Murali Karthik, that guy had to be on the flight on merit. Our most experienced T20 bowler. The duds in the committee got it all wrong again!
Murali Karthik for Chawla, Irfan for Vinay Kumar.

We don't have a real quickie do we?, It would benefit us all the more. Don't think we'll win the event. The selection wasn't even of our best players. Since we don't have a domestic T20 competition i don't understand why the IPL can't be a selection tournament. Surely worth bowling more to Hayden and Gilchrist or facing Warne and Tait than Hardeep singh getting T.Suman out!!
Craziness.
I don't know enough about Vinay Kumar, but from what little I've seen of him, he doesn't look international quality. Irfan's a natural talent, that's why I put his name in there. Umesh Yadav looks quick, but so did Dinda in the first IPL(bowling at 140+) but then it's for 4 overs -- they go back to Ranji and bowl at 105.As an allrounder yes, but as a pure fast bowler Vinay Kumar is better than Irfan, have to say our pace bowling options are really limited. No good young fast bowler on the scene although that Umesh Yadav looks a good find(bowls at 140Kmph which is a rarity for Indian Bowlers)
On another hand Chennai Super Kings are suddenly looking a very good team with Vijay's unexpected resurgence and the arrival of Bollinger and Hussey. Mumbai Indians though are looking like different class from anyone else, apart from the usual suspects(Tendulkar, Malinga, Bhajji) Sourabh Tiwary has been impressive.
For some reason, I can't stand Kohli. Last match he was dancing in the dugout like a knobhead. Banglore's batting is insane, though. Especially today since they dropped Steyn and brought in Ross Taylor.
I think we can win the T20 world cup if all our players remain fit.
Sehwag, Gambhir, Raina, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Pathan, Jadeja, Harbhajan, Praveen Kumar, Zaheer, Nehra. Pretty damn good.
I know Kohli, he is my best friend's first cousin however he has always been arrogant.
Bangalore's batting is insane, two experienced pro who can anchor the innings like Dravid and Kallis, someone like Kohli and Pietersen who can both anchor the innings and play the big shots while some of world's best big hitters in Taylor, Uthappa and White.
I thought the same thing last year
I think they don't need Dravid on these flat Indian wickets. They've got plenty other batsmen who can anchor and do it at a faster rate. Not a lot of skill required. They should drop him and play a pure wicketkeeper(Goswami) or an extra bowler because Kallis seems to go for a lot of runs every match.
Yea, so did I but last year Sehwag got injured. He gives a platform like no other player. And Zaheer was injured, as well. And Dhoni kept promoting himself and played pathetically, he seems to have become faster at scoring
over the last 3 months.
I never knew Collingwood could play T20, I thought he'd be shit at it!
That was some crowd for the Delhi match. Has the redevelopment of the stadium been completed yet?
With Eden Gardens, its a totally different level. But for IPL, it was a good rapturous turnout. Not yet. The Eden Gardens is surely among one of the best grounds in world, the atmosphere it created during the last SA test was just amazing. I still remember that Kolkata test of 2001, class memories

I loved the chants going around yesterday!. Were you a part of it? That said, I'm getting a little more than peeved at watching IPL from the comfort of my sofa!, the ads are too bloody frequent and too bloody irritating. Plus the commentary Arrgh!
Yep. It really was awesome.
There were loads of Mumbai fans though(a lot of Chennai people supporting them because of Sachin)
They have ads there too, on the screens by the ground side(without audio). Not like the test matches when the screen just shows the scores.
Have you been to any match? If you haven't, you really should.. yesterday was the first time I went to an IPL match and the experience is great. I was sat in the new stands(the upper tiers) and the view is brilliant.
No need to act surprised mate, it happens in all of MI's matches. I, myself went to Delhi match against MI and ended up supporting Sachin instead of my home team.
It is not. City based loyalties are just not established for IPL yet. That takes plenty of time and genuine effort by the organisers/franchises to manifest it.
Though I support RCB, I would root for Sachin anyday. I couldn't even imagine about cricket without him.I'm not surprised. I just find it silly.
Oh the day, when we hate the guts off each other supporting the local franchises.
Sorry, the IPL doesn't stir the emotions of the masses like football does. You're never going to get a uproar in the city when Chennai beats Bangalore or vice versa!..
I can see this falling flat sometime in the near future!. Someone, somewhere would have already got bored of the DLF maximums, Citi Moments of Success, Karbonn Kaamal Catch!. Its a pity to hear commentators like Harsha Boghle utter such tripe on live television. The whole thing is set up on ads, the local support means bugger all to the teams, sadly. Its something than can be stroked into a very big fire of passion.
I know its a sort of a pipe dream, but i'd rather watch the match without the things mentioned above. The teams should get their home base and work towards getting the people to support them with a passion. That way, we'd get to listen less to "the Citi moments of success "
Couldn't have said it better myself. I can see it falling on its arse within 5 years.
I can't see that, the Franchises are making profilts, the stadiums are usually full and the ratings are good. IPL is in for a long haul whether we like it or not.
I support MI because, well, I'm from Mumbai.
IPL will not fall on its face. No chance. In fact, it will slowly start replacing international cricket, ie players will force their boards to keep a certain season free so that they can play in the IPL.
Dineros rule everything. Its the 2nd highest paying sports league in the world after the NBA.
I hate IPL and what it is doing to cricket, turning into a yank style sport. But the problem is the Indian upper-middle class market very much mirrors that of America. Loads of Indian take some sort of pride in the fact that BCCI is the richest and most powerful cricket body around and now IPL can become the best league in the cricket ala the Premiership or La Liga in football. No one in cricket community is also not against IPL now because it has helped a lot of Ranji class crickets to earn a good amount of money, i.e. equivalent of average footballers in England or Spain earning a lot.
Then it serves the international players as well. NZ players have already mentioned that their contracts with IPL franchises are more lucrative than their annual contracts with NZ board! You could actually see a situation develop where someone refuses a contract with his cricket board to exclusively sign with a IPL team. Though with Pawar becoming the president of ICC soon, it is unlikely to happen in coming years.
IPL is not going away anytime, if it does bust it will be after a decade at least.
It'll die a slow death starting from next season. Modi's not a visionary, he's an idiot who happens to be in the right place at the right time. None of his 'innovations'(strategic breaks, cheerleaders, the ridiculously over the top advertising) are actually intelligent, they're downright foolish. Next season he's introducing 2 more teams, IPL will start going down when that happens. The plan is to have 3 matches a day. Each team plays 18 matches. They won't be able to sustain interest. And Modi actually gave an interview about a year ago saying he wants to add more teams post 2011.
Even next year with 10 teams, the quality will get diluted. With 8 teams, there's just about enough local talent to keep the teams looking decent.. there won't be enough local talent for 10 teams.

They need to increase the duration of tournament otherwise it would not work. Playing it in two windows can also be a solution. Many said that People will lose interest in the IPL after it's first season, it hasn't happened, on the contrary it's Brand Value has increased. Next season with two new teams, I predict that it's gonna get bigger and better. I don't like what it's doing to cricket, but it has greatly improved the standards of domestic cricketers and international crickets of the smaller countries(NZ, WI)
The main thing is that they are still getting nearly full stadiums and great sponsorship deals as-well.
As for the Local Talent thing, I think the quota for foreign players will be increased to 5 players in a playing team to compensate for the lack of domestic talent.
Agree with you on Modi though, he is one of the biggest dicks present in World Cricket today, basically stole ICL's idea and then presented it as it's own.
BTW, did anyone read about Rajasthan Royal's deal with Middlesex, could be an interesting development that.
