ISIS in Iraq and Syria

Like them or hate them you can't dismiss them from the process. They're both an ally of Syria and Russia and have plenty of military assets on the ground.

In between antihenry's and Raoul's blustering for each side, I think realistically whatever the US might think of doing, damage to Russian assets is out of the question and Iran avoided if possible. I wouldn't think any action would be coordinated with either of the two, but agree that they limit the scope of the viable/acceptable.

Disagree that attacking Assad and his govt puts you at a state of war with either Russia or Iran, because just like the French wondered if the US would actually "trade" LA or NY for Paris in a hypothetical Cold War nuclear exchange, think here that neither would necessarily look to respond overtly to a US action. Basically think there's a large array of possibilities, and you have to climb pretty far up the range to find acts aggressive and damaging enough that the Russians or Iranians would feel compelled to react overtly.

Other than that... what a horrible mess.

I do remember but I never saw a Muslim celebrating any attack in Russia and I will never forget after 9/11 people celebrating in various countries.

When I wonder "what will Trump make of this?", I'll come and see if you've posted anything about it.

You guys need to take a chill pill...Trump doesn't know what the F he is talking about...

Don't believe me...let him tell you

Why would Assad suddenly do this. He was winning.

I guess Assad just can't help himself. Curiously enough, instead of using it on the armed jihadists he's at war with, he somehow decided to poison the civilians. But who cares what goes on in the mind of yet another Middle Eastern tyrant, it's time to shock-and-awe him and damn the consequences.

I remain baffled that he always scores well when polls ask about intelligence.

After a few months we'll come to know in the corner of the newspaper that it was infact fsa/isis who used the chemical weapons.

You have to look past your media perceived narrative. Only a tiny amount of Muslims will harm on Americans, mainly those you've directly or indirectly been involved in f--King. Surely you don't buy that bullshit about them hating your freedom or your McDonald's. No most of the ones who hate you do so because America killed thier families and destroyed thier homes. At least admit your sins.

The rest of us see you all for what you are. For anyone with resources America and Russia are the modern colonialist, interested only in getting access to those resources by hook or by crook.

I'm Pakistani originally, in my parents country America has backed dictator after dictator, used the country to funnel herion and weapons, bred terrorists, bombed the same terrorists and thousands of civilians, turned a blind eye to the rampant corruption of our leaders and given them loans that generations will pay. You even threatened to wipe us out if we didn't join your war. You also sanctioned us a while back. Does it really surprise you Pakistani people might not think highly of America?

Also anyone celebrating the death of others is just sick.

#SyriaHoax trending on Twitter I see.

Every indication is the US is preparing air strikes at the moment. Could happen sooner rather than later.
Literally just saw that 50 Tomahawks have hit Syria, kinell.

So apparently there is a Trotskyist faction fighting alongside the FSA in northern Syria, who knew?

Finally a rebel group you can get behind @Kaos? :D

Worth giving this a listen -

Apparently there's also Christian Nazis, Stalinists and the odd cannibal.

I don't think the SDF/YPG are with FSA, infact they have an informal understanding with Assad since their main fight is with Turkey and ISIS.

Edit: so I'm not sure it's the same people.

Oh right thanks.

Yeah I didn't think they were the same, just that post reminded me of the podcast(Really I'll take any excuse to post a Chapo podcast)

Yeah the SDF and a particular FSA coalition backed by Turkey have been battling for months over formerly ISIS-held territory in the north.

Tom Friedman has always been an awful, awful journalist and writer, but it seems now he's actually losing the plot entirely:

One of my favourite articles:
https://www.jacobinmag.com/2016/11/thomas-friedman-book-new-york-times-columnist/

The headline itself sets the tone brilliantly
Darwin’s Mistake
How, in an age in which “the fast eat the slow,” has Thomas Friedman not been gobbled up?
...

Granted, Thank You for Being Late is more civilized in tone than many of Friedman’s previous deployments to the Orientalist battlefront — highlights of which have included:

  1. Instructing the nation of Iraq to “Suck. On. This,”
  2. putting Afghan “civilians” in quotation marks,
  3. declaring Afghanistan a “special needs baby,”
  4. proclaiming it “logical” that Israel opted in 2006 to flatten portions of Lebanon and civilians therein, and
  5. prescribing the same “logical” treatment for the Gaza Strip in 2009.

CIA report on the Syrian Brotherhood, just before the Hama massacre of 1982:

Increasing talk the Russians already have an Assad replacement in mind for when he goes, which I'm assuming will be soon.

Do you follow Sam Heller (@AbuJamajem) on twitter? He is frequently taking the piss out of Tom&other idiots. His commentary is usually very good.

Yeah, Karl Sharro (Karl reMarks) is good as well.

Text and video of full interview with Assad... http://sana.sy/en/?p=104255

Edit: He makes an interesting claim - that the terrorists announced the attack was going to happen ahead of time on social media. Has this been discussed?
