Of course the manager matters. Otherwise the job wouldn't exist. The people above will be shaping the squad in tandem with the manager, whoever they may be, but they aren't the ones picking the team. If the players know that Ten Hag is gone, they'll no longer feel the need to listen to him or do the running for him, that can only be a bad thing. Wait until the end of the season, and announce any decision then after we've given it our best go.

If we absolutely had to go for an interim I would pick him, just because he done ok before, knows the club etc. Getting an interim in April isn't going to happen, though.

You can't fight human nature, we've seen it time and again that when a manager announces they're leaving player levels dip, even slightly, and it costs them. Liverpool this season are a great example.
