Really, is this the case?

I haven't seen anything to say that is the case, please could you point myself in the direction where it has been said that the proposed Super League for the men's teams, would not have any effect on the respective women's teams of those clubs involved??

I won't be able to find anything because it doesn't need to be said. If our mens team get relegated, the women's team don't get relegated.

It's a super league for the men's game. It's got nothing to do with the women's game

If our men's team get relegated, do you think that the financial hit that would have kn ghe club as a whole, that it wouldn't impact the women's team??

Erm, if Barca get banned then it is very likely the Women's team get banned as well, along with the youth teams. The decision will be against the entity (Barcelona) and not just a subsection of Barcelona I.e. Barcelona Men's team.
 
Pl over Europe. Let's be honest, you can't beat domestic rivalries. Playing a ESL just doesn't have the same appeal. Screw Real, Barca et al.
 
What about the women's team? I'm not hearing their name in any of this

This makes sense sadly.
The women's team would be very harshly punished just because the men's hierarchy wanted to play in a Super League.
 
Isn't the ESL supposed to replace UCL, and not the Leagues?

From what I recall, the Leagues and ESL were going to co-exist. And each ESL season would've been like 15-20 games, not 38.

Yet half the replies seem to be about the local rivalries and Leagues going away, for some weird reason.
 
Can't really get on board with the outrage when my team are already playing in two super leagues in all but name.

It did want to replace the CL. However, that isn't all. Firstly it wanted to eradicate qualification for it and thus have fixed membership. This would've impacted the leagues has it would've eradicated the ability for someone from outside it to qualify and/or strictly disadvantaged them from doing so.

Second, once it was up and running, there was no real knowledge of what would happen next. After x amount of years' they could've easily have switched games to the weekend and/or increased the number of games.

Third by establishing this, it would've driven revenues significantly towards a few clubs at a even larger rate than currently, thus reducing the competitiveness of the teams outside of it.

The ESL at it's core was about cementing the current hierarchy of football forever, whilst clipping the wings of the PL.

All the noise we're getting currently is

a) A damage limitation exercise
b ) A means to try and persuade clubs that weren't included that they'll now have a chance to join and that this is needed to handicap the PL as it's revenues are too large.

However, it isn't going to work. Everyone has seen through this and the ECJ is going to come down with a verdict in UEFA's favour.

Real, Barca and Juve are just doing this in the hope they can establish something without the PL clubs in the medium to long term and avoid a out right ban from European competitions in the short term.

Fixed membership was a crazy idea, and it's off the table, but same misinformed replies are rampant re ESL replacing the Leagues, while it was always going to be a midweek tournament, in place of UCL.

It’s irrelevant what they say. They don’t even know what it’s supposed to be at this point judging It’s a fluid idea right now but no matter how you dress it up the public is going to hate it. People don’t like change and they hate change more than they hate UEFA and FIFA.

Not only that but many people can see the 2of the 3 main clubs pushing for this are suffering from financial difficulties and see it as an easy way to generate more money and people really have a problem with the dishonesty about it all.

The verdict is actually quite uncertain, but regardless of the outcome, PL clubs will be key and I don't see any one them joining considering the sh*tstorm they took during the first attempt.

Except it's going to overpack an already very busy schedule since the CL is 6 to 13 games long and the ESL is supposed to be 18 to 23/24 games, good luck fitting that especially since leagues in most countries are opposed to this project.
 
Its mostly the La Liga and Italian giants as they know La Liga and Serie A is getting dwarfed by the Premier League. AC Milan have never spent more than 50m euro's on a transfer. Inter Milan have only done it once. Its got to the stage where midtable premier league clubs can compete financially with the Serie A elite.

A ESL needs the big 6 of the PL to actually have credibility of a European super league. Without it its dead in the water.

Any PL club that signs up for this shit show should get automatically relegated to league 2

This has been said before, probably by myself here, but it's rich how the Italians and Spanish clubs are now actively throwing a strop now that English clubs are outspending them, after their financial dominance in the 80s and 90s. In 1998/1999, Real Betis spent more on a single player than most Premier League clubs did in total. And how much money in total was spent on Christian Vieri throughout his career?
 
With Juventus in court again and United and Liverpool being sold, surely this is dead in the water now? Only the Spanish two are still around to push for this?
 
Yes it wouldn't be a super league, more like a merger of La Liga and Serie A...

That being said I think things will get pretty ugly with regards to football club finances in the next few years so wouldn't be surprised to see other ideas floated along with financial controls, to try and make more money.
 
