If ten Hag was sacked tonight, who would you have as an interim?

The thing is, the manager shouldn't matter that much any more. The guys above the manager are now the ones that should be shaping the squad, so they have to answer to them. ETH or whoever will simply be their coach going forwards.

Of course the manager matters. Otherwise the job wouldn't exist. The people above will be shaping the squad in tandem with the manager, whoever they may be, but they aren't the ones picking the team. If the players know that Ten Hag is gone, they'll no longer feel the need to listen to him or do the running for him, that can only be a bad thing. Wait until the end of the season, and announce any decision then after we've given it our best go.

Are we blaming the manager for almost losing a game from 3-0 up after 71 minutes ?

At some point we are going to have to accept most of this squad have never really been that good for United to succeed.

He's not blameless. I mean, come on

There will be some sort of clear out over the next few months and seasons but we need a coach that can imprint his ideas on a squad from day 1.

Screw interims, we need a manager that will last more than 2-3 years in this pemanent anarchy state, and make actual sense out of it.

If the decision is already made then just announcing it now would probably be enough to give the fans a lift, and the players fully focused on making an impression for the next manager.

In summary, no one, just let Ten Hag see it out.

Yes, it's called game management. He's terrible at it, you're terrible at reading it.

Ideally Sir Alex. Realistically, Ole or Mourinho. We need someone who has experience of getting one over Pep in a final. So that would probably tip it in Jose's favour.

It's more likely they just tune Ten Hag out and phone it in until pre-season.

The only right answer. Peps krypotonite

His setup vs City is also how Madrid approached their tie against them, for example, just with better players and a bit more organization.

Dortmund in 2021 also studied our approach vs City before their quarter-final tie against them.

It’s the only way to beat them - Jose figured them out nearly 15 years ago! But I bet we go toe to toe with 5 fit players, a bunch of kids and the donut formation.

Their future will not be decided by ETH anyway, regardless of who picks the team. We've all got eyes and can see where the issues lie, there's no way Ineos and their guys are going to let them get away with it and the players should know this. If not, it should be made clear to them anyway.

Probably Jose as he absolutely hates Pep. He knows how to win a cup final. But lets face facts. We are stuck with Ten Hag now for the rest of the season and are going to get humiliated by Abu Dhabi Fc. Think the smartest thing InEOs could do is start by making a list of managers who can finally turn this club around. Ole or Jose coming back as fun as it might sound in our heads isn’t happening.

The manager is usually the one to take the blame when the team looks terribly unorganized and lost out there, yes.

We have one game of significance left. Get Ole back to do Pep in one more time.

I agree with all of the Ole shouts. Interim only obviously.

We would likely have another 'new manager bounce', a few of these sulky underperforming players will probably pull their finger out for a few weeks, and let's not forget that Ole's head to head record vs Pep is very good.

It's 6 or 7 games - what's the risk? I feel like one of the only reasons people don't want to bring him in is because they're worried about the ridicule it will generate from our rival fans bantering us. Either that or they're still angry at him for that 5-0 loss to Liverpool.

He clearly is not suited for clutch matches, especially finals. Why bring him back specifically for a final?

What you said isn't based on much other than 1 final that we arguably should've won even without our best defender available

Ten Hag should have the chance to see out a cup final. We have feck all to play for until then. Treat every match as a training session to prepare for the City game.

He will. Whether he goes or not, I'm not too fussed about either outcome at the moment, but the call should be made by the people who Ratcliffe is in the process of hiring to run the club for him. That's why I don't get people calling for ETH's immediate dismissal. We've been crying out for footballing people making the footballing decisions for years. Ratcliffe and Brailsford shouldn't be making them. It's not like the season isn't over, anyways.

Yeah it's bizarre to mention that. He bottled the only final he played, against a ragtag Villareal side. He also couldn't beat Pep when it mattered. If we absolutely had to go for an interim I would pick him, just because he done ok before, knows the club etc. Getting an interim in April isn't going to happen, though.

Have you actually just gone and posted "everyone is stupid except me" without a hint of irony?
No? I didn't mention my own intellect at all, and there are some intelligent posters on here.

Thank goodness we have a man of your great intellect and footballing knowledge around to steer us away from the idea of appointing Al Pacino, Joe Kinnear or God. Those posters should and no doubt will be embarrassed.
Cheers mate

This squad isn’t good enough but they’re better than throwing away a 3-0 lead against Coventry and almost losing through extra time.

Erik ten Hag is a fecking fraud and he’s absolutely not good enough either.

Both can and are simultaneously true.

If Ten Hag is the manager then he'll still have a huge say in their future, as would any other manager. The guys above the manager aren't going to get rid of a key player that the manager depends on.

You can't fight human nature, we've seen it time and again that when a manager announces they're leaving player levels dip, even slightly, and it costs them. Liverpool this season are a great example.

Lvg, how could he turn down the chance for second fa cup final win.

Seriously a lot of managers would love to manage us right even short term basis considering they get an fa cup final on a plate for them, mourinho would probably love it to win another trophy he can boast about whilst defeating pep at the same time.

Our current manager lost 7-0 to Liverpool.
