This is the game where a ball is thrown at some sticks? And we won? Who'd we beat?
the pakistani green bears in overtime.

Good for us.the pakistani green bears in overtime.
Woohoo! As a card carrying American (literally at one time), I claim victory.Good for us.
Their team is a Pakistan/India/West Indies B Team, so yea.agreed. when you’re playing titans of cricket, like the states, then you need those fine margins to go your way.
Even for a B team, should they have beaten us regardless?Their team is a Pakistan/India/West Indies B Team, so yea.

I've already rearranged my morning on the 12th. to check out my first full cricket match on TV. Looks like we play India, how do you think we will fare?Yeah, he's joking.
It's a bit like Spain beating Japan at baseball on the basis of having a bunch of random Latin American dudes who are eligible for the team and nowhere near good enough to get into the squad of their home countries.

India always turn up in the big tournies, so I wouldn't hope for much. Main thing is - if you beat Ireland, you're through to the QFs.I've already rearranged my morning on the 12th. to check out my first full cricket match on TV. Looks like we play India, how do you think we will fare?
Why would not being an American make you sad?
It's usually been the case over the years for many of the Associate nations to have plenty of foreign players who qualify through residency / second or third generation links, etc.Yeah, he's joking.

I'm American and watch cricket.
Me too (technically, anyway). Best sport ever invented.I'm American and watch cricket.

Are you indian heritage? It's after football for me but still pretty amazing.Me too (technically, anyway). Best sport ever invented.
No, I'm actually from Manchester originally. England, Lancashire and United fan. Been a dual citizen for nearly 30 years though. Are you indian heritage? It's after football for me but still pretty amazing.
I keep forgetting The English love their cricket too. A lot of the Americans with Pakistani heritage are torn at the moment. I live 20 minutes from the new Long Island stadium so I'm in the middle of all the drama. A lot of Pakistani fans paid thousands of dollars to go see the game and they are currently shook. I'm originally from the West Indies and that's who I support but I might have to consider supporting the US now as well. I only found out about a week ago that the US had a team! No, I'm actually from Manchester originally. England, Lancashire and United fan. Been a dual citizen for nearly 30 years though.
Now a US cricket fan as well.
I've no connections to America, but have always wanted to see Football (Soccer) take off there - and the same with Cricket now.I'm American and watch cricket.
I guess that's what you get for telling the Americans to stick to baseball.
I know! What are the odds!?Embarrassing loss. Pakistan seem to be involved in a ridiculous upset in almost every major tournament.

Must’ve missed it, unless you’re talking about the David catch? Otherwise which wicket was it? I’ll try and search for it
It's already started, Major League Cricket is up and running and the Austrailian captain Pat Cummins hs signed a 4 year deal with San Franciso, I can see T20 and the like being very popular but 'proper' cricket has no chance, Americans can't understand/deal with the fact that a multi-day contest might not have a winner at the endToo funny, obviously baseball will always reign supreme in the US but two things that will continue to be true are that Indian American community will continue to grow and have influence/money so the game may carve out a niche here after all.
"Proper" cricket is not even "proper" cricket any more. ODI and T20 have definitely had an influence on the way test cricket is played. It's getting more and unusual these days to not get a result over the 5 days unless there's weather involved. Scoring is a lot faster than it used to be and in many cases basic technique has gone "out the window." Basically, what you've got is 5 ODIs stitched together to make a test match. I know a lot of people don't like it, but I miss the "grinders" who'll really work to make a score. That's why I admire Steven Smith so much. He is possibly the best test batsman I've ever seen and in today's day and age that is quite something. It's already started, Major League Cricket is up and running and the Austrailian captain Pat Cummins hs signed a 4 year deal with San Franciso, I can see T20 and the like being very popular but 'proper' cricket has no chance, Americans can't understand/deal with the fact that a multi-day contest might not have a winner at the end

It depends what you want out of the game. You can't argue that test matches finish a lot quicker than they used to and I don't think that's because the bowling has suddenly got so much better. This is not just about England and "Bazball" this is about technique and some of the stupid shots that are now attempted that really don't belong in test cricket. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss the "Boycott's" of this world. He was a terrible team mate, extremely selfish etc...but if you wanted someone to hold up an end to scrape a draw, there was no one better. Winning and losing (for me) is not the be all and end all of the game. Some of the most exciting conclusions I've seen to a test match involve 7-8 men round the bat with 9 wickets down on the 5th day with 1/2 hour to go. One team going for the win and the other (usually us) trying to survive. It still happens of course but it's getting rarer and rarer every day.Give over - test cricket is in a fantastic state regarding how it is played. You have modern greats like Joe Root and Steve Smith, alongside dashers like Pant and Crawley - while the traditional blockers like Brathwaite and Elgar still have merit.
Your idea of it seems to be based off England folding in a heap for 120 off 35 overs a few times. We've always done that, it just used to take longer.
Wow, stunner! The one to get out Maxwell. Stunning catch.

Darn, I thought England vs Aussies was today. Got all set up to watch and it's tomorrow. Double darn.I'm not trying to be curmudgeonly about test cricket. I like watching both T20 and ODI. I think they're both exciting formats of the game but i do think they've had a massive influence on how test cricket is now played.
Anyway, enough. I don't want to derail the thread. Roll on tomorrow. England vs Australia, can't wait!

Well good. It's all Willow's fault. It's got SA vs Netherlands listed as on the 7th, and England vs Australia on the 8th. We'll since I'm currently watching SA vs Netherlands, I put 2 and 2 together and obviously made 5.It’s in 2 hours per cricinfo
