India's thunder down under - Tour 2014/15

If we can somehow hold out till Tea tomorrow we should be fine. From the little I watched this morning Lyon was bowing very well

Good stuff from India so far.

Are the Aussies bowling at full pelt or is it exhibiton stuff?
Johnson has been mediocre mostly. The rest have been marginally better.

Century on captaincy debut for Kohli. Very good batting but I hope there's more to come.

Not bad for a flat track bully.

Not bad for a flat track bully.

Well, he is playing on one of the flattest decks in the world..

EDIT: he is playing well obviously but Adelaide's hardly the ground to prove that you're not a flat track bully

Most games in Adelaide in the past 20 years have actually had results surprisingly.

It is a boring deck though.

Bad way to get out there though.

Still there's uneven bounce and if Australia can clean up India quickly tomorrow, they can push for the win. Still 200 overs left I think

Kohli has now centuries in NZ and SA along with two in Australia. He can score runs anywhere but he'll be always called a flat track bully just because he's ridiculous in ODI's.

He doesn't score big enough when he's in, that's his biggest problem in test matches. He's fine apart from that.

Out tail is bad in this one. I won't be surprised if we get out before 400. Need to make lunch though

What is the point of developing feather bed pitches such as these?

Also I seemed to have missed something, why isn't Dhoni playing?
Injured or balls deep in a match fixing scandal.

Decent lead for Australia. Could have been 20 or so more. If they can score 250 or so in 60 overs and set India around 325 in 100 overs, it can be setup fantastically for last day.

Varun Aaron brought on as 6th bowler after 31 overs bowled, after two part time bowlers in Vijay and Rohit. That's the fastest bowler in team. Granted there are rough patches on pitch but a new ball in test got to be used conventional way.
India's tactics in tests are horrible. Too much of ODI and T20 mindset and trying to do something unconventional every time. Test cricket doesn't work that way.

You really have to be on top of your game to get involved in sledging match with Aussies in Cricket. Otherwise it can go horribly wrong. Refer Zaheer's first over in '03 WC final. Hayden was laughing when Zaheer was attempting sledging in first over. Embarrassingly hilarious that was.

The run-rates in this game means that India is looking down a defeat here. I don't trust our batsmen to survive 100 overs on this pitch.

Can anyone who follows cricket regularly explain to me what happened to the, "best players for spin bowling"? Panesar, Ali, Lyon - all troble us these days and I wouldn't call them top quality spinners.

And when was the last time our spinning pitches produced a world class spinner? Bhajji was the last really good bowlers of spin, right?

That's because Varun Aaron is shit.

Warner being a WUM.
Now Watson getting into the act

Pretty much. It's getting heated now

Then he should be kept out. Also, having him bowling 6th is not because Kohli thought of him to be shit. It was more to do with trying to make use of rough with spinners. Or so I guess because I have not seen Aaron being that good with reverse swing and 31 over ball is anyway not for reverse. He is very erratic, but if he is chosen in side, least you can do is bowl him when he should be and then if he errs regularly, look for options.

I won't disagree with that. The selection has been shit. Karn Sharma looked garbage against Srilanka and yet has somehow managed squeeze his way into not only the squad but into the playing 11. Ashwin would have been a much better choice regardless of his record. As for Aaron, Dravid nailed it. He provides zero control to the captain with his bowling. Now, if he was regularly picking up wickets it wouldn't be an issue but he has a test average of 51:rolleyes:. Umesh Yadav isn't great but he's much better than Aaron.

Yadav, Bhuvi and Ishant would be my choice for pace trio. Bhuvi is injured, so Shami it is, though even Shami has largely disappointed on almost all overseas tours till now. He is becoming very predictable.

Australia have played this perfectly. Won't be surprised if they again declared overnight

Let Dhawan loose tomorrow morning. As soon as he gets out, (assuming he hasn't done something special) go into survival mode.

Would be a waste of a wicket. There's no way you can get 360 in a day on a 5th day pitch. This pitch isn't THAT flat. Not even Sehwag could help. Just not enough time.

He's going to get out cheaply anyway... Dhawan and Sharma should open!

I'd make a terrible test captain tbh. Would almost always go for glory.

The Aaron-Warner exchange

Aussies have set this up for a fantastic final day of Test cricket.

Edit: Also, Warner has been amazing ever since he punched Root. Credit to him for getting back in the Test side and establishing himself as one of the best batters right now.

98 overs to survive. Win looks unlikely option for India. Draw won't be that bad though.

India deserve those decisions for their dumb stance on DRS.

These Aussie commentators seem to be worse than I ever remember them. I like Mark Taylor and Richie Benaud (is he still commentating) and that's about it.

I really think Sky's cricket coverage is 2nd to none (don't know how it is in India).
