Iran v US confrontation

Exactly. I'm more interested in what Russia will directly do behind everyone's back. China sees everyone as pieces in their mahjong game.
If Iran is clever they will sell off at a bargain price a third of each oil and gas operation to China and Russia and invite them to use some ports and airbases for free... And do it asap

That'll be interesting.

If Iran retaliate then that'll be America's entery...best thing Iran can do is ignore the assassination and play the wounded diplomat through the media and on international forums. They can't afford to go to war with the US. That said it depends how much they're pushed.

From Khaminei’s website apparently - Imam Hussein greets Soleimani in paradise:

China's entire one belt one road relies on Iran.

It goes through many countries. China's a crafty nation, they'll have access to Arabian Sea and Strait of Hormuz as well. Oil straight from the ME without having to use the Indian Ocean and all the issues that it causes. They're a ruthless lot.

Can't really avoid iran...

Unless you went Turkmenistan then huge viaducts over or tunnels under the Caspian sea ... Massive expense ... Engineering wise bloody hard and of course it would be a very vunerable pinch point

Could be a case of the US trying to provoke Iran and derail the Single Belt Road. If that's the case there's no way China will let Iran relatiate in a big way.

You can't make this shit up- just was told by folks that there are stories that some stores around the country ran out of bread and other supplies bc people are worried about the Iran retaliation. Cold War v2 here we come.

If Iran retaliates, those oil and gas operations will be worth nothing. The US then will really get in a war of them, and there is feck all (especially China) they can do about it. US forces dwarf those of Russia and China, so in any hypothetical full-scale non-nuclear war, there is only one winner. And well, China has no ability to project their forces, so there is no way they can enter that war.

For China, a war between US and Iran is a good scenario. Continue their economic growth, while US' economy stagnates, and proclaims that countries should get more connected to them. Russia cannot enter the war, unless they want to both get humiliated and destroy their economy. Actually, I don't see US entering a conventional war too. If the worst happens, it is going to be just bombing Iran to the stone age, not actually invading them like they did with Iraq and Afghanistan. Which in some sense it is the worst possible scenario.

Abu Mahdi who died also in the attack is respected by a good percentage of Iraqi people, specially the ones who fought beside him in the war against ISIS. He was a main figure in the war against ISIS and that is why the people there are divided on the attack. The people does not like and protesting the Iranian influence in the country, but they just cant say they are glad with the death of Abu Mahdi who was was one of the first people on the front lines in the war against ISIS.

The one thing I was afraid of, is that this attack is just a power show of of the USA and will not help the Iraqi people what so ever to continue their protests against the corrupted government, and my concerns were in place, as early as today, militias took advantage of the situation to attack the protests that we had since 2 months now and they will end it by force.

Geraldo is.... moderate now?
Kind of a funny question in a way because a segment of right wing folks claim to be anti interventionist and determined to let the world clean its own messes - unless it's of course convenient not to be. On another note - I think Geraldo has always been more of a moderate. He frequently got into it with O Reilly and Hannity. But of course he s a buddy of Trump as well so..whichever way the wind blows?

I bet ammo sales skyrocket too.

An unsurprising outcome of this whole development. Just underlines how utterly crooked Tuesday's Trump tweet encouraging an Iraqi uprising ("this is your time!") was.

Most concrete example I've heard and this is coming straight from someone who s from there is Flint, MI. In other words - considering the economics there many of them should be saving their money rather than buying out grocery stores. Proof though that the fear mongering works.

Edit: NYC now saying it's on high alert for being a prime target. Guess all the sushi around the city will soon be sold out.

Eh, I'm pretty certain this didn't actually happen and is just BS being spread on the internet. It assumes that far more people know about this situation in Flint than likely do in reality.

Any major city in the US (NY, LA, Chicago, etc.) will be on alert given the methods of the IRGC. LA also has the largest Iranian population outside of Iran, which would potentially make it a target for Iran to recruit sympathizers (despite most Iranians leaving after/because of the revolution). NYC is always overly public about these announcements, imo, with press conferences and stuff. There have been terrorist attacks abroad and NYPD gets together a press conference when a statement would do.

Can't really explain why but I feel like this was a bad strategic move by the US (killing the general). Just a hunch. Iran can milk this diplomatically.
