Is it time to burst “Rashy’s” bubble?

Why would you want to burst the bubble of a young player who, as far as I'm aware, has not shown any attitude problems and especially when he plays in a position where confidence is so important?

Quite.

I think we're in a position where fans are obsessed with finding problems every where.

Picking on a home grown guy with a good work ethic and attitude seems bizarre.

To me, he hasn't looked 100% fit since the Liverpool game, give him a good break over the summer (probably be in England squad though), and a good pre season, and hopefully we will see a more thoughtful player next season.

Rashford is a speedster. Without his speed he is nothing. Problem is even with his speed, he doesn't use it well.
He has got a helluva lot to learn. He will be a good understudy for a striker of the likes of RVN or RVP. Just saying that makes me wanna throw up, because he will never be as good as them.
Right now he thinks he's better than he really is. Looks like to me that as soon as he surpassed Lukaku in the pecking order his motivation has dropped. Go on Rashy, promote something else, maybe that will teach you how to finish.

No, he's just not very good. He goes on many full sprints of late and works his socks off, so he's obviously not injured.

It's a glaringly obvious problem that we are toothless up front. Problems throughout the team, and up front is no exception. Not scoring goals and creating few chances is an urgent problem for any football team.

He reminds me of that person you always run into when playing pick up basketball that wears the headband and has the latest shoes, but then he starts playing and he’s taking shots from everywhere and missing and then you realize he’s actually terrible

HaHa

In the climbing world, we called that " All the Gear No Idea"

The climber with all the latest, but nicely clean, and unscratched gear, prancing around on a sunny day,
talking about which climb he was going to do, but no one actually saw him do anything.

His reputation far exceeding his actual ability.

Rashford is nowhere near ready to be main front man for a team like us.
That doesn't mean his attitude is wrong though

Rashford is young striker who has the right attitude and put up double figures in the last 3 seasons for us. Sure he's not good enough yet to lead the line, but is one of the players I'd firmly keep and develop at the club.

Rashford doesn't know any better because of no elders putting him in his place. Do you think his conduct and attitude would be the same if Zlatan was still here, for example?

I think it's because we don't have the quality players wo would make him sit up. Look at sane for example, he's got Bernardo, Sterling, Mahrez who could come to the wings and give him a run for his money hence he knows he had to keep working hard. If Lukaku was a quality top notch striker, believe me Rashford would keep working hard to rise above him but who are the attackers he can look up to? The lazy Martial who doesn't give a feck? Lukaku? Lingard? Sanchez?

That's why whenever a team has a quality 1st team players, the squad players would always want to work hard because without that, they would hardly see game times. You look at players like Pedro who doesn't have the talent of Sanchez, Messi on the wings while he was at Barca but he kept on working hard because he knew he had to keep up with the talents ahead of him and it paid well for him in the end but when you have shit players ahead of a talented player, the talented player wouldn't worry and would expect the coach to come running back to him regardless because the shit players ahead of him don't matter. That's the case of Martial and Rashford.

That's why I would love us to bring in Felix, Chiesa/Sancho and Ounas in the summer to give them a good competition. Moreover, the above players have fantastic work rates to go with their talents.

We need a quality striker, its not Rashfords fault we dont have one. If we get a quality striker and a really good RW I dont see the need to play him every game. That will help him in the long run.

This is the issue, the media make out young players have to play to develop but it's better him growing in the next couple of years, being second fiddle to a truly WC striker than playing every game in a bad team and picking up lots of bad habits.

I don't want him to lose the natural air of confidence the lad has but are we harming his long term prospects by making him think he's already an elite forward? I feel like his general game is so erratic and unpolished.

Said it before, he is a player capable of producing great moments but his overall 90 minute game leaves a lot to be desired on a regular basis. I genuinely do not think this lad can be a first team regular if we are looking to win big trophies unless he takes a big slice of humble pie and works really hard on all aspects of his game and simplifies it... i.e. becomes a work horse who understands his own limitations.

I think as a long term squad player he'd be a great asset to have around but I fear we have blown up his ego to such an extent - he would walk if he was told he's not good enough to make it here as a first team regular.
All this true but he is more brawn than brain or skill at the moment. Im not convinced he will come good. Time will tell.

elders/seniors/superiors interchangeable terms, really. You're essentially saying what I was. Competition also generates proper conduct, which I think we're sorely lacking. We're not a professional outfit at all.

Without the Champions League, I've no idea whether we can bring in the kind of players we need.

Yes that and he needs a truly world class forward to learn from. He cant rely on the manager solely.

Loved him bursting onto the scene but never thought he looked like a technically sound player. Like him and want him to succeed but I do not believe for an instant he will become a great player, just a good one.

Right now though he is not even close to a good one, but so is the majority of the team.

The comparisons to Welbeck are way off the mark. Welbeck was(is) a really good player in general play. His link up play is excellent. His finishing is dreadful though. Rashford's team play is inferior but he is more talented individually and is a better goal scorer.

Rashford is talented enough but his attitude is dreadful. He sulks in games far too often and his options in the final third are incredibly poor.

Unfortunately, attitude is a major issue for most of the United squad, especially the young players, and in my opinion comes from the lack of senior leaders in the squad. The players who have leadership qualities aren't good enough to garner respect and those who are good enough lack leadership qualities or the ability to set a good example themselves.

