Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

One of the main reasons I half expect us to go for Sancho is that it often seems to take us multiple windows to get big transfers sorted. To properly make sense we'd have to get rid of at least one of Mata and James though, probably both unless Amad and Pellistri (again) were to go out on loan. I somehow feel the likelyhood of it happening is slightly less on that basis.
Rashford, Pogba, Sancho, and Amad as wide forward/playmakers would be some awesome depth of options. Dreamland in both the good and bad/silly sense. Ole seems to like James though, and I think it's too early to expect him to be moved on.

And he's only turned 21 in March. I really would love it if we get him somehow, he's got 2 years left on his contract so no chance Dortmund can get 100+ million anymore, about 80 million euros could be enough (he was professional last year even with his move not going through)
We've got some great players in our team, get Sancho to prove you're competing for the very top, otherwise players like Bruno, Pogba won't stay around for too much longer. Spurs killed their momentum during Poch period by not building on what they already had.

This is one of my biggest problems with the club and how it's run.
We never do things early and always seem like the transfer windows are just a shit show.
Look at Liverpool these past few years. They are much more efficient. Often agreeing deals before the window even opens.
And it seems they've done so for Koante again.
We are so unorganized. Only need to look at last summer to see that.
They weren't really efficient in January were they, Ben Davies has still yet to play a game for them and Kabak looks out of his depth and hasn't improved their defensive situation.

It's most likely down to Ed. He seemed to leave transfers till the end of window hoping the price goes down especially for expensive transfers and usually ended up paying more or the same fees anyway. Depending on his replacements, this could change.
I'd rather have Grealish personally. Especially considering players that do well in Germany often don't do well here, and we could easily end up with a very expensive player that performs worse than Greenwood.
Numbers in Germany won't be the same in EPL. But, if we can expect half of those numbers, would be good.
The German league is very different to the PL. Not only the quality of the oppositions is lower but also the style of play is night and day. Every time I watch Bundesliga games I’m shocked by how open it is. It’s much easier for someone who plays for the big clubs in Germany especially an attacking player to stack up insane stats. Take Mkitaryan for example he had some thing like 23 goals and 32 assists the season before we signed him and we all know how that worked out for us and himself.
I think we are not in a position to fork out 100 million plus on pure potential like Sancho as these types of transfer mistakes are not easy to rectify.
We should learn a thing or two from how City built their team, for all their crazy transfer budgets they have never spent anywhere close to 100 million on a single player and they have the best team in the world right now.

That's not an inspiring timeframe to examine them.

Has he started playing well for England?
No he’s never had a good game for England. However the sample size is still pretty small and also Southgate is a horribly negative manager who doesn’t really get the best out of many of the players. I’m pretty confident Ole would get a tune out of him.
I still want him but why I still open to the idea that he isnt that good is because he isnt really that good in the CL either.
Thing is, I can see why we want him - young, English, great stats, good all round skill set, can play in multiple positions so could give any of Rashford, Greenwood, Bruno a rest or in the first twos case, play up top. All those things make me want him here too.
Problem is, outside of Germany he hasn’t had many good games - I’ve never seen him play well for England and I’ve hardly seen him play well vs good opposition in the Champions League either. There could be many factors to that but IMO a £70m+ player should be able to play well regardless of tactics and opposition - that’s why you pay the big bucks. What with the game being more open and lower quality overall in the Bundesliga, I do wonder whether he’d struggle to adapt.

You should not worry too much about those two - they were part of very well functioning Dortmund teams and suffered when they were in a different setup. Sancho is carrying a mess of a team through the season, he will not have those problem once arriving somewhere else.
People bring up the Bundesliga numbers argument but ignore the fact he is even outperforming KDB over there at a younger age.

This summer needs to be. It seems like we are very content to not push on.
My impression of the situation is that with Covid we'll have a limited budget - maybe £30-50m plus whatever we raise from sales.

Grealish has stood out in an England shirt while Sancho hasn't. Sancho hasn't made a huge mark on the CL either

Obviously I am only talking from what I interpret from what is being said in the media so I may be completely wrong and hope so.
I think our finances are worse than anticipated and with the uncertainty of the fallout from Super League I doubt they will risk spending, and they definitely won't be deferring the Glazer dividends..
Great way of proving your point but Liverpool are far from a well oiled machine when it comes to transfers.
On paying staff their wages, maintenance costs etc. I'm a huge, huge fan of Sancho and wanted him since before he moved to Dortmund but we'd have been mad and very naive to pay Dortmund demands last summer. We can only spend the money we have available, covid has hit a lot of clubs very, very hard.
Just gotta feeling his form will translate better than the likes of Kagawa/Mkhitaryan as he played youth football here
I think our summer budget will be less than 70-80m. Whether we should spend it all on him, or buy a few other players instead (DM and CB) would be the key question.
We have Lingard and De Gea to sell. And a few others. We should sign Sancho with the initial budget and then a DM with the rest
Think Laurie Whitwell said a while ago that we will have max 70m parked aside for a "marquee" signing and anything after that will likely be opportunistic or squad signings.
I think 70m will be enough to bring sancho to OT.
Problem with this is that spending 70-80 mill on a few players will mean we likely won't buy proven quality. I feel like this strategy has backfired on us on the past - I'd rather spend big on one player that's a sure thing and will definitely improve the eleven on the pitch.
