See for me, it’s not about supporting another team, at this point my problem is with the owners and the board, things like, them not hiring a real director of football, instead they hired a banker to take care of everything and it seems like the successor will be another clueless puppet, them not showing any ambitions and satisfied with top 4 finish, allowing things to get this bad this season that supporters are turning on a club legend, and dividing the fanbase, hiring PR guys to push certain narratives, trying to push the “United way” instead of actually looking for solutions, not trying to hire managers like Conte for example because the would want certain amount of control (if reports to be believed, which I can see a truth in that). There are many more reasons to dislike the owners.
If I stop watching United, I would stop watching football (except for international football and CL finals).

I don’t want us to lose like some on here. I’ll never be ‘done’ with the team as I’ll still watch the games but I’m a little numb to it at this point. At this point though, I’m no longer surprised when we lose so I’m not letting the dross ruin my weekends or evenings.

I could never bring myself to wanting us to lose, so it creates a horrendous paradox of knowing losing is probably best for the club and players, yet you watch and obviously desperately want them to win.

That’s why I booked in work for the derby and Liverpool, so I could check the result afterwards and at least think “feck me, well at least they’ll sack his arse now and it’ll be best for everyone”.

You call it strange, but no, burning shit won’t help. The lack of interest in tickets during the final weeks of Moyes, LVG and Mou certainly did though. Early season ticket renewals were at their lowest in years pre the LVG sacking, and feck me you could barely find a ticket once Mourinho was confirmed. That's sadly a big part of how this club is run now.

Once the board see interest in the club is waning, they act fecking sharpish. New signings, change of manager etc are a sure fire way of rejuvenating that interest.

Not even bothering with the next match is a logical step forward. It’s not fun and I’m not a masochist. The loyal Old Trafford support isn’t doing anything for the players. They preferred playing behind closed doors.

Here here. Support for the club is unconditional. Every match I’m watching hoping for a win. Every season I’m hoping for silverware. When we lose I’m pissed, when we win I’m happy. Doesn’t mean I have to like the owners or the regime. The two things are not the same. Manchester United is not the Glazers and the Glazers are not Manchester United.

This is me. Regardless of what my last post in this thread said. I've just learned to manage my emotions and dissociate after matches. I tend to only let it affect me for like an hour each side of whatever result.

I've been watching us with a morbid fascination at how low we can sink lately. Right now we're definitely playing the worst football we've played post-Fergie or at least it feels that way. Maybe it's being made to seem worse because of how irritatingly good City, Liverpool and Chelsea are right now.

It's both. We've definitely gone through worse intentional football before this current patch under previous managers. But at least then it looked like it was to a plan. Currently management and players can't sort themselves out while our rivals are in the ascendancy. It would have been much better if this was 2018/19 when we knew 3rd/4th was the best we could get and that's what we did.

This season had high expectations and so the current malaise feels worse than under LVG and Mourinho. I would count it similar to the Moyes season where he took the champions to midtable.

Yeah what’s normally different is those teams don’t have amazing players. Liverpool had a crap team and ok managers whole going through their slump. And they competed with much better ones. We have the team to compete but not the manager. So our decline is entirely self inflicted. Not just a cycle.

It means I will no longer plan my weekends around our games. It means I will no longer have any Man Utd related news on my social feed or news feed. It means I will no longer have any expectations for our games - whether we win or draw or lose no longer affects me emotionally (I barely felt anything watching us conduct a rondo training session with City). It means I am completely indifferent to whatever happens to the club in the short term, because when you look at things from a long term perspective, it's completely fecked anyway. Any short term progress we made will be completely wiped out by Glazer's incompetence, and that is why I am no longer emotionally invested in this club.

When relegation fodders have much higher standards than our club, when our owners only care about sucking the club dry, when the manager is as deluded as a rambling drug addict, when the players are complaining about the manager yet the club doesn't give a feck, you know it's time to check out.
