Ivan Perisic

The problem this year with all of our forwards besides Zlatan was end product.

Perisic doesn't improve us in that department. Rather we do a deal where Chelsea get Perisic and we take Willian who Conte clearly doesn't fancy all that much.

You know how contradictory that statement is? You thing we lack end product so we have to sign Willian?

Btw, Perisic has 19 goals+assists this season, Hazard has 21 and Mane has 18. Mane played fewer mins but Perisic played fewer mins than Hazard.

Perisic - 11 goals + 8 assists in 2751 mins - 144 mins per goal+assist
Hazard - 16 goals (2 from penalties) + 5 assists in 2985 mins - 142 mins per goal+assist, 157 mins per G+A excluding penalties
Mane - 13 goals + 5 assists in 2242 mins - 124 mins per G+A
Willian - 8 goals + 2 assists in 1552 mins - 155 mins per G+A

Been on squawka to see how his stats compare to our current wingers. All our per 90 minutes.

GOALS
Perisic 0.36
Mata 0.33
Mkhitaryan 0.27
Martial 0.23
Lingard 0.07 (Awful)

He scored the most.

SHOTS
Perisic 3.40
Lingard 2.44
Martial 2.43
Mata 2.17
Mkhitaryan 2.14

But only because he's taken more shots than our players.

SHOT ACCURACY
Mata 66%
Mkhitaryan 62%
Martial 56%
Lingard 52%
Perisic 49%

His shot accuracy has been worse than all our current wingers. Which is shocking considering our finishing.

CHANCES CREATED
Mata 2.45
Perisic 2.00
Lingard 1.91
Mkhitaryan 1.87
Martial 1.39

He has decent chance creation.

PASS COMPLETION
Mata 89%
Lingard 88%
Mkhitaryan 84%
Martial 82%
Perisic 71%

But he loses the ball a lot more than our current options. Mata's creation + possession is fantastic and Lingard/Mkhitaryan are decent. Martial's is poor though.

SUCCESSFUL TAKE-ONS
Martial 2.61
Mkhitaryan 2.00
Perisic 1.34
Lingard 1.32
Mata 0.84

Underwhelming considering his supposed pace. Martial being clearly the best and Mata clearly the worst is not exactly a surprise.

TACKLES WON
Perisic 1.21
Mkhitaryan 1.14
Lingard 0.99
Mata 0.89
Martial 0.87

HEADERS WON
Perisic 1.80
Martial 1.27
Mkhitaryan 0.60
Lingard 0.26
Mata 0.22

INTERCEPTIONS
Mkhitaryan 1.47
Perisic 1.15
Lingard 0.92
Mata 0.67
Martial 0.46

He has excellent defensive stats. 1st in tackles, 1st in headers, 2nd in interceptions. If there is a reason why Mourinho would want him it has to be this. Note that Mkhitaryan (his other winger signing) also has good numbers while Mata (who he sold at Chelsea) does very poorly and Martial (who has regressed under him) is terrible apart from headers.
Did you type all of that out? Top effort, mate. But I feel like it behooves me to tell you about a little thing called 'Print Scr'.

If Mourinho is hellbent on a winger who's decent defensively, I find it hard to believe that he would pass on Felipe Anderson.

Good stuff - basically confirms what you can see from his highlight reels. He has good pace but his end product is nothing to write home about. His crossing often doesn't seem to find his teammates or the highlight reel cuts off right when he crosses the ball. He's good defensively which Mourinho will definitely like, but his end product is probably comparable to Valencia. Wonder if he'll be converted to a left-back.

Feels like we're going to be seeing the 6 at the back a lot more often next season.
It would be suicide for Jose if he goes into next season with the same style that we ended this one and he knows it. Think Perisic could be brought in as a plan B to play on the counter in certain games. We still need improvements on our plan A though which is why this signing makes no sense to me unless he wants to play Perisic at fullback.

That's what I was pondering earlier in the thread. But, then, we've not really gone down that route with Young who we already have on our books.

As many goals+assists as Hazard and Mane.

