Ismaila Sarr

I don’t think being unable to register him for CL should be decisive factor in not making a move here. There are 34 league games to go and if we somehow manage to go through in CL, we could still register him for knockout games. Those six group stage games are important but should not dictate whether or not we buy a player.

Didn't we just buy two young wingers who are worse than Sancho? Why are we trying to buy a third?

Feck me, we will have spent close to the Sancho purchase price on these three surely :wenger:

There are actually 4 players that could still be potential targets from the Championship, that said, Sarr is probably my 3rd choice out of them for the right wing.

Buendia>=Brooks>Sarr>Benrahma

I do like Benrahma, but he's a left winger, if the sides were reversed, he would be my first choice.

I don't think we should bother with any of those. Sarr and Brooks are quite promising but we have just signed two young wingers, we should have some faith in them. Buendia - I don't get it. Benrahma - I kind of get it, but I don't see him as top level.

He's a good dribbler and very good at creating chances, mostly fecked up by Norwich strikers, he's also two footed

I know what you mean, this is what makes me laugh about this club......
We will spend weeks haggling over £3m for Telles, complain that Sancho is too expensive, even though Dortmund I firmly believe, would have negotiated instalments, but then we will spunk away £60m quid in the blink of an eye....or we will allocate nearly £30m to a 33 year old striker that we didn't even want until a few days ago, because he was "free"....FFS...!!

They are investments, there's no guarantee that Sancho would produce the same numbers at United as he does for Dortmund, the majority of players Dortmund sell that moved abroad end up as failures but manage to sell for a massive premium. This whole argument of spending 80 million on 4 players when it could have been spent on Sancho is nonsense

Not really considering, as you already confirmed, these youngsters are investments and by absolutely no means guaranteed to succeed here.

Sancho, for the money, was the closest thing to a guaranteed world class player as you will get. Quote me on that when we miss out on him next summer and absolutely he tears it up at another PL club.

But they are investments that are expected to improve, increase in price and become assets.

Your statement around Sancho was the exact same stuff being said around Pogba. I wanted Sancho as well, but 120m is ridiculous.
I can't say I was excited around Pogba but would want him given the chance, but again, overpriced, hes should of been closer to 50m than 100m

We were 100% right to walk away from Sancho given the fees involved. The only problem however is that we appeared (I'm only going by various media reports by the way so may well be inaccurate) to waste a lot if time right up to close of business which seems to have just been a waste.

I think the intention was trying to sign him until the last week and then the strategy changed when other clubs started sniffing around Pellistri and Traore and that accelerated the process, I don't believe we intended to sign them this window, Traore especially as we didn't get a work permit in time.

I wouldn't mind if we got Sarr along with the two RW prospects. Might do all three of them some good. Maybe Mata can teach them something about movement in between defences.

We spent a whole lot of time keeping media interest at maximum level, in order to raise non-footballing revenues. Clever move? It comes with a taste of disappointment in many a fans mouth. I kept checking for updates incessantly the last few weeks. Silly me, I think Kermit is my middle name...

So, if he comes I won't be sarry!

Yeah if we are intending to send the new signing to the youth team then should still be looking for an established RW like this guy. We won't have Diallo until January so should be looking for someone to cover Mason.

There has to be something wrong with Buendia, I'm shocked nobody bought him as he was statistically a very good player for Norwich - there must be something we're missing that the top clubs don't.

Yeah same with Benrahma but still think Villa may make move for him to reunite with his old teammate Watkins.

Honestly would be happy with Sarr for £35m or less. That way, we can still sign a Sancho level superstar if it’s not working out and he’ll be a much improved back up. Had a good season at Watford and still young. He’s a player who’s value will only rise IMO

I’d quite like to see us get Max Aarons from Norwich too - he’d be a great offensive competition for AWB

Yeah I would take either of those but sadly don't see us doing any more business at all this summer

Don't know why we're so desperate. He's not that good.

Maybe he could prove us all wrong, like I said would take any of him, Buendia or Benrahma. Yes they aren't eligible for Champions League group phase but still worth it

Can we spend 75 million on three wide players this summer and then 100 plus on Sancho next summer? We've spent on two hopeful talents, we don't need to waste money on players who aren't top class. Sarr looks like he doesn't have that technical excellence we need.

Why are they worth it? How many decent players do we need? We already have James, Lingard, Mata etc making up the numbers. Now two kids who need develop. Then Greenwood. What we really need is a proper RW who we can rely on like Liverpool have Salah and Mane. Sarr looks miles behind them in terms of technique from what I've seen. More squad player than genuine star.

Will we actually see the other two much this season though,do you feel the same about Buendia & Benrahma even though seems to be no interest in either

Personally think we won't see those two kids unless Lingard/Mata are injured or can get them a loan in Portugal or championship.

Personally I think Sancho is gone and we and the club should look past him now and move on. I don’t think it was a viable deal and we waited hoping to get the price down. Something like this

Sancho - first choice, remained first choice and we hoped that we could get the deal done but ultimately the fees were too much

Dembele- second choice. Sounded him out, didn’t want to come at first but when Barca agreed Depay, they put some pressure on so he he was more willing. Ultimately it was a bad deal for us so we pulled out of that.

Sarr. Third choice and we knew that we could let the other two go to the wire because we had until the 16th. Personally I think we will sign him. Pellestri and Traore are youth snd we shouldn’t expect much from either (although I think Traore will surprise us sooner than expected).

I sure hope we see a bit of them as James is average. Don't know much about those two but I feel this way about our right wing - we need genuine quality. The right side of our attack has been painful to watch for nearly a decade and we haven't had real quality there since Nani and Ronaldo.

Given we didn't have enough money to buy Sancho I'd prefer we save up our cash for a really top class right winger than chuck at random players.

Your third choice can't be half the players the first two are. It's like Madrid failing to get Hazard and then just picking any serviceable LW as an alternative. Or chasing Kane and settling on Ings You can't go from Sancho to Sarr imo. It would be a crazy loss of ambition.

I'm obviously exaggerating a tad and it would be great (if we signed him) if he proved to be this world class talent but doesn't look it from what I've seen

Don't think we could switch our third choice target to Buendia/Benrahma then

So he would miss 6 CL games right? Chances are Greenwood starts all them anyway.

We could register him for the knockout rounds couldn't we?
We could, and tbf he is europa league level so it will be good to have him for those knockout games.

People complain about the mediocrity of our squad yet welcome the cycle repeating itself.

How many more times?
