ISIS in Iraq and Syria

Edrogan is a slimy little scrote. Happy to empower ISIS if it compromises Kurdish efforts to fight them.

These hostages being released by ISIS sums it all up really.

This anti IS coalition is such bullshit. There are half a million in Kobane who are at risk.

and turkey is allies to.....? ;)

Who even knows anymore

This anti IS coalition is such bullshit. There are half a million in Kobane who are at risk.

And you're surprised? The ironic thing is ISIS wouldn't been as prominent today had it not been for key members of the so-called 'anti-IS' coalition. The fact they didn't invite Iran into this coalition gives them away.

Also, in before Raoul's signature green smiley response and accusations of sectarianism.

So what are the reasons for no US air strikes around Kobane?

Where are ISIS supposed to go after they're routed from Iraq? The town of Raqqa is nearly empty of ISIS, the majority of the fighters are in the Kobane countryside. It's estimated that one third (!) of their fighters are taking part in the attack on Kobane. They're easy pickings for the F16s and whatever else the West has to offer.

Btw, PKK are officially in Kobane and Peshmerga have been deployed into Rojava, but the route to Kobane is not clear, too many ISIS towns to fight through. Kobane is likely to fall soon, after two years of resistance and no help from the rest of the world.

Ok so since last night, there has been a huge push on the Eastern front. YPG and PKK have managed to recapture villages on this front. ISIS are retreating towards the Tel Abyad/Slouk countryside. However, from the Kurdish canton bordering Iraq, YPG and Peshmerga forces have successfully pushed their way towards Tel Abyad. What that means is that ISIS are being pincered between the two sides whilst retreating from the East of Kobane. If Peshmerga manage to get into the town of Tel Abyad and further, then the Kobane canton could finally be linked and supplies can easily be directed.

The Western side of Kobane remains unclear but FSA seem to be slowing down the ISIS advance.

Red circle = Tel Abyad

That was the most up to date pic of Kobane I could fine and I drew on the movement of Kurdish forces to show what exactly is happening. Obviously it's clear that connecting those two cantons (the big yellow bits) will prove to be vital in getting more Peshmerga/YPG into Kobane.

Btw, air strikes were conducted in South Kobane yesterday. Unclear whether it is from Assad or Western forces.

There's something genuinely distressing about seeing Suli and Rel being so serious in this thread.

I don't mean this in a derogatory way, at all. You're both making very useful contributions. It is just a sober reminder of how alarming the issue is.

I feel we're currently in a state of paralysis. The US won't dare get too involved without UK support and we're too busy dealing with internal matters. Meanwhile, the status quo continues, for the most part.

100k is an exaggeration. It is 7-10K.

In the latest message they call Obama a sheikh, a mule to the jews and they also call kerry an uncircumcised old geezer

1000 Kurdish youth stormed a closed border gate from the Turkish side and crossed into Kobane. This was after the call to arms request by the PKK and YPG.

3000 refugees also returned earlier after hearing the news that the offensive in the East has been repelled.

One video showing them crossing:

SCENES

Just saw a disturbing video in which members of the ISIS are driving round shooting at random people in cars, once they managed to stop the car they then go over to make sure they were dead by putting a few more bullets in them.
They have to be brainwashed.

Oh yeah, thats in salil al sawarim, they're shia government officials and they use that fact to kill them.

There's a video from Amerli where headless corpses of ISIS fighters are tied to the back of a car and driven around. The car is draped in Shia militia flags and you can hear Kurdish language from one guy in the background insulting the dead body, hence why I assume it's Amerli.

Shia militias probably beheaded the guy then tied the corpse to the car, assuming this as they beheaded two guys before.

I laughed out loud when I read the speech. I must say, they're pretty good at rhetoric
The guy who said that speech used to spend all his time writing poetry when he was in jail, thats how he comes out with some of this stuff.

Since yesterdays there has been suicide bombings in yemen, kidnappings in Algeria, stabbing in spain by a morrocan apparantly and all of this is thought to be the result of Adnanis speech. In return some Muslim women have been attacked. It will only get worse.

Allied air campaign underway in Syria.

Just saw the news.

I'm actually concerned we're going to start seeing ISIS activity in North America given that we apparently exported several fighters. I'm sure some are still sitting in either the Canada or the USA...

Raqqa province has been the main area for attacks but Tal Abyad has also been bombed. Hopefully that helps the YPG.

When YPG went for Tel Abyad, they captured the town of Mabroukah. This opens up the road to Raqqa from the East. YPG still advancing towards Tel Abyad.

lol now Bahrain are getting involved in the strikes. Guess they can re-direct those tanks they used to kill innocent democratic protestors.

Also, bombings aren't going to be effective in the long run if they're not followed up by ground troops sweeping in after. Assad should send his troops in after the bombings to reclaim Raqqa for the lulz.

And the Iranians can add those they used to kill protesters in Khuzestan. It's a fecking huge blood festival.

You mean coalition forces are not going to get in and arrest the bad apples in Raqqa? The "collateral damage" involved in air bombardment and cruise missile strikes would be disproportionate considering only 3 Westerners have been killed so far.

Cameron clearly has more sense than the US or the Gulf Arab despots.

Imagine that, working alongside the biggest nation in the region which has been at the forefront in fighting ISIS, outrageous.

That’s my biggest fear, racial tension seems to be growing at an alarming rate. I’ve noticed on my Facebook page that people who I have known for years and years and who wouldn’t have a racist bone in their body are starting to show hatred towards Muslims. In fact I've got into some pretty heated debates about it and have been shown videos and all sorts of shit to back up their argument.

I liken it to people who say that every Irish person is either in or supports the IRA, only it seems to be a lot lot worse.

seems perfectly logical and a completely rational move - obviously Israel will kick up a fuss though and call it unacceptable

Israel are probably the nation to kick up the least fuss about it. You're never going to hear the end of it though from the Gulf Arab states and Nobama.
