IPL 2019

If K1M win this game, everyone will talk about the run-out as the moment that turned the game. But really, this is shocking batting.

Smith's wicket was an incredible catch but Samson and Stokes threw their wickets away.

Rajasthan have bottled it after Buttler dismissal.

What an over from Shami. Brilliant.

Ashwin is such a cnut.
Tbf he'd come to the end of his spell and Buttler was still in. He's their best bowler and he probably thought Buttler was going to see it home.

Still poor though, I agree.

He deliberately stopped though, it's not like butler was out of his crease when the ball was supposed to be delivered. Poor by him and the third umpire.

Who the feck thought it was a good idea to pick Sam Curran for a tournament in India?

Paying 1 million for a 120kmph trundler.. this is going to end only one way.

Rcb were the other team in the bidding war. Tells you just how much some of these teams think.

I know he's not played much cricket in all but I think it's pretty clear that's there definitely something about Sam Curran that makes him pretty special and worth investing in (even if he could do with adding a few kph to his bowling).

Mankading a set batsman screams of 'I couldn't get you out any other way'. Very poor decision, especially since Buttler was in his crease during Ashwin's run up, and he'd not received any prior warning either.

Ashwin is going to reget that.

Not saying Ashwin was right but, let's be honest, if we keep hyping up the IPL and throwing more money and exposure at it, the players are going to do ever-more desperate things to win aren't they.

We can't create a billion-dollar tournament and then expect the players to uphold the old amateur spirit. Ashwin knew he'd bowled out and, as he's the best bowler, there was a good chance Buttler would go on and finish the game. So he took the only chance he had left.

None of this is to condone what Ashwin did though. Would have liked to see him try that with Stokes rather than Buttler.

Everyone else manages to play by the rules without being a cnut.

The players are paid win or lose, I don't see why it should make them any more desperate to win than they might normally be. If anything acts like that are more likely to negatively impact their stock in the long run, fans want to see batsmen and bowlers going at it, not stupid technicalities and shoddy umpiring.

Jesus christ, that was absolutely terrible by Ashwin. Not sure why the umpire gave him out either, but Ashwin's gonna regret what he did. Disgusting way to win.

Ashwin is an insufferable cnut in every way. He was my next door neighbor for 2 years and people here had to put up with his ego for quite awhile. Refused to even speak with one of the 12 year old kids here who just wanted him to say hi to them.

He is basically a very dour, serious guy in real life and not surprising he doesn't give a feck about doing what it takes to win even if it is unsporting.

I have to say, some of the reaction to this has been over the top. Paddy Upton's press conference made him seem like a self righteous wanker.

They need to change the rules to clearly say what's allowed and what's not, instead of relying on pseudo moral policing. If this kind of thing happened in a world cup final, it'd be terrible.

Why is it okay for a batsman to nick it and stand, but this isn't? Both are okay by the rules. Cheating is cheating.

"I thought the players were able to stay focussed and reset themeselves after that run out. I was very happy with the players themselves, the way they acted and responded to that situation. And our concious decision was to hold our heads up high and maintain our dignity as a team."

"I think R Ashwin's actions tonight speak for him and represent him. When I looked in the eyes of his teammates, I'm not sure it represented his teammates. We'll leave it up to the IPL fans to decide if that's the kind of thing they want to see, and we'll leave it up to the cricket world to judge R Ashwin's actions tonight. But for us, we certainly are here just to play cricket and entertain the fans and just be good role models for people who love the game.

I hope Ashwin mankads the entire team in the reverse fixture.

Warne talking about integrity and spirit of the game.:lol:

Great Post. As you say, rules need to be clarified ASAP.

I don't have a problem with mankading but Ashwin literally stops in between and waits for Butler to go out of the crease. Butler wasn't taking an advantage in that case.

Warne Twitter tirade is just funny btw.

I didnt like what Ashwin did but imo rules permitted it. Problem is with the rules. They're ambiguous enough for that to be a wicket.

This is Buttler on all the other deliveries in that over. As Harsha says, that's often the margin between a run out and one run.

People overplay the gaining an advantage part . If both teams are allowed to do it then it's not really gaining an advantage imo. IPL is really high intensity and high pressure and so some element of spirit of the game is needed . I am not a fan of everyone just pushing it to the edge to win

Yeah, it was a twattish move by Ashwin. Oh well.

Tbf Warne wasn't much of a cheater. A massive sledger, yes, but didn't do much cheating as far as I can recall.

Now if Steve Smith had come out after the game and said that...

Agree with the Upton comments.

When the camera went to him with about five hours to go, he looked like a man who'd just been told his house was on fire. Didn't inspire confidence at all.

The collapse after Buttler's dismissal certainly doesn't reflect well on him as a coach. Why wasn't he telling them to push the ones and twos rather than going for the boundaries? The run-rate wasn't particularly steep and they needed to regroup after the mankading stuff. Instead they just kept hitting it up in the air and getting caught on the rope.

Wasnt a young warne banned for something?
He was actually banned twice - for giving information to a bookie about pitch conditions and taking a banned substance.

Tbf it seems like he was just fecking stupid on both occasions. The people who played against him have nothing but praise for him, apart from saying that he was a massive sledger (like pretty much all the Aussies of that period).

Guess you can look on it either way though.

He didn't cheat to gain an advantage on the field or alter his own performance to affect the outcome of a game. So I'd suggest Smith's worse. But can see how people would see it that way.

Anyway, great game in prospect today. Chennai and Delhi were probably the two most impressive teams in phase 1.

CSK's win was more down to RCB shitting themselves as they have a habit of doing. They are terribly overaged (average age of 33!) and didn't make any change to the roster in the auction either. Delhi should win today.