The price needs to be right on this one. About £25M - £30M is OK. Also, I think if we do get Perisic, it means that Mourinho still rates Martial and both Perisic and Martial will alternate with each other.

Only time i saw him was Euro 16 last year. Very direct and pacy. I welcome any new signings to the club with open arm as long as the manager wants them.

Imagine if you come home early one day to surprise your Mrs and she was in bed with your best friend from high school. You've been through thick and thin with this lad and helped him as his own Mum passed away and then he himself got cheated on. Imagine just standing there not knowing whether to punch his face in or just cry. The girl you were going to marry and she's betrayed you like that. How long has it been going on? Who else knows. What are you going to say to your parents?

If we are making up hypothetical random scenarios, I'd be more furious at my idea.
You paint a vivid picture, you'd be better rid of her though to be honest.

If he can replicate those numbers in the PL then he could turn out to be a good signing. I'm just noting what I saw in his supposed highlight reels that doesn't really showcase his end product.

Also Mane probably played fewer minutes than the other two due to AFCON and injuries.

It will be interesting if he can produce those numbers in PL but at Inter his end product is good enough, at least comparable to other wingers in PL.

I have given mins per G+A in my other post, yes Mane has better record than others.

All of those players were starters other than Willian. Willian hardly played compared to them. Would be fair if you used Willians stats from the previous season where he was used often by Mourinho.

Sure why not. (By the way this was his best season for Chelsea in terms of mins per G+A)

2015-16: 5 goals + 6 assists in 2740 mins - 249 mins per G+A
2014-15: 2 goals + 3 assists in 2412 mins - 482 mins per G+A

He's got my vote of approval. We badly need a new winger and a choice of a seasoned pro racking up decent numbers, whose qualities will help us in keeping our game compact, pleases me.
My biggest qualm concerns the price. Hope it'll go well below £40 million.

Everyone needs to calm down seriously. The only thing not to like about this signing is the price being mentioned but hey, this is football in 2017.

I personally don't think he's here to replace martial but rather to offer an alternative option, especially in games where we need to defend and attack as a team. I'm referring to the games against the top 6. You know, those games where we were forced to play lingard out wide because of his discipline even if it's at the cost of creativity. I feel like perisic solves this.

The signings that will really improve the other 80% of games we need to win i.e. those we expect to dominate, are still to come. So just chillaxe .

Not my impression at all. I think this is more about signing someone who will reduce the defensive demand on Pogba when required, especially when we play a midfield 2.

Jesus Christ, he won't be a LB..

He's 28 years old with little resale value coming from struggling serie A giants of the past, a league which he hasn't exactly set on fire. Saying well below I didn't mean £20 million, more like something between £30-35 million.

Edit:I might have misquoted your post;)

Apparently he scored one and assisted two in Inter's win yesterday against Udinese, clearly in response to the Caf's comments on his potential move to Utd.

I don't think resale value isn't all that. You can make your money back by selling or winning and I think we all prefer the latter ;) and on top of that, we have kids coming through who have good potential.

That's how I felt when Bernardo Silva signed for City.

Perisic with 11 goals 8 assists in the league - redcafe goes HIS END PRODUCT SUCKS OMG HE IS SUCH A SHIT PLAYER I DONT WANT HIM WAAA WAAA WAAAAA

Takes a look at Man Utd squad's stats in PL - Ibra with 17 goals 5 assists, Mata 6 and 3, Martial 4 and 6, Rooney 5 and 5, Rashford 5 and 1, Pogba 5 and 4....

Yeah sure, he won't improve the side at all. :wenger:

Can my mate play in a midfield two?

Unless Mourinho plans to play him in a different role to what we've already seen of this guy, I'm not sure he's what we need. We need a winger but we need someone who's a lot more clinical in front of goal.

He isnt Bernardo Silva so they are butt hurt. A lot of them need to go "support' City with that whiny nonsense.

Also, don't we need to consider that Inter is a weaker team than Chelsea and even Liverpool. If he has been doing OK there then won't it be easier for him to perform well in our team.

You're nothing but a snide troll who offers nothing but insults towards posters who don't kiss the arse of every move the club makes.
