India Tour of South Africa

I don't get it.. Each of us could see that we need Rahane, as Dhawan,Rohit are going to be a walking wicket and we still see him dropped.. Not a single practice match as usual.. I don't know when we will start taking these tours seriously..

We didn't have to play that ODI against Srilanka,or the T20's against them.. More like we played them so that Kohli can have his honeymoon in peace..

Bowlers did well enough today, just need the batsmen to pull up their socks..

Rant over..

Yeah I’d have thought your team would’ve needed some practice matches to adjust to our pitches. Surprising.

It's a ridiculous 11

Bumrah, Dhawan and Pandya shouldn't be playing.

Ishant, Rahul and Rahane in their place. Pandya did well, but our Saha isn't good enough as a batsman to support just 5 specialist batsmen.

That SA bowling was tremendous to watch.

Anyone know where I can watch a decent highlights package online for this?

India hasn't a chance on this tour. Normally Newlands is the one where the sub continent sides put in an effort, but this time they've produced a wicket with pace, bounce and movement. Sunil should be this sides batting coach, word is back in them days he used to have innovative ways of preparing for fast bowling on quick tracks.

The best Indian test team I've seen (2007-11), which did well away and reached #1, tended to do well on the "worst" pitches.
They beat Aus at a bouncy WACA after losing at a flat(umpire-assisted) Sydney and moderate MCG, they beat SA at a very green Durban after being thrashed at a very flat Johanesburg pitch.
In general, they tended to do very badly in the 1st match (in England they barely escaped with a draw at Lords) and then improve. This trend was definitely more apparent than a drop on green pitches.

The team that reached #1 had Gambhir/Sehwag as openers and that started in maybe late 2008, but it was different from the 2007 team which had Kumble as captain, Irfan etc. Like this team, they were fantastic at home. When they traveled away, they were not good. Got smashed in Australia and England. Did competitively in SA.

I think this team has a better chance if they select right. This team's last travel in 2014/15 was competitive for a team which was very inexperienced.. I think this team is better than the 2009-11 Indian team if they make correct team selections. Kohli wants to win as well unlike Dhoni, who is one of the worst test captains ever.

Still hopeful on Rohit/Pujara for some weird reason

This is relentless stuff. All of them would walk in every other team in the world(maybe bar of the Aussies).

Keeping an eye on this series as Australia go to South Africa for a four test series in March. They've never beaten Australia in a test series in South Africa since readmission. This i think is their best chance and for many, it'll be their last chance. They'll have too much for India and win this series comfortably.

Think there isn't any team in the world who could stood up to this SA Bowling attack. Relentless.

India look as pathetic as ever. Bowlers let them down hugely and the batsmens woes continue.

Certainly not in SA conditions, really has been an impressive performance by them.

But like you said in the Cricket thread, it's pathetic how dominant the home sides are in almost every series & it makes them boring to watch.

Actually, Dravids India beat SA at JoBurg in 2005.
In 2007, Kumbles India beat England in England.
In 2008, Kumbles India should have drawn to Australia in Australia.

This team has nothing on Dhonis 2008-2011 team. Won in NZ, drew in SA, won in SL.

India till 2011 were one of the better touring teams around.

Philander has been superb.

Pandya is not hanging around India’s highest run scorer after 22 balls

De Villiers, Faf and De Kock did the same. Didn't bother trying to hang around too long in these conditions, and just cashed in to make as many as possible while they were there.

Manjrekar is such a clueless commentator. Apparently now Dale Steyn is a down to earth timid bowler who doesn't go about being aggressive when bowling rippers.