If Rashford was at one of the teams at the top right now, that petulance would be out of his game within months.

The culture is rotten at United just now. All of the right noises were coming out of the club until the last few weeks when it's back to "it will take years to fix". Which is code for "nothing is going to change".

For all his faults, Welbeck had a very good attitude and was a team player.

Rashford had that too, but his head has gone now, for some reason. Should never have been given the 10 shirt.
Did to the #10 what Memphis did to the #7. Or maybe it's the #10 did to him what the #7 did to Memphis.

Although he is still relatively young but the amount of experience he has gained at United should be doing a lot better than he has shown with his decision making

Id like to see the down to earth rashford that knows his limitation and not trying to be the star of the team that isn't matched to his ability

On the one hand i don't want us to discourage players from trying things and believing in themselves. However, i do think a certain amount of intelligence and good decision making needs to be added to his game. It's a fine line but i think he can be a much better player if he improves these things. At the moment he's just frustrating.

He's 21 right? Just thought i'd check. Some of the reaction here is really over the top. I've never thought Rashford has a attitude problem but people here look at him buying nice cars and having tattoos and equate it to him being big headed.

Ronaldo and Rooney both had tons of experience at 21 and both had moments that would frustrate you. Probably being harsh on Rooney as he was amazing at that age but the point stands - young players should be encouraged to do things and not play it safe... And, just so we're clear, you'd like Rashford to stop trying to do things because occasionally they don't come off?

The lads clearly lacking a bit of confidence. He is fantastic to watch at times though and apart from Martial he is the best dribbler of the ball we have.

It does stem from midfield too, he and Martial are being drained of service too.

I will agree he does need to show a bit more intelligence and maturity but to be fair, since Ibra he hasn’t really had many players to learn from/be mentored.

He is 21, so plenty of time... it feels like he’s been around for longer than he has and you have to say at that age it’s unfair to put too much responsibility on him...

Rashy has no bubble. He's an extremely talented kid who is trying to do his best. The problem is United managing VP, board and whoever else the feck is making decisions over there thinking that you can afford to have zero experienced, in-form players in a team of the stature of United. Giving youth a chance should never turn into the mess we are in. Any decent team needs balance of young talent and experience.

That and two out of only three established, top players we have - Pogba and De Gea are both sh*ting all over the place (third is Maguire - thank God for him). You'd be blind to not notice they are in serious trouble. So we have no established attacking top players, just a bunch of very talented youngsters. And then we are shocked our team is unpredictable and inconsistent? Duh!

I see what you're saying and then there is something like this that makes you wonder about some of his decision making.

Rashy's main problem is that he is a bit (or quite) rushy in his decision making. He has the tools to become a top player but has to significantly improve on his decision making. In other words, he has to mature mentally.

That will come with age and that shot was probably more out of frustration than anything.

This summer was bad for a number of reasons but the main issue of it was the pressure we are now putting on our young players to perform week in week out. Which they will never do. Losing Sanchez, while hes been shocking, would leave us shorter than we already are

What a pointless discussion. Dont have any players remotely better to start each game, and there is like 6 positions/players we need to sort out before him in any case. Ofcourse a player like him struggles against a low block.

He asked to be paid as top player at 200k/wk and the Club agreed to his demand. I'm not sure why we should lessen expectation with he's still young excuse.

I think you're a bit too kind, his wage demand make us naturally expect much more from him. It comes with the territory, he's paid like a big boy, he has to play like one now. Shooting out of frustration, like we're on Sunday league pitch, when we are trailing at home is crazy to me. Rashford is one of our senior players, he's paid like one, has amassed tons of experience, the expectation is obviously higher.

There was a really good chance for him to score in the early part of the first half but he somehow just left the ball behind or misdribbled.

We sometimes forget how young he is and that strikers of his age are prone to inconsistencies.

It also doesn't help that he is played out of position on the left flank. I still think Martial is better out wide with Rashford through the centre. Rashford is incapable of putting in a good cross or pass from the flanks. Its just not in his skillset yet especially against teams double teaming him and sitting back.

Yet I suppose OGS wants to hide Martial up top because his work rate isn't up to par on the left flank?

We need to start playing our players in their best positions. Although it seems Dan James is now looking like our best left winger. So that leaves Rashford as the odd man out again? Back to the right wing he goes?

Fully agree. His decision making is worse now than it was 3 years ago. He is not nearly as good as he appears to think he is, the free kick attempts being an example. Ideally he would be playing in a team with a lot of strong characters who might provide him with some direction but we are devoid of that at the moment.

We'll regret giving him the big contract. He has some attributes, but his biggest problem is ball control. It will be extremely difficult to develop it at this age. But at least he should be improving his decision making.

This.

A lot of people treat Rashford as if he's just came out from the youth team

I like how even when we're behind he doesn't hide and he's eager for the ball and wants to make things happen.

However, he's lacking leaders and established players around him to remind him to keep things simple and tell him when he should be releasing the ball. Shame he didn't come through a few years earlier when Giggs and Scholes were still knocking around.

He gets way too much stick on here though.

That was one of those moments where I question him. Must be incredibly frustrating to play alongside him.
