Two republicans have been found liable for the Omagh bombing following a landmark civil action taken by relatives of some of the victims.
Colm Murphy and Seamus Daly were ordered to face a retrial after they successfully appealed a finding of liability against them in the original case in Belfast High Court.
But their second trial delivered the same outcome in the same court, with judge Mr Justice John Gillen ruling the men were responsible for the 1998 Real IRA attack.
The attack killed 29 people, including a woman pregnant with twins, when a dissident republican car bomb ripped through the Co Tyrone town on 15 August 1998. More than 200 were injured in the blast.
No-one has been criminally convicted of the bombing.
However, in 2009 Murphy, a builder and publican from Dundalk, Co Louth, and Daly, a bricklayer from Culloville, Co Monaghan, and two others were held responsible in the initial civil action taken by some of the bereaved families.
Along with Real IRA leader Michael McKevitt and Co Louth republican Liam Campbell, the men were ordered to pay £1.6m in damages.
McKevitt, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence in the Republic of Ireland for directing terrorism, and Campbell, who recently successfully fought extradition proceedings to Lithuania on arms smuggling charges, failed in their bids to overturn the Omagh civil judgment.
They are now seeking to have their case heard in the European Court of Human Rights.
Murphy and Daly's appeals were upheld, but both men were ordered to face another trial.
The retrial started in January and finished last month, with Mr Justice Gillen delivering his reserved judgment today.

Irish politician in 'being a massive fecking hypocrite' shocker!!

Trying to frame it as him blowing the lid on the whole thing..... slimy fecking bastard.

I hope every Guard in the country follows the fecker around and pull him up at every opportunity.

Ming only admitted it because he was going to be outed.

Anyway, not that I am defending him because I think he is a little bollox, but as far as I am aware a politician cannot be prosecuted for driving offences when traveling in and out of the Dáil. So if he is caught on the phone or speeding etc, he should not be given the ticket/points. I could be wrong.

That's wrong in itself.

An absolute farce.

This is an absolute fecking disgrace. I heard Donnelly being interviewed last week by George Hook about it and it drove me mad. It makes absolutely no sense. It's getting feck all media coverage as well as the govt are trying to keep in relatively under wraps.

Donnelly comes across well on most things I've seen him interviewed on.

Is that a law? If so it's a shocker of a law. And also if it is a law as opposed to a loophole or corruption then the nation's journos need to buck the hell up.

I don't think that's the point of the law. It's something like a Politician can't be halted on their way to the Dáil. It's an old law to ensure that they don't get held up as some form of strange gerrymandering (not the right word) or outside influence on the running of government.

The speeding/drink driving thing is just these boys using this law for their own interests.

I'm not too sure, but that's what I had been told.

If a politician can't be halted by the Gards going in and out of the Dáil, then they wouldn't be able to get the tickets!

I've heard plenty of stories before that I can't say here!

I think the rule is that a politician can't be arrested going to or from the Dail, I don't think that means they can't be arrested for the offence later or given penalty points. Pretty sure the rule is a carry over from the early years of the state when things were a bit more volatile, though I might be wrong on that.

Haven't been aware of any protests, any petitions ro anything

A friend and comrade of mine Seamus McDonagh was on Vincent Brown tonight and absolutely trounced

"We need to give the power back to the people by getting rid of the Euro and getting back to the Sterling." - Gerard O Brien

Neither have I. It was just the one interview I heard. Any considering what is being proposed, we should be talking about this everywhere. It's crazy.

I'll ask a few of the left parties if they have anything in plan.

Ha. I don't watch enough Vincent Browne. He's one of the best characters on television, even if he isn't really a character. He's brilliant.

Donnelly reckons they're going to sell off all the forestry rights to foreign companies for a once off payment of 700m (iirc) when it's worth 1.3b per annum or per something anyway (I missed the start). Even if it is worth 1.3b every ten years, selling it off for a 700m once off payment is absolutely retarded.

Foreign companies will be able to come in and rip up some of the most beautiful parts of the country.

Few times I've met him he's been sound, he knows I'm a stick and he hates us, but still been polite

The party later used the name "The Workers Party Republican Clubs". In 1982, both the northern and southern sections of the party became simply "The Workers' Party". The Workers Party is sometimes referred to by other Republicans as the "Sticks" or "Stickies" because it uses adhesive stickers of the Easter Lily emblem for its 1916 commemorations whereas others, most notably Sinn Féin use a pin for theirs.

I keep my Easter Lily in my wallet...

Does that make me a wally?

I know Jake. I know a lot more than you'd think.

according to that video earlier on this it's up for an 80 yr lease. are they mad?

short term solutions again which will end up costing the state more in the long run, but it's not the pols money or resource so they don't care.

Getting up in little over 6 hours tomorrow, to drive down to Kells to help Seamus McDonagh with his election campaign to be the new T.D in Meath East. Be an interesting day.

Support for the Government parties remains stable, according to the latest Sunday Business Post/Red C tracking poll.
However, the poll also shows that a large majority of people believe the Local Property Tax is unfair.
The poll was taken between Monday and Wednesday, with over 1,000 voters surveyed nationwide.
It shows relative stability in the political landscape across Government and Opposition groups.
Fine Gael remains unchanged at 28%, while Labour gains one point to 13%.
Fianna Fáil is down two points to 24%, with Sinn Féin also down two points to 14%.
Independents and other parties are up three points to 21%.
However, there is a grim message for the Government in the public attitudes towards the property tax.
More than two thirds of people (67%) believe the tax is unfair, while 59% say they are less likely to support the Government parties as a result of the tax.

You're more obsessed with opinion poles that a bloody party spin doctor.

They just show how we as a country think, more accurately then anything else when there's no elections.

It's good to see the others getting more and more popular.

How are they conducted? Is it a sample space type assessment?

Can someone tell me why socialists all have awful teeth?

McDonagh? haha I'll pass that on.

Mine are grand, at the moment...

Anyone go to any of the commemorations?

Yeah, saw bits & pieces on O'Connell Street on Sunday.

Lots of foreigners, not many Irish.

Tom Cruise is Irish, its a great day for irish politics.

Went down to Arbour Hill, was interesting.

And it's more than a great day, it's a great year.

This is a tweet from Fianna Fail's Wicklow PRO Stephen Kearon.
