ISIS in Iraq and Syria

Well considering on one side you have one superpower which had starved half a million Iraqis to death, invaded the country - twice, the second time utterly devastating it and essentially responsible for making it a terrorist-infested cesspit while continue to fund some of these same terrorist groups. Than on the other hand you have an opposing superpower that actually looks like its trying to fight all Islamic extremists in the region.

With that considered, its not a fecking difficult choice.

I doubt either side is too keen on fighting ISIS atm. What you do have there is one superpower which has back-stabbed all its regional allies during the current administration. Easy choice to make really.

100x this. Obama has zero credibility in the ME these days.

You've got the Turks and Saudis as your regional BFFs now though.

The Turks? Are you out of your mind? Saudis are back in bed with Hamas, so nothing more than a potential helping hand on the way to Iran's nuclear installations if the day comes.

A-Sisi is the closest we have to an ally in the ME.

Two years are plenty of time in US politics, isn't it? I mean, it wasn't that long ago when you had a GWB poster in your bedroom.

What you need is a good old fashioned messianic fanatic who thinks protecting Israel is tied to the end of days - someone like Huckabee or Cruz would do nicely.

Thankfully, the support for Israel unites the American people. I trust the next president, even if it's Hillary, to learn from the mistakes of the Noble peace prize winner.

You better start praying now that its not Bernie Sanders. Imagine the spectacle of an ethnic Jew President of the United States siding with the Palestinians. :)

We have enough Jews here siding with the Arabs. Nothing would shock me anymore, although reality is stronger than your $1-a-piece politicians. The ME is changing rapidly, new alliances form, countries dissolve and new ideas are brought to the table. Even you were mentioning ethnic cleansing earlier in the thread as a potential outcome for an ethnic/religious conflict here. See? Even the most liberal (albeit recent Bush fanboy) could think outside the box.

Your most promising, charismatic, peace-seeking president ever was spat out as an irrelevance so I doubt a Jewish Robin Hood would make any difference. Anyway, this is getting a bit off topic.

Sikhs set up 'langar' in IS territory

CHANDIGARH: Large-hearted Sikhs have taken their traditional community kitchen to one of the most dangerous places on earth today - Syria. Giving a twist to the concept of langar, a group of Punjabi NRIs has collaborated with locals to provide fresh bread to nearly 14,000 refugees daily in the strife-torn region for several months now.

Langar Aid, an extension of UK-based NGO Khalsa Aid, is located in the Pesh Harbour area, about 35km from the Kurdish city of Duhok and 10km from the Syrian border. Almost 70% of the members of Langar Aid are with Punjabi roots, besides some European volunteers as well.

Instead of the classic kitchen, Langar Aid set up a bakery because IS fighters were destroying any food coming in for the Yazidis. While Khalsa Aid provided the machinery and Joint Help for Kurdistan gave a new building to house the bakery , the local government in Duhok is providing free power.

UK-based Indy Hothi, a 27-year-old economist-cum volunteer of Indian origin said, "We set up a bakery at a refugee camp for Yazidi people to provide a self-sustaining solution. Support in the form of food for distressed people has been there for over a year now and organizations from Sweden are helping run the bakeries. Help is also pouring in from Serbia and Greece."

"Refugees often mistake us for IS because of our appearance," said Ravi Singh, CEO of Khalsa Aid, but that not deterred this unique force. "I was there about two months back and it was a very overwhelming experience. It was poignant to meet a family that had fled from their homes with their 10-monthold child and they were pleasantly surprised to find aid in the middle of nowhere. Then there was an elderly lady who still wanted to return to her village she had built after years of hard work. The situation will get more challenging as winter sets in."

On the other side of Syria, on the Lebanon-Syrian border, the organization is helping refugees by running a school for 5,000 local children. "The idea is to take the langar outside the walls of the gurdwara and share food with people who need it the most," added Hothi.

About time he leaves. The biggest gripe I have against him is an will always be how he keeps on failing on foreign policy in his second term. On the opposite end of the spectrum, it seems a very long time ago that Bill Clinton showed who was the undisputed big boss both at home and abroad during his second term.

In the meantime it appears US supported Saudi Coalition has bombed another wedding party. It seems they hate seeing people being happy.

On Wednesday, the rights group Amnesty International said the Saudi-led coalition is guilty of war crimes and urged countries to stop supplying arms to the coalition.

"Damning evidence of war crimes by the Saudi Arabia-led coalition, which is armed by states including the U.S.A., highlights the urgent need for independent, effective investigation of violations and for the suspension of transfers of certain arms," Amnesty said.

The fighting and Saudi-led airstrikes on the Houthis have killed about 5,000 people and created a humanitarian disaster. Many Yemenis are in desperate need of food and medicine, and the country is said to be in a near state of famine.

Erdogan has been a strong opponent of Israel, especially since that ship incident.

Israel won't ever side with S.Arabia. They might have some similar short term goals (like neutralizing, destroying, nuking Iran etc), but S.Arabia is the state of Wahhabis and the biggest sponsor of terrorism.

??? This can't be for real surely? I mean, this is something that'd happen in a Leslie Nielsen flick.

This entire axis of dictators between Putin, Assad, and Khamenei reminds me a bit of the opening scene from the Naken Gun.

The entire reason they're using cruise missiles is to show them off. It is hilarious if they've managed to bomb the wrong country with them. There's little need for them if you have air superiority since they're more expensive than air-to-ground missiles or dumb bombs.

Yep, it was undoubtedly a farcical attempt at projecting that they are on par with the US in terms of launching remotely from ships. Still a ways to go Vlad. :)
