Ismaila Sarr

But in typical Utd style he’s stronger on the left.

I think he's a rare example of a winger who's genuinely two-sided. For Nice he started almost exclusively on the right, for Newcastle vast majority left. Even during matches he's always floated and switched sides - especially for Nice who were less tactically rigid.

Buy him and sell James next year. Keep Sarr as backup when we sign Sancho.

From Sancho to Dembele to Sarr.

And of course Chiesa got snapped up by Juventus! Of course, we're just assuming that Chiesa wouldn't have joined because "Italian players won't leave Italy". Wouldn't fecking hurt to put in a bid, would it?

I'd rather we sign no-one that bloat our squad with more average players that we'll be stuck with for years.

This is the profile of player we should be targeting:

Young talents who are creative and productive 1v1. Sarr is neither.

ASM would be perfect, and might have been obtainable. No way Mike Ashley, of all people, turns down a decent offer in the middle of a financial downturn. Ousmane Dembele would also feature highly on this list - right between Saint-Maximin and Mbappe as a high volume, high creative player - but didn't complete the minimum number of games to be eligible.

We need a 'chaos creator' - as Wenger famously dubbed it - against low block teams to create space and force mistakes.
Wow. Diogo Jota and Christian Pulisic look really good based on this chart. Who is Samuel Chukwueze? Is he with Valencia? Ismaila Sarr, is the Watford badge in the middle, right?

I wonder how reliable this kind of metric is?

I do enjoy seeing bids rejected by championship clubs on deadline day. This transfer window has been one for the history books

he’s quite a bit better than Sarr anyway by the looks of things.

this is just staggering incompetence that we're in for this guy at the end of the window

I reckon Chiesa and probably Tonali turned us down. Chiesa would have been a solid signing and Tonali would have instantly took Matic out of the team. Sigh

I haven't seen much of Chukwueze, other than a few highlight videos when we were linked with him. Think it was just last summer wasn't it? Pulisic is fantastic though, and unfortunately I think Jota will be a good piece of the puzzle for Liverpool.

Apparently the Watford badge is Luis Suarez - not that one :wenger: - from his time at Zaragoza, who again I haven't seen anything of.

I see. Yeah, Pulisic and Jota are looking good, sadly. Thanks for the clarification. Cheers!! Luis Suarez .... hahah

Strong assessment. You seen much of him?

Enough in the PL last season to know he's not good enough, he's not worth £25M on a permanent nevermind a loan, we've made our bed and should lay in it, not waste even more money on players who we'll struggle to shift.

From the Sky Sports ticker:
BREAKING NEWS

Manchester United have made an enquiry to Watford over winger Ismaila Sarr.

United are unlikely to pursue a deal at this stage.

Watford value Sarr at £50m and would prefer a sale – or at least a loan with an obligation.

Premier League clubs have until October 16th to sign players from the EFL, but clubs have to submit their squads for European competition tomorrow.

'Asking for a friend'

The Athletic are saying we're negotiating for him.

The thing with James Cooper is, he'll be relaying with the club want him to say.

So if negotiations hit a deadlock, they can get him to come out and say we're not interested, even if we are but want it on our terms.

Don't we have until October 16 to potentially get this done?

That's the Domestic Window deadline which is longer than the normal deadline.
It will be Sarr or David Brooks on October 16.

Yeah but if we wanted to register him for the CL it would need to be done now.

I’d like him here. Think he’s got potential and at 30-40m, he’d hopefully still leave us room to sign Sancho next summer who can play in multiple positions. Let’s not forget Liverpool wanted him, it’s not like he’s total shite just because he’s now in the championship.
of all of our alternatives, I think he has the most chance of being a good squad player at least, assuming Dembele continues his injury form of course.

Surely the CL thing is not that important (I confess, I don't know much about him). It would mean Greenwood wouldn't have to play every game if we want someone capable there.

Surely we wouldn't be interested in signing this guy IF we still have any belief of getting Sancho next summer

Antonio Valencia II. And I mean that in the nicest terms (that I can), lots of pace and will run at players. Twice as good as James so worth £35 million or more? I hope so... But not convinced yet

True. I think at 25 million it would probably make sense.

I imagine most would take him if selling James meant a balance of 10m or so?
