Iran v US confrontation

 As things stand it’s a win for Trump.
All polls put Dems winning the election, his approval is on low forties, and people seem to not want a war (bar the crazy nutters who still think that the Iraq war was a great idea). Add to the fact that he did not build a wall and didn’t bring troops home.

It is Dems to lose. Which they will probably do with all the Intra-fighting (especially from the left part of the party).

Yet the right wingers in the party are allowed to rebuke the left of the party at every turn? It seems it’s only infighting when the left criticises the right?

I meant this particular episode is (currently) a win for Trump.

What was crazy was that he said Iran seem to be standing off. They literally attacked America last night.

It's like when a fat kid school Bully attacks the skinny kid, the skinny kid smacks the fat Bully and then the Bully says 'relax man it was a joke'. We all know who won this stand off and who's just fronting.

I wonder what Kim fatty the third over in North Korea is making of all this... let loose a few missiles into a US military base and the president has a pres conference to talk about peace and prosperity.

Isn't Guam in range for him?

The infighting is coming from the centrists... Warren and Sanders look united still

Yup. Iran lost their top military guy and responded by blowing up some Iraqi sand.

For now anyway. Pretty sure there’ll be more covert operations ahead, in Iraq and perhaps elsewhere.

No one wants the risk of war
Lots of people won't give a feck, and almost like the display of power from 'their' country.

Millions in America don't even care about the risk of themselves or their children getting shot in their own country.

The presidential candidates are all behaving correctly. I see much more attacks from left to Biden, then from Biden voters to Sanders/Warren.

People on left don't learn their lesson either. They slung so much mud on Hillary and basically made it a "Trump or Hillary, both are the same evil at least Trump is honest". They're doing the same with Biden now imo. Turning him into some villain thats the other side of the coin.

I don't see how. A bunch of people voted for trump because of his so called "anti war" policy and pulling out the troops. This would have put them off imo.

The narrative, as always, will flip. People will vote for Trump because "he" (alone) decided enough was enough and was proactive, was protecting US citizens, etc. Which is both right and wrong. CIA, FBI, military, Homeland Security, etc. all contribute to the daily protection of the country and it's citizens...more so domestically than abroad - abroad protection is more about strategic landmarks, resources, and interests. However, no matter the President, the US like other countries have their major domestic issues and violence...which doesn't all amount to the President's fault as it's more cultural and local based and freak/rogue type of engagement.

I don't think most American voters give a shit about foreign policy as it's so far over their head and will not really impact them on a day to day basis. They want to "know" what a President will do for them in terms of jobs, health, opportunity, and allowing them to keep/have what is already theirs or "should" be theirs.

Exactly how I see this. It can easily go beyond any control, and ensure another Trump term.

I mean, AOC just yesterday said that in any other country she and Biden wouldn’t be in the same party. Let’s assume that Sanders win the nomination. Her being one of Sanders biggest endorsers, his is she gonna convince those ‘guys with whom in other countries she wouldn’t be in the same party’ to vote for Sanders. And of course, if Biden win, I expect ‘the squad’ to at best case give a half-assed endorsement.

Republicans are much more unified, and if they win, it is because of that.

I expect you notice them more because they invoke a bigger reaction and resonate with you more. In contrast when you see the left candidates criticised you shrug and subconsciously dismiss it as sensible criticisms of radical ideas.

I saw an interview with Michael Scheuer a while back and he claimed that Iran have been building up sleeper cells in the US for decades that are ready to act if the US really overstep the mark in relations between the two countries.

He’s an absolute lunatic. Tends to be right some of the time though.

I think the Iranian attacks on military bases was just to appease their people. The US must have been warned prior to the attacks and all personnel taken out of harms way. I don't think both countries want an escalation.

That was my take from the start but if you look at what Iran have lost vs what the US have lost then its a big win for Trump.

Switzerland (US representative in Iran) also confirmed that the two sides exchanged several messages before the rocket strike on the US bases, which would support your thought.

He's a bit out there for sure but it would be a logical strategy for a country like Iran to employ. Although maintaining such covert cells would have become much more difficult in the digital age I would have thought.

Trump: "Iran seem to.be standing down".
Mate, they bombed your base last night.

The fact it’s viewed as a win for Trump because it’s some sort of pissing game when it’s quite clearly an absolutely monumental loss for the US just shows how disconnected the President is from the country he’s representing.

It depends how it plays out from here. I'd be amazed if that remains direction of travel going forward.

Yet that is the situation now and in your opinion this has proven to be a win for Trump.
