better, but to say he's been a completely dreadful signing so far is simply false and i'm not even a big fan of his.

It’s never easy joining a Guardiola side, a lot of their signings have taken a season before acclimatising and then hitting their stride. Guardiola himself is fully aware of this and I don’t think he’ll be panicking.

Having said that I don’t think he’s even been bad, he’s playing fairly well if not dazzling. Heck of a lot of money but he’ll be a good signing for them.

Jack is doing just fine for us, he'll be superb next season like many pep signings in their second year. He'll move inside eventually and that is where his best football will be played.

15 apps 2 goals 3 assists. He is being let off but I did think the hype was far too much and the desperation for us to sign him. 100mill again is insane and many of us were unsure what he would add. it felt a sideways move. He will get better and needs to get used to not having a high usage rate. I don't see him as a transformative player to be honest

Maybe he was never meant to be a transformative player, more like a complementary one. He was 100m but then again it is not much different than signing 3 squad players each for 35m. Sometimes maybe that one player who fits is the best available option even if his prize doesn't match with this theoretical market value. And obviously it didn't in this case, no one is disputing that, which then again doesn't mean he won't become an important figure. And well, he had what, 2 or 3 shit matches, more good, and a few very good ones. (Became obviously a shit signing since injured but that is how it is this day and age.)

There are a lot of players who would cost much less that could have these kind of numbers. He will get better though in this system.

This is why I don't want us signing Rice. They're good players, but the prices for English players, and players in general, are just bonkers. It's not worth it.

Players often take a year to get accustomed to Pep’s way of playing. Bernardo, Gundogan, Cancelo, Mahrez - All had pretty limited opportunities in their first year before becoming key players.

Anyone writing off Grealish is a fool.

I feel his biggest strength is his ability to hold the ball up. He’d have been an absolute asset as an out-ball for Oles counter attacking game when we came up against better teams.

But, given how much time City spend in the opposition’s half anyway, I feel like one of his better attributes is unnecessary there. He’s a very expensive chocolate teapot.

Anyone writing him off already is quick to forget how long it took for players like Bernardo, Rodri and Cancelo to settle into Pep's system (all of whom have probably been our 3 best performers so far this season). He's actually had a much stronger start than most players do for us; Dias and Jesus are the only signings I can think of who hit the ground running under Pep.

Like @KingCavani said above, you'd be foolish to think this is his ceiling in a City shirt.

English market is incredible price wise. anyone who is deemed very good is 100mill standard. They said no to £130million for Kane.

they are so well stocked in those positions that even when he comes good I feel it will be a sideways step.

I think it's just that he's gone to a polar opposite setup.

He was the best kid on the playground at Villa, now he's one of many good forwards so that requires some mental adjustment.

Villa played every ball to him, at City he has to get what he's given.

At Villa he'd pick the ball up in some space or with one man to beat, as the opposition fancied it, against City they're camping in people's half.

At City he'll have to work a lot harder and maybe his fitness is being tested, at Villa he could get away with whatever because he was their maverick.

He could still be really good next year or as this season develops. It's foolish to get too carried away and make grand observations about how he's overrated now. I did think it was strange from City as I didn't think he was a natural target for their squad, but that doesn't mean he won't be good.

Why is that? What about the cost of Coutinho or ousammane Dembele?

Why is that okay to waste money on and not English players?

What I find weird is why is Pep playing Grealish as a LW for City?

Wasn't the inverted wingers in Pep's games mostly goalscorers or forwards like Pedro, David Villa, Robben and Ribery, Sterling and Sane?

Grealish was never a wonderful goalscorer or even a tap in merchant - he seems wasted out wide as a LW making him take people on in the same angle in the same way especially when the whole opposition team is parking the bus against the team that always have possesion aswell.

Who are you dropping in the middle of the pitch for him? The competition in the middle is a lot fierce. Bernardo & De Bruyne are much better footballers and Gundogan was there best player last season (along with Dias)

Its strange that City bought him when they were already had Foden and Sterling for that position. Its also strange that Pep didn't prioritise signing an out and out striker instead. Once Pep leaves JG will ask to be sold

Think he's also selling tickets now as well.

At least City are getting their moneys worth.

I mean I'm not doubting that - but it's not really a surprise that he is not doing his best when he is playing in a position in a way that's not his best either?

I was expecting him to go there as the their final replacement for David Silva but he hasn't really gone their with ability to play that role.

He would have played in midfield more if B. Silva left as rumored after falling homesick. Instead B. Silva is having an amazing season so far. Plus, what midfielder for City hasn't played in an unorthodox position apart from Rodri/Fernandinho? It's like a rite of passage. Eventually Grealish will get his chance in midfield.

Crazy enough, I think they'll have an issue with dropping one of B. Silva and Gundogan to fit in Dr Bruyne when he comes back. Those two along with Rodri have been hands down the best midfield in the PL this season.

I mean I agree, I just don't find it funny acting like Grealish has flopped when he is playing in a different position most likely because as you said - B. Silva decided to stay.

If Silva didn't stay I'm pretty sure we would see Grealish in a better position and some better more eye catching form.

Grealish is playing the exact position he was playing with Aston Villa.

He hasn't flopped because we aren't even 4 months into the season.

This is for me because Aston Villa are unlikely to play 2 CAM in the same team with a single CDM like Man City can. He used to drift in to LAM positions, I just had a feeling he would start in that position for City.

He was never a goalscorer and more a creator from wide, who is he going to set up? How is he going to score alot?
