India politics thread

thanks, i didnt know the IT cuts were effectively so little.

i dont support those moves but i know dhume was asking for corporate tax cuts and privatisation for years.
if i had to guess why the criticism: he doesnt want to acknowledge that his preferred economic policies havent raised spirits yet. and/or it is now the "correct opinion" internationally that modi has a big bad side - this wasn't the case earlier.. so he's always criticising.

Or you misread the budget

BJP are doing a congress here by not naming any candidate. I would be extremely shocked if they win this. Speaking of Congress, are they even in this. It seems there popularity is diminishing with every passing month.

I wouldn't be shocked if BJP manage to win decent number of seats, good enough to make AAP fall short of the numbers. BJP has puts its focus entirely on the anti-CAA and national pride rhetoric. Many on the fence voters may jump on to their side. And all the big leaders have come and gone door to door and that can definitely help. In India, voters don't really vote based on development and such things. Caste, religion, national pride and rhetoric are stronger motivations

Congress is dead. It has no leadership, no plans and is out of the equation pretty much everywhere, except a few places where their local leaders have a following. They are not even bothering to lend support to any anti-govt protests. Just some news bites here and there, but not enough to make anyone care.

I want to disagree with the bolded points but deep inside I know that is the truth. Although, I don't think BJP are winning it as not even fielding a candidate would backfire. AAP has a strong backing and BJP has not given any good reason to vote for them in Delhi. If it was a national election I would have agreed but I feel Kejriwal deserves another chance to continue his good work.

As for BJP it would be best for them and the country if they just regroup and start focusing on the development of the country first.

And as for congress they seriously need to get a new leager whose name is not Rahul or Priyanka or Sonia, in short no Gandhi. At this rate Modi led government will have 5 more years after 2024.

What good would that do to them or to the "unknown" sources that pour in 1000s of crores into BJP from "unknown" places.

Tigers Must Be Punished For Eating Cows Like Humans: Goa MLA
A tigress and three of her cubs were killed by five locals in Mahadayi Wildlife Sanctuary last month.

Panaji: Even as the issue of tiger killings was discussed in the Assembly on Wednesday, NCP MLA Churchill Alemao said tigers should be "punished" for eating cows when humans are punished for the same.

A tigress and three of her cubs were killed by five locals in Mahadayi Wildlife Sanctuary last month.

The issue was raised by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat through a calling attention motion on the floor of the House during the Assembly session on Wednesday.

"What is the punishment for a tiger when he eats a cow? When a human being eats cow, he is punished," he said. As far as wildlife is concerned, tigers are important but as far as human beings are concerned, cows are important," Alemao said.

The human angle in the entire episode should not be ignored, the MLA added.

Responding to the calling attention motion, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said locals had killed the tigers as the wild cats had attacked their livestock.

A compensation would be paid within three or four days to farmers who have lost their cattle to animal attacks, he added.

BJP MLA Shiladitya terms Netaji as ‘world’s biggest terrorist’

Former Assam minister Ardhendu Dey on Wednesday said he will take legal action against BJP’s Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev for allegedly terming Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as the ‘world’s biggest terrorist’.

Dey, who is also the Hojai District Congress Committee president, addressing a press conference at Hojai on Wednesday, said, “I condemn the statement of Hojai legislator Shiladitya Dev at Barpeta on January 25 where he termed freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as the world’s biggest terrorist.”

Dey said Shiladitya Dev also termed Bipin Chandra Pal and Khudiram Bose as extremists.

Congress leader Dey said the BJP MLA’s statement against the freedom fighters is an insult for every Indian and the Bengali community.

He also played a video in which MLA Dev is heard terming Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as the world’s biggest terrorist. “Why did he spoke such words? Who gave him the authority to disrespect the legends of our freedom struggle?” Dey questioned.

“During the British colonial rule, Netaji exhorted before every Indian ‘Give me blood, I will give you freedom’. Such a legendary figure he was and terming him as the world’s biggest terrorist by a BJP MLA is shameful, who also belongs to the same community.”

“I believe even Shiladitya Dev’s relatives will not accept such statements against iconic freedom fighters,” Dey added.

Dey said, “Bipin Chandra Pal was an Indian nationalist, writer, orator, social reformer and Indian independence movement activist, thousands of public used to gather to listen to his speeches. He was always in favour of the non-violent movement.”

He said, “Ekbar biday de Ma ghure ashi… is a song on the youngest martyr of the Indian Independence Movement, Khudiram Bose. Whenever this is sung, it brings tears in our eyes and words like terrorists against such freedom fighters by Dev, who is an educated MLA, are painful for us.”

“Today, we are feeling ashamed of MLA Shiladitya Dev,” Dey said adding that it is disappointing for the public who gathered in the function and clapped without understanding what their chief guest was speaking.

Dey further slammed Dev for creating disharmony in the society by his communal statements.

He said, “On many occasions, he targeted the Muslim community. But now he has even not left freedom fighters, Bengali Hindus and because of his activities, the top BJP leaders fear to make him a minister.”

The former Assam minister requested every Indian to vehemently protest against such comments and question BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev who gave him authority to disrespect great freedom fighters of the nation.

IDK if Congress has atually distanced themselves, but if they have, it is the correct thing.

One of the few judges with integrity and not corrupt (that's why he didn't make it to the supreme court!). He retired many years ago but is still looked upto in legal circles.
