The People's President
Great or not we were desperate to sell and they still managed to generate decent transfer fees. If we bought Kaka...he'd be at the back end of his career and more than likely be sold on a free in a few years time. £22m would be a massive waste of cash without factoring his wages and age. I agree with Raoul, I'd rather spunk that type of cash on young talent. Resale value is important for a club like United...we're not lucky enough to be bankrolled by a Russian oligarch or an oil rich sheikh. But if he were to come on the cheap...then yes, of course - but I doubt he'd take a pay cut and I'd even more surprised if Real sold him on the cheap. This transfer aside, who gives a feck about resale value. Look at the top 5 players we've sold during Fergie's time. Didn't get great money for Beckham or Ruud. Veron was let go cheaper than what we got him for. Ronaldo is the only one that we've sold for proper money.
Resale value shouldn't matter at all. Especially not for a fan who's not in charge of accounting for Manchester United Football Club.
