Jairzinho (maybe I'm biased) not too far behind in the pecking order. Only player to score in every game of a tournament and he was simply phenomenal once garrincha stepped aside

Fontaine on his own is a bit of a gamble but the fact you got kopa with him makes it a superb choice.

Matthäus is logically the 1st Central Midfielder to be picked. Then, you have Xavi. No anomaly IMO
I think nobody is surprised by his choices I'm really surprised noone's picked the headstrong player yet. One of the best NT performances ever and is highly rated, but no takers yet?
There are at least 10 notable performances on the top of my mind that are easy sells. Depends on which positions people want to go after first.

But there are many as impressive NT performances to be fair, even if most of them weren't as prolific

Sure. There are also great defensive performances.
Maradona coming 3rd despite boasting the greatest tournament performance of all is the standout for me. Not that it hugely matters at the top end of the snake, they're all getting legends and it's more about personal preference about who and what you want to build.

@Downcast i just looked up Fontaine, some of those goals were against very strong teams so it's even more surprising he lasted as long, especially given that noone has come anywhere close in a single tournament.
