If as has been rumoured Rooney wishes to leave United for Chelsea...

Would a swap deal involving Mata gain your support despite Chelsea being a domestic rival?

A little muppetry for Moyes Friday. ;)

Please specify an additional cash sum if applicable.

Rooney +15m please. Would be very happy as Mata would be an equal to Nani

There's absolutely no chance of us getting Mata.

Mata for Rooney? Not a chance of it happening, but why wouldn't you swap a superior, younger footballer, for an older, inferior one? Domestic rival or not, we'd be getting the better deal. I'd probably give them £10m/£15m too.

Another Rooney thread...

And yeah a Mata/Rooney swap is obviously very likely to happen:rolleyes:

£15m plus Rooney for Mata? your surely having a laugh.

Rooney+15mil for Mata? You think Chelsea are run by retards?

And Mata would be a big upgrade on Nani. No equality there. Nani at his best is his equal in quality but Mata produces the good on a much more regular level.

EDIT- Dont think I got you right. You mean Rooney+15mil for Mata or Mata+15mil for Rooney?

I say no.

Chelsea has been missing a proper goalscoring striker since Drogba left and we know first hand Rooney could be that guy for them. As shown with Cavani these players are expensive and hard to come by and there are considerably more wide forwards and #10's around who could fill Mata's or Hazard's boots, but their inability to find a world class center forward will hurt them and therefore will help us.

If this weren't the case, I'd jump at the chance to offload Rooney for Mata or Hazard though.

who do you have in mind ?

well if we got Mata + 15m, that great. Mata replaces Nani (assume we get 8m for him). So we then have 23m + Glazer money for another new player, depending what Motes wants.

If we sell Rooney, I don't think we need another striker.

So on top off the the money already budgeted for a Thiago type plate, take your pick.

30M will buy us another fantastic new midfielder or winer or help pay for Bale or Ronaldo!

I would give Chelsea Rooney plus £15m. In return we'd get Mata. Not sure what's strange about that. You've obviously watched little of Mata and Rooney this season. The difference in class is becoming a gulf. I think Rooney's about two and a half years older than Mata. When both are playing at their best they're very hard to separate. I'd say you could make a real case for Rooney being better. But when did Rooney last play at his best?

According to the papers Chelsea want Rooney and Jose wants to get rid of Mata.

Yeah, well, according to the papers Moyes wants Messi. Maybe I should create a Rooney/Messi swap thread

Did not know Nani was in the equation... you seem long winded!

Messi to United to bollocks whereas Rooney to Chelsea is a possibility.

I don't see it as a possibility. The club won't sell one if it's best players to Chelsea and it's a position Chelsea need strengthening in.

Rooney is being judged a lot on last season though, a year where he's played 2-3 different positions and sacrificed his game a lot for the sake of the team. An in form Rooney is a much better player than Mata without a doubt, the key is getting his form back and playing him in a proper position.

Think I misinterpreted sammsky. Rooney+15mil for Mata seems fair but its not a deal I'd do. I thought he means 15mil+Mata for Rooney which would be absurd.

Not really.

I would take Mata in a heart beat, 3 years younger and we get another spaniard!

Rooney on top form is one of the best players in Europe. fecking hell people are acting like he's shit.

If anyone thinks Mata is worth £15m less than Rooney at the moment then they need their head checked. We'd probably have to pay them some extra money if we wanted Mata considering how good he was last season in comparison to Rooney. He'd be a massive improvement on Nani as well.

WTF - So Moyes proclaims in his first presser that Rooney isn't for sale and suddenly there's a thread discussing a hypothetical transfer to Chelsea ?

As is Mata. The crucial differences are that Mata was sublime last year, while Rooney was fairly average by his standards. Rooney is rumoured to want out, whereas Mata seems content at Chelsea. While Rooney was dropped for a crucial match last year and is no longer our most important player, Mata is Chelsea's best player and is pivotal to them.

No one is stating he is shit, your comment was just absurd because he really isn't a much better player than Mata - who has been one of the best players in the league in the last 2 seasons.

Yeah in his favoured position.
He's had a shit season but people forget he's played out of position for a chunk of it (in the biggest games I might add) and he obviously wasn't happy for the last few months. There's reasons why he wasn't at his best but when he's on form he's easily one of the best players in the league and along with RvP is by far our best player. People all of a sudden talk like he's shit. If he stays and gets on with playing for us at the level we know he can play id take him over Mata everyday of the week.

No one is talking as if he is shit. The simple fact is that when he's off the back of an average season, there's nothing to suggest he's better than Mata at the moment. Being put on a similar level to Juan Mata, one of the league's best player, is hardly an insult.

There are -maybe- 6 better strikers than rooney playing the game.

One of them is his teammate.

Yes and Mata's not a striker. That's the point am making. If we're talking of a pure creator playing behind the striker and running games, Mata's better than Rooney or atleast has been of late.

Second time you've said this. The thread is discussing a hypothetical scenario where he's being swapped for Mata not Heskey. He doesnt have to be shit for people to want to do the deal as the other player in question is top drawer too. No one's saying he's shit but that Mata is as good a player now if not better, specially in a traditional number 10 role.

I personally think Mata's a better no 10 than Rooney but I still wouldnt do a direct swap because I think players of Rooney's ilk are tougher to find.

Bit of a stupid thread really. If Rooney is to leave for Chelsea, they're buying him to improve their squad so swapping him for one of their best players seems a bit counter productive to that.

Shit really, I didn't realize that.

Its not so much the straight swap deal between the 2 that bothers me it's when people are talking about adding £15m along with Rooney (who's worth between 30-35m easily) making Mata's value reach around the £50m mark. Not a fecking chance he's worth anywhere near that figure.
