Call it however you want, it's just terrible. But there's no point in singling out Germany for not complying with a warrant that no one in the west will pay attention to

Many western countries said they will comply, even if it is only lip service. While Germany as usual brags for being on the wrong side of history. Like no lessons learned in the past 120 years.

Only countries in the West who said they wouldn't oblige it are the US and Hungary. Germany are firmly planting themselves on the wrong side of history, along with the UK who have been tight lipped about the warrants (but its clear to all where they stand).

Canada, France, Netherlands, Spain amongst others have all publicly claimed they would oblige the warrants. So Germany are being deservedly singled out, especially when you factor in the hypocrisy for how they along with the UK hailed the ICC warrants for Putin.

In addition to the below countries, the top story on the Sky News website at the moment is “Downing Street indicates Netanyahu would be arrested in UK”.

So I’m not sure what you mean. Germany should absolutely be singled out.

Don't worry, they'll be so guilt ridden a few decades from now that they'll be happy to let Hamas do whatever they want because never again.

There is more official reporting, direct and indirect, within Israel as to whether what is happening is actually a genocide being perpetrated by Israel. This is the insanity of the ideological pact of silence by the Western press houses. Israel itself, over the past couple of weeks (some of its most major papers) has actually made the question explicit and then carried items where "genocide" is included and invoked against Israel (we call this implicit).

Meanwhile the only thing the Western press apparatus can do is limply frame the term within such an embedded context that it has no meaning. It's a genuine disgrace. You have to - generally - go through university and be trained in ethics to become a journalist. I don't see any Western journalists at the moment. Very few of them.

It's as if, not to be crude, Hitler's state apparatus was questioning whether or not the "final solution" (holocaust) was actually what it was whilst all other nations didn't dare consider it. I don't like the comparison but it's the easiest one.How can you have a blanket of silence - from the top down - when Israeli people themselves are subject to a press, within Israel, which does, albeit limited enough, question this very thing. Complete Orwellian mentalness.

Dutch court weighs lawsuit against arms sales to Israel
Ten groups of pro-Palestinian activists lodged a complaint on Friday that the Netherlands is violating international law by selling weapons to Israel, a day after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for alleged war crimes.
If The Hague District Court supports the complaint, the Netherlands will be banned from sending weapons or weapons parts to Israel and trading with the occupied territories.

Netanyahu won't be arrested on European soil but what it does mean is that there is zero chance he will set foot in any such country. Even if he were foolhardy enough to try, he'd be told not to enter.

I remember thinking that about Putin, and he’s been to a few places- admittedly not a lot.

He went to Mongolia and that was it, wasn't it?

More significantly he didn't go to South Africa for the BRICS 2023 conference and thus was the only country leader in the group that didn't attend.

Netanyahu's world is a lot smaller today. As is his circle of friends and acquaintances outside the US.

The question is not about his arrest but whether 'normal' countries will continue supplying arms to a government led by an individual suspected of involvement in genocide.

Anyone who thinks Biden is just bowing to political pressure in all this must surely be edified by now. He literally has nothing to lose by simply following his own moral compass and he still chooses to call the arrest warrant a disgrace.

It's always been painfully obvious this was ideological. His voters were just coping. They will never admit it though.

He’s been to about 10 countries since that arrest warrant was issued.

Credit to Lineker for continuing to speak up even with threats to his reputation and career

The Guardian have ranged from the mealy-mouthed to outright denialism, even in their more critical articles they caveat them with defenses of Israel's actions. However a few journalists have spoken out consistently and honestly and Jonathan Liew is one of them.

I wonder if his stance on Israel is the reason why he called it quits on MOTD.

Think I read somewhere that Mongolia was the only one of those countries that was an ICC signatory.

That’s correct. He skipped a trip to South Africa after they said they would have to arrest him if he came there for an economic summit.
