Isco is the best on that list /controversial opinion.

They're not going to offer us anylne, why would they? De Gea's contract expires next Summer anyway and they'd likely be his prefered destination if we work under assumption that he wants to go. They would be under no pressure whatsoever to price him away from us this year, he is very young and could for free next year. £30m is the absolute maximum they might offer.

How highly are you guys valuing De Gea with a year left on his contract?

How about a buy one and get one free offer?

If they give us,

Varane they get Evans and jones
bale they get Valencia and nani
modric they get Anderson and fletcher
carvajal they get rafa and Valencia (again)
benzema they get Falcao and RVP

Then they can have De Gea for free. Good deal no?

If they made sure to pay a good bit extra on top, I'd take Casillas.

It's pathetic how much each of those options would dramatically improve our team.

Modric given the choice of those 4. Unfortunately that's about as likely as Ronaldo.

Obviously want to keep De Gea above all, but of the options in the poll:

1. Varane
2. Isco
3. Modric
4. Bale

Varane is what we need; Isco is a muppet signing; Modric is class but I'd have concerns about his attitude if he were to join us from Madrid, and then Bale is Bale.

Bale then Isco.

Bale would put in 20+ goals from out wide, can't say no to that

Bale. No matter what system we play, there will be room for a player like him. He is a match winner.

Isco is my choice, I think he's the most technically gifted player in the game and if he was made more of a main man he'd excel even further. He's also pretty versatile and could play in a midfield 3 or off the left of a front 3. His pace and strength have went up a notch this season so I don't think the PL would be too much for him.

Modric, best CM we could get at this moment. Isco would be my second choice, just beautiful to watch him play.

Isco, plus some serious cash. I really don't want our pants pulled down and a good bumming as part of this deal like we normally get.

Varane would sort our backline for 10 years, as much as I rate Bale/Modric/Isco we need to start building a side from the back.

It's tough to decide because they're all quality, but I'd probably have to go for Bale. Pacy winger with great goal scoring ability & general productivity, still fairly young, proven in the EPL, and as a bonus, he's British.

Ideally De Gea should say, but that's not the thread subject. :)

So if push comes to shove with De Gea and either him or Mendes have their eyes set on Madrid, I'd take Varane out of their current lot on top of maybe €25-30 million. Gianluigi Buffon transferred to Juventus for €51 million way back in 2001 and De Gea is fast approaching his level at Parma. So basically we should stand firm and extract good value of the deal (provided he signs an extension otherwise Madrid might ask him to see the last year out).

Varane might be not be as sexy of a choice as Bale, but considering his youth, stature in the game and room for development still, he has the chance to be the best defender in the world for the next decade. We could add all the elite attacking players in the world but as long as the defense isn't bordering on world class or atleast close to it, there'll always be cause for concern. Defense is the bedrock of a championship winning team. Someone like Varane would go a long way in terms of remedying that area and become one of the fixtures in the back-line alongside Shaw if he develops as projected, and maybe even Rojo who is improving all the time and adjusting to the English game.

Bit of a tangent but I wouldn't sign a top shelf replacement for De Gea. Valdes is more than capable of playing at a good level for the near future. Instead we might be better served snapping up someone like Alphonse Areola from PSG or even Loris Karius from Mainz. Both of them are really good talents, should be relatively cheap and keepers are generally not averse to being understudies at the top-top clubs. Sit them for a couple of seasons and then you have a good, young-ish choice for the foreseeable future.

Off the €30 million received via Madrid, I'd activate Reus' buyout clause and pay him €10,000 per week more than whatever Madrid or Bayern or whomever are willing to pay. Net Varane + Reus + good young keeper of the future = Profit.

Bale, if Modric wasn't 29 i would have chose him.

Crazy, 'Swaps' when do they really happen ? don't want Dave to go, if there is a person to start building a team around, its with our number 1
DDG - DGD (Don't Go Dave)

Why wouldn't you? He's superb.
Hadn't seen much of him until this year, he's excellent, the work rate and technical ability of the lad was a huge surprise to me. He covered every blade of grass at Anfield this season and was very tidy indeed.
I'd see him at my club in a heartbeat.

Another attacking midfielder? We need a CB or a winger more. Bale would be a far better signing.

He'd be your best attacking midfielder though. Or at least second depending on how highly you rate Di María. Versatile too, he can play from out wide even if not as a winger.

I'd play Di Maria as the attacking midfielder. We badly need a CB and a pacy winger. It'd be Varane or Bale for me.

Fair enough. Isco is brilliant but preferring to strengthen other positions is logical too.

Isco would be a brilliant signing but I think the only player we will be after is Bale if De Gea moves to Madrid.
