Jack Grealish | Man City

He is a decent player but he has a poor footballing mentality. He constantly plays for a free kick, even when beating the man and could run free, he will hold up and ask for the foul.

An Aston villa fan said last season on here that he was the most technical midfielder to come out of England since scholes. I expect more from such a midfielder than just rolling the ball on the pitch and trying to win fouls. How about some goals and assists?

His playing style is not even good on the eye like Silva, ozil etc.And what’s with the pokemon hairstyle anyway?

So hes a James Harden then James Hardens stats are woeful this year.
This summer was the first time he is coming off a surgery for an injury and he has had to rehab it, he will be fine once he works off the rust.

He likes to take too many touches when the momentum of City's game require at most 2 touches. He is a bad fit but you'd think he'd change his game a little but no

Easily his biggest problem, he's still adapting from at villa where it was "here's the ball, make something happen" vs open teams to being a cog in a machine vs 7/8 man defences.

It'll take time. He's not used of having so little space and a sea of defenders in front of him. It'll take time to adapt and use the ball quicker, and recycle it when nothing is on instead of trying to make something out of nothing.

He has 2 goals and 3 assists so far. He's well on course to finish the season with 20 or so goal contributions despite his "poor" form.

Agree on the hair, it's shocking.

I still don't see how he fits in. You needed to replace Sane to stretch the pitch especially with Cancelo at LB. You're still way too congested in the middle.

You're right, only time will tell if he can fully adapt

Sane hasn't been that guy for City since their first title winning season under Pep. He was getting benched by B Silva and Sterling the following season.

Yes, the amount of pace in City's play has dropped in that time frame. But that's mostly due to teams electing to cede possession and allow City control of the ball outside of their own 3rd. Most teams drop back so deep, that they have defenders on the far side to stymie any quick switches to the opposite wing.

There is only so much you can run into a parked 747. It's no surprise that Sterling has struggled with City's evolution over the years into a more patient probing system. That's why we are struggling under Ole now that teams are denying us space to counter.

The false 9 was a temporary solution that got City a league win and CL appearance last season, but teams for the most part are more hip to avoid being dragged out of place when a Foden or KDB drops deep, which results usually in a semicircle of City players around the box.

A dominant 9 who could pin defenders in the box (while being able to contribute to play generally, so a Lukaku wouldn't be optimal) would potentially create more space. But a reason for City's dominance in overall play is precisely the lack of a target man. So does that leave them better off overall? Also, the focus on a striker detracts from the point that overall, they are really bad at finishing chances. Either way it will be interesting to see how they continue to adapt.

Regarding Grealish's use to City, if you view him as a long term replacement for D. Silva (his ability to playmake in tight spaces at the right pace and moment, or pausa, was so integral to the way City unlocked opponents) then his phasing in makes sense. He needs time to adapt to City's system, but he can't do that in bit part appearances. I imagine that once he is up to speed he'll be moved into midfield. Rodri had a rough initiation being placed into midfield and City suffered for it in the 19-20 season; he's fully up to speed now and very people say they miss Fernandinho now.

The transfer tag will detract from the fact that so far he's done well. If his trajectory looks anything like Rodri's or B. Silva's or Cancelo's... There'll be a lot of egg on face come next season.

We really tend to overrate the people who do transfer dealings. Many posters predicted that City would be better off buying a striker than Grealish.

Doesn't work hard enough off the ball? Another £100m transfer that will end up being pretty much a waste of money!?

All his best attributes are not suited to City. It's almost like they should have resigned Sancho and we had Grealish!!!!

Since when? His defensive stats have been quite good at City.
Completely nullified Reece James against you guys who has been probably the league's outstanding wide defender. His contribution to the press has been good if not great.

His tackling stats dwarf those of Foden per game and are better than every other winger in our squad this season, even notorious hard workers like Jesus.

i swear half the people here comment on players they never watch.

Completely nullified Reece James who went off injured in the 29th minute of the game? strange take.

That's the point Jonathan Wilson made in an article a few days ago. And he may have a point too.

That being said, I don't agree Grealish has looked a disappointment for City so far. It's obvious he'd not make a huge impact immediately, what attacking player does at City? It's a big adjustment. At Villa it was all on him, at City he's just another cog in a machinery of players of comparable calibre to himself.

I swear that people on here comment on matches they didn’t watch…

he's been fine, added nice balance but I can see him moving more into the middle as the season goes on

They're much better with Foden on the left especially paired with Cancelo. They've now got a legitimate inside/outside threat

So why doesn't Pep fancy him? Think he'd be starting every match given his fee?

Combination of too slow to release the ball, not as effective as their other wide players and doesn't press as well?

He'll be a bench player mainly for the rest of the season by the look of it, as long as those in front of him stay fit.

No player at City starts every game. This is Pep we are talking about, he rotates a lot. Still Grealish has played a lot of minutes for them (including at Stamford Bridge and Anfield).

As good as the City fan who said Grealish is far superior to Bernardo Silva (who's hands down the best City player this season).

City fans don’t turn up at the etihad or bother watching their own games it seems.
