He could go for a 3 man defense again, with Isco and Ozil in Kagawa-roles, drifting freely in front of Khedira and Alonso to dominate the middle.

-------Ramos------Varane------CB-----
Ozil-----Alonso--------Khedira------Isco
-------------------------------------------
Di Maria-------Benzema--------Ronaldo

Nothing there to defend the wings, not even a wing back or remotely defensive winger. That's just horrible.

Facebook-quality line-up there, I'm afraid. Absolutely no provision to defend against wingers, and too many players crowding the 'wide playmaker' positions.

Drop either Ozil or Di Maria, revert to a back four, and give Isco a free creative role, going wide or coming into the #10 position as he sees fit.

Terrible idea. They'll get raped if they'll play with this formation.

It is good that he's not going to City. Presumably this will speed up Kaka's departure.

I guess Real will line up with two in the middle - Alonso and Khedira or Modric, then Isco, Di Maria, and Ozil, then Ronaldo, with Benzema as backup. Not bad.

More likely R.Madrid will get Suarez, have two of Alonso/Khedira/Modric, C.Ronaldo Isco, Ozil & Suarez up top. Last I heard they might look to offload Di Maria or could keep him as another option. Don't think they are in for Bale either.

I'll restrain myself from laughing at City's expense until we've officialy signed Thiago, however I've already got a smile on my face :D thank goodness he's not going to terrorize the PL for the next 5 years (in City's colours at that).

And on a side-note...anybody else thinking Perez has completely lost his shit? I mean seriously, who haven't Real been linked with this summer...Bale, Thiago, Cavani, Aguero, Suarez, Isco, Neymar, now Rooney...and almost all of them have been commented on by Perez....on top of all the Ronaldo drama as well...this is just bonkers.

If I recall, doesn't Ancelotti favour using wing-backs for width? At least, that's what he did at Milan and then at Chelsea, I believe.

Depends he adapts depending on the players he has and what he thinks is best.

He used the diamond at Milan but Chelsea didn't operate the same way and I'm sure he'll choose his formation based on his players as opposed to shoehorning people into roles they aren't suited to. It must be funny going to a club that are buying the players for you before you have even gotten the job.

I think this probably spells the end of them taking Bale, unless they sell 2 players like Di Maria and Modric

He did try to enforce a diamond multiple times at Chelsea, the results didnt follow so he kept going back to their successful formations. PSG didnt use it though

I remember the early attempt at the diamond with Lampard on the right but didn't he abandon it pretty quickly? Looking at the players Real have I imagine he'll go for a 4-2-3-1, is that what he used at PSG?

Isco (Real Madrid): "Will I change my dog's name dog from Messi to Cristiano now I've joined Madrid? No, because he wouldn't listen anymore"

Messi (the dog) is not impressed.
