Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

Personally I think 12 months is optimistic. Nevertheless it would be stupid for United to pay £100m for a player that other clubs won't go that high for. Chelsea, PSG and City are the only clubs that could afford that evaluation. Chelsea, given their current level of investment, are unlikely to pursue him. The player wants to come back to England, which rules out PSG. And Pep has openly said they wouldn't sign him back.

Dortmund stuck with their evaluation last summer but I think that was foolish as they wont see that money for him this season. Fans wont be back this season and clubs are suffering because of it. More so Dortmund than us. Paying £100m for a player when you're the only ones in for him and when the selling club isn't in a great financial position is ridiculous. If the club decides to back out of this one i won't blame them - £100m for any player is a lot, especially on a young player where you're buying potential. There have been lots of examples of young players going for big money and failing to live up to the hype (Refer to Demebelle, Pullic or Kai)

I'd rather go for Grealish and Upamecano for that money (and Rice when Pogba goes) before going straight in for Sancho

Defiantly Grealish first but if we had him and Sancho even if he only has an OK season and goes for a better price, then wow that's some midfield. My only fear then would be the ole out brigade claiming its too good a squad for him

Attackers go for more than other players, do I think one of the best teenagers out there is worth 100M? of course I do, the same with Haaland. As you and others have stated would people pay 100M for him the 'current market' perhaps not, it also depends how many clubs are interested.

Haaland will go for his buyout clause or thereabouts. He will go where he wants to. Not where Dortmund wants to sell him. That’s just the sort of player he is and that’s the just the sort of contract he has.

As for Sancho, I don’t think he’s worth 100 m. He’s a tier below the best of the young lot who will go for that. Because he’s not a proven finished product - and he’s had a dip in form. And football has moved on from taking huge punts on such players in my opinion. And he’s not a teenager by the way. He’s nearing 21. Still young but not freakishly young.

Make no mistake about it. Sancho get his move to a huge club very soon and will tear it up there instead of with us.

My opinion is that he is worth every penny of the figures reported.

I also think with Mata and Lingard probably off this summer, maybe Pogba too and probably next year Matic and Cavani as well. We have some positions to fill.

Could also say the same for Grealish moving to a big club eventually as well, lets face it we would all be very gutted if he ends up signing for Liverpool/City but those concerns are also valid for Sancho too

For his own interests with the England NT a move to United with Rashford on the opposite wing would have been absolutely inch perfect, with a year in advance to prepare for the EUROs. He's struggled to make an impact for England but his club form automatically had him in contention, now he's well down in the pecking order and might have to make do as an impact sub at best.

As of right now, we're still in the best position to sign him. But its only January, who knows what position teams will be in come the summer. So much can change.

Even if we manage to sell all those players we won’t get more than 60-65 million anyway. Sancho and Grealish would cost around 200 million. We don’t have that kind of money at the moment, plus this would still not solve our DM issue.

We’d get £60-£70 for Pogba alone even with a year on his contract, Chelsea got £100 million for Hazard with a year left on his contract and regardless of just on pitch talent Pogba is far more marketable.

Also as pointed out I forgot Dalot and Pereira too so there’s definitely enough to create funds for Sancho AND Grealish with money saved on wages too, it wouldn’t be easy in the current climate but it’s certainly doable seeing as we’d no doubt employ people far more creative with finance and accounting then either myself or you.

I'd go for a central defender, a defensive midfielder and a striker before Sancho.

Also, much credit to Ole to still make the team competitive without getting Sancho. Put us in a position of strength if we ever come back for him

Right sided forward has been the biggest hole for coming up to a decade and it’s arguable since Ronaldo left in 2009, having someone who’s a natural yet quality right sided attacker would make a world of difference as it’d allow AWB to simply defence but also create space for Fernandes and Rashford seeing as they’re our main threat and teams know if those two are stopped we struggle to create.

Unless we’re selling Martial then I don’t see why we’d need a striker seeing as we’ve got Martial, Greenwood and Cavani all competing for one spot ? I don’t see Ole selling Martial and even though I think Haaland would be an upgrade I think Haaland is Bayern or Real bound next, I’d much rather we bought Sancho and played Greenwood as a striker to alternate and replace Martial with Martial then becoming a good back up.

Yep. Never made sense to me. German posters were claiming how brilliant it was that they could sell back to money bags English for much more but it does limit their market.
Its like Sane signing for City. He was only ever going to Bayern after that. It was like he was on loan until he was ready.

Probably true at the moment. Pogba has had an uptick in form while Sancho is is on a bad run of form. Also, Pogba will likely be cheaper in price due to his contract length and age, though I suspect will demand higher wages.

While most fans and pundits were losing their minds that is was basically a criminal act that united wouldn't break the British transfer record in the middle of a pandemic for Sancho in the summer, personly I think it was the correct decision.

It's not just Germany though, the players that move also have to adjust culturally, you adjust to a new team, new players so it takes time anywhere you go.

Even going from England to any other major league there's an adjustment period, for attacking players players need to learn how you play, what kind of passes you like, the same for a midfielder, suddenly you have to learn your team mates play style and tactically to the team itself.

KDB moved from Germany, Salah moved from Italy yet they both hit the ground running, yet they didn't even get a sniff when they were first in England.

I’m sure we’ll come back for Sancho because we need an established winger but I doubt any club will be in a position to pay over the odds for him. But my guess is BVB is kicking themself now for not taking our offer because his value has probably been cut in half with his performances so far this year. There is still a player in there though...
