India politics thread

Why would anyone even go to Ukraine to study in the first place? I didn't know there were any good universities there.

The cost of medical education in India is ridiculous. There are very few government seats, and the 'donation' needed to get into private universities is exhorbitant and out of reach for anyone apart from the top 1%. Compared to that, eastern Europe provides better education at a lesser cost and hence is an attractive destination for those wanting to study medicine.

Now ministers being sent to Ukraine's neighbours to facilitate Indian evacuation. Fair play, I think this is a good, inspired move.

Ukraine, even if it's going to remain a state will have undercurrents of resentment towards Indians.

PS: Certain medical colleges and universities in the UK are charging 50k Sterling a year tuition fees. That's 250k over a 5-year course plus add living expenses rent/food of 15/20k a year. It becomes very prohibitive for all except the elite.

The exact point I have made. There is a good article in Al Jazeera about the hypocrisy in the outrage. How mainstream media have said racist quotes. About blueyed Europeans getting killed. How they should open all borders for these refugees. Etc etc.
Look Russia should be condemned in every possible words but the hypocrisy of the same countries ( I make a difference between the public and them) is nauseating.
Where was the condemnation by FIFA, IOC etc when the USA and the UK bombed the Iraqis, Libyans to stone age? For what reason did they have to bomb and invade Iraq? For their oil.
Maybe all this may revive The Non Aligned Movement again and India can play the leading role again?

What were they saying?
In the first reel the guy comes in to say that there has been no help forthcoming, and the reporter tries to distance himself and get him out of frame while saying they are under pressure. The second reel has the reporter basically blame the students and their parents by saying they decided that they didnt want to leave Ukraine earlier when flights and everything was available to them and that staying there was important for them for some reason and then the reporter starts jerking off to the work done by the Indian Government Embassy in getting people to cross the border of Ukraine to Poland, Romania and that it is much better than what other governments have been able to manage.

Oh, it's propaganda

Poster reads "Indian Hindus are with Putin and Russia in establishing Soviet Russia. Jai Akhand Russia, Jai Bharat. Hindu Sena"

How to get these morons to stop? For some reason they love to align themselves with the oppressors, first during the Israeli conflict last year and now here.
It happens because they see our Dear Leader is aligned with the foreign party, whether it's Putin or Israel. Our media is also showing ridiculous fascination with the Putin image. Then the pea brains take over :D

In this particular case, it appears to be a very small minority, an isolated case.

See the right hand side of the image here @Bestie07. This is the kind of coverage Putin gets on some of our media. And that's why the fan following.

There also was an ‘I stand with Putin’ hashtag campaign being run yesterday, which was pretty similar to how other RW Twitter campaigns have been run. Essentially, our RW ecosystem will stand with anything as long as you’re the oppressor because the dream is to make Modi our Putin.

I was always hoping that eventually BJP would be out of power and we’ll go back to the (better) old days where we were still a democracy but our country seems to be a majority of hateful and apathetic people.

Has Modi spoke about what’s going on yet? Seems a lot of students being affected
Modi talked to Putin about the problems students are facing. Putin used the news as PR and declared that Ukraine is holding Indian students as hostages.

Most recently, basically what @RedDevil@84 said.

Our approach as usual has been reactive. Advisories to students to get out came only after shit hit the fan and been playing catch up since then. Most of the government, Modi included, has been caught up in election campaigning which is obviously more important :wenger:

Amusing but quite embarrassing from the host. Are they not meant to be impartial?

So much whataboutism at the moment. pretty difficult to stomach
Typical prime time TV 'debate' over here. The host sets the agenda and the 'debate' is only allowed to follow the agenda. A shouting match for most parts.

Talking about elections, I haven't heard a peep out of UP. What's the news?

crappy posted some nice links in the previous pages.
It's possible BJP will lose, but not likely.
They're winning on law+order, free rations, and Hindutva. They're losing on unemployment, especially govt jobs not being recruited. Also some caste issues and farmers' issues.
SP is the only party with the chance to beat them.

It will be SP BJP defo in top two. Remarkably, BJP's cow politics might be the reason they lose. Almost every single rural interview has framers complaining about stray cattle. If they win then it will be similar to Nitish's win in Bihar where direct benefit to women voters played a critical role.

Saw a report where BJP workers have allegedly forcibly inked fingers of several people to ensure they don't vote.

What's funny is that they've also given cash to those people - seemingly they don't trust people to vote for BJP even after being paid off :D

Think they'll still comfortably win majority though.