There is going to be an EU pronunciation next week, sort of Bosman-like sentence (or its opposite) for the viability of private leagues against UEFA monopoly, but rumors are it will be deferred again not to splash Qatar’s WC final.

The revised and official balance sheets submitted to the market financial regulator (apart of media tapes/wires and behind-the-doors sh*t for the general public’s curiosity), dwelve around 10-12 millions up to 40-45 millions deferred accounting in the three Covid years, out of 500 millions grandtotal per year, something usually resolved through a fine without even going to court… but again, this is a geofootball war with UEFA/Qataris dealing the cards nowadays.

Whatever punishment you get is irrelevant at this point. Agnelli was the one pushing hard on the super league. So it’s not unreasonable to suggest that Juventus now seek alternative ideas for income than the super league.

With Liverpool and United potentially having new ownership and Chelsea under new ownership who is there left besides Madrid and Barcelona. Arsenal and Spurs only joined because of the FOMO. City and Chelsea pulled out quickly so I don’t see City going back in. That’s the PL out and with all due respect to Serie A, it doesn’t pull the numbers of the PL.

The ultimate front for the next decade is a brexited UK with its EPL financial strength vs the EU block with a common SuperLeague, aka two private leagues. With Agnelli ousted for good and the UEFA / PSG in the pocket of Qataris, it will not happen next year… even in the case next week pronunciation strips UEFA monopoly and liberalises football entrepreneurship.

As for Juventus, it’s just a toy for Elkann and he would happily sell to a fund and get rid of nuisance, unwanted attention and so on… he may even sell and then re-open a football club in the Netherlands, where the Exor financial conglomerate is now based and floating…. Jeugd FC from Amsterdam, for the joy of the many Dutch fans hating Juventus with all their heart. :lol:

This, even of the superleague is allowed, it was already very weak before Juventus got into legal troubles but now it's very very unlikely to happen. Without PL clubs on board, it's dead in the water.

The mover would be Real Madrid / Florentino… Agnelli was just a fundamentally young, pretentious pawn, with Juventus being half Madrid’s size and without the full weight of Exor behind him. In spite of that, some sort of consolidation in the EU is in the cards or football in the block will slowly be drained of resources and stars.
 
To me this has always come down to the question: are general football fans nostalgic enough about teams like Madrid and Barca to risk destroying the thriving leagues they love to save them from the failure swamp that is La Liga?

The answer to that question to date has been “No”.

Fa from La Liga and Serie A can point fingers at the types of owners and massive investment all they want to and cry “imbalance”.

But the fact is you can go back decades looking at articles on worldwide average viewership and PL games were pulling more than all the other leagues combined per match day.

When Forbes or some other entity would do comparisons they would list like twenty massive factors that made the PL dominant and then counter with “but La Liga has the massive star power that comes with Real and Barcelona”

At a certain point that only goes so far though. Then you add on to that massive financial struggles of the countries those leagues are in.

Madrid, Barca, and Juve are essentially holding the rest of the major players to ransom with court cases and financial penalty threats … and STILL they get PR passes.

The reality that they are dirty, corrupt political entities who first endangered their own leagues financial stability, and now want to rearrange everyone elses’ …just needs to play out more publicly.

And they should be banned from CL competition for … 3 years?

That may seem harsh, but the egregious way in which they’ve continued to conspire and attack even after being offered what was essentially amnesty should tell all parties involved that Real and Barca in particular will continue to look for ways to undermine things to get their way unless there are real penalties involved.

Remember, as things stand now they not only don’t face any penalties for their actions, they expect to get a hefty cash award from each and every one of your favorite teams even if they don’t totally get their way in court.
 
The EU’s barrister pronunciation went in favor of UEFA, and the EU official pronunciation will follow suit as usual in these cases in a few months, so… this should be the end of non-affiliated league attempts for the current times.
 
Weren’t UEFA waiting on this so they could ban all three clubs from CL?

Uefa slipping in a new super league esque format to their competition while the football population got distracted protesting against the super league will never not be funny.
 
So, the Super League is perfectly legal. The threat of expulsion in case the competition start to work is reasonable.
Obviously teams would not participate in both.
The problem is whether they can exclude players from any category. For example, a player from a team participating in the super league cannot play in a Euro.

No it’s not legal in the way that it was pursued. So unless you come back with a completely revised format, FIFA will block it and the court has said FIFA would not be breaking the law for doing so. Basically, unless it’s successfully appealed it’s not happened.
