Is the adversity faced by ETH unprecedented?

Nkunku (best attacker), Reece James(captain), Badishelle and some could say fofana as well (best defenders). Main goalkeeper (kepa) went on loan and talking bad about the chelsea project, and a list of other important injuries as well. It is not unprecedented as chelsea seems to be having worse luck in terms of injuries after the overhaul they had.

But, the Antony allegations and sancho problems are issue unrelated to injuries that I do not believe any other manager are currently facing.

Always the opportunist , never the victor.

Forgot about these.

The things Poch has had to overcome in his short spell at Chelsea to get them from a frankly embarrassing 12th-place finish last season to their high spot of 12th currently is unreal. Few give the man the credit he's due.

I think he's done about three years worth of work in less than one year and I'm worried he is losing patience with the club. For me the deciding factor will be if the Glazers stay beyond December. If they do then I can see Erik deciding to make plans to leave at the end of the season. I think he took a calculated gamble in taking over the club, namely that there would be a painful "clearout" phase and he would then be able to pursue his own plans, backed fully by new owners.

He's seen his attempts at clearing the stables blocked by the owners not paying to clear up their mess like Maguire and that has to be frustrating. If Tuchel does his usual trick of falling out with senior club figures, then I can see Bayern speaking to Erik and getting him to come at the end of the season. If Tuchel gets replaced by an interim manager then I think we can probably expect him to go there.

And we'll slide back into being vibes FC and embrace mediocrity

Jesus, how can you say it's a really bad misjudgment of ability and character? When it comes to ability it's still far too soon to say. And on character? What evidence do you have to say his character is not up to standard?

On ability, have you seen him play? To me there seems to be obvious limitations to his game that are unlikely to go away. Certainly doesn't look like a £80-90m player to me. He has about 50 appearances for the club - probably fair to start making an assessment of his ability.
On character, are you aware that he is currently on leave of absence due to multiple allegations of assault? Word against word, innocent until proven guilty, yada, yada, yada. This stuff is serious enough to keep him off the field.

This stuff is serious enough to keep him off the field only due to the fankly insane pressure being piled upon him by people like yourself making judgments on his character based on absolutly zero evidence.

Agree he hasn't shown to be a £80mn+ player yet though, but he has time on his side.

Sure, it's the people like me, who has done nothing on this matter, but post on RedCafe, that are piling on the pressure. It's not the police investigations, the media reporting on those investigations, Brazil's national manager removing him from the squad, the alleged victims posting pictures online, or the atmosphere following the Greenwood situation. It's obviously the RedCafe posts.

He’s never going to turn in to an £80m player. “Time is on his side” is just cope. By that logic Scott McTominay could turn in to an £80m player.

fecking hell

It is definitely unprecedented. It's not only internal problems but dealing with all the attention and external shit that comes with this club. I do not envy him.

He won't get every decision right though, so fans need to cut him some slack - especially now.

This job is HUGE.

Scott McTominay has more than 4 times the number of appearances, and a lot more data in a United shirt to pass judgement on. Predicting the trajectory of a players career is a fools errand at the best of times. Saying that either of those two players have a 0% probability of turning into an £80mn players is of course wrong - there are plenty of examples of players who have taking big strides in their mid-20s. Where was Mitoma 2 years ago? Mo Salah a few years before signing for Liverpool?

Lets be honest. His reputation was built because he managed an Ajax team who had a brilliant generation of home grown players like de Ligt, De Jong and at the time Donny VDB. He could easily outgun the rest of the league.

The 2019 run to the CL Semis was very impressive. The next year though, they didn't get out of the groups.
His reputation is built on winning often against better opponents: Real Madrid, Juve, Bayern, Borussia Dortmund. And got the best out of mediocre or failed PL players like Tadic and Haller.

In 2021 they got 6 wins in the CL group stage. No De Ligt and De Jong.

I think you are underselling our manager.

Mostly valid points and I am not aiming at you specifically, but people like you. The sentiment you are voicing is being parroted all over social media and mainstream media alike based solely on allegations with zero evidene. It's not very helpful and only contributes to the knee-jerk twitter lynch mob.
As for the Greenwood- impact, well people are seemingly unable to separate between the two and it's sad to see the club and everyone affiliated with it dragged through the mud because of it.

On topic - yes EtH has been dealt a poor hand but has shown encouraging signs throughout.

I’m not saying it’s impossible but I just don’t see it. He looks a million miles away.

He's had a massively difficult job on his hands. All that mentioned plus coming off the back of a shockingly poor season where the team had essentially downed tools.

I don't know if he'll manage to fully turn it around, as it's not just the team that's a mess but the club in general.

saw a clip the other day. Where was the media outrage when pep decided to not play Philips, and shipped cancelo or not play walker . Granted none of them put out statements like our main man

Eventually the poor running of the club will catch up to you...part of me feels sorry for EtH, but he is paid handsomely for his role and doesn't need anyone's sympathy.

He just needs to keep the players honest and hold them to standard everyday. Everything else is not entirely under his control (transfers/results/takeover)

And whats the betting there will be more clamour for the over rated, over hyped Pottechino to take over?

 not even remotely comparable. Isn't James already back in training? Nkunku best attacker? He hasn't played a single game for them yet! Kepa (main goalkeeper) is also funny as feck. They've wanted shot of him for ages.
He just returned back, but was out during the first few games of the season. I do not believe that anyone will argue that Nkunku is not their best attacker and kepa is not their best keeper. You can try asking knowledgeable chelsea fan. I may be misinformed.

Also back on the point of the thread. Brighton was without some key players and they still played attractive and effective football. I don't not see this adversity as an excuse to why we can't still play good football. Even chelsea which face similar adversity are playing better football. Something isn't right with our gameplan or culture at united
