ICC T20 World Cup 2024

England misread the pitch, tried to reign it back in the middle overs but it was too late, the target was too big. No idea why Jacks was given an over at the start and why Curran didn’t play instead of Jordan. And maybe Topley as well. Need some luck to get through now but the middle order is playing poorly. Players picked either out of form or who haven’t played in a while.

England only have themselves to blame. Quite a high possibility they won’t make the next round given Scotland and Australia play each other at the final match.

The usual teams all look off colour.

This usually means Australia will win it

Only saw the first hour or so of the England match but that was enough to know that Australia were going to end up well over par. Thought Zampa's comments after were interesting and hint towards some possible issues - "I think they were under the pump and it showed. Our leadership isn't like that, they are very calm."

Hopefully Oman can at least run Scotland close today, a win would obviously be ideal but keeping their NRR down would be okay.

El clasico of Asia today. I'll say Pakistan for an unexpected win. What are the odds of that happening?

How come IND and PAK are always in the same group. Do ICC accept that they are the ones deciding the group instead of a draw?

At least in ODI world cups that wasn't always the case. When they were both put in piss easy groups in 2007, both of them ended up getting eliminated right away and cost the tournament most of the viewers.

The T20 World Cup happens too often for me to remember to how often they're placed together at the group stage. They do seem to face off pretty much every tournament.

Guess it's to ensure that there is an India Pak world cup match which after the finals would be the game which gets the most eyeballs.
Isn't the viewership of this fixture always higher than the final itself?

This World Cup was openly not a draw. The ICC literally picked the groups. Cricket is a weird sport.

Wow. But how does that work? It changes the whole dynamics of the tournament as you can plan certain teams to avoid each other/give a team an easier route to the final.

It’s rigged but I don’t think it matters. There are usually about 5 good teams and the winner has to usually get past the other 4.

ICC ensures india pak are guaranteed to play. But I haven’t really seen india have an easier draw. This time for example india get into the tougher super 8 group if things go as usual.

No chance we beat India, despite the presenters trying to convince us otherwise.

Failure to make the Super-8s means Pakistan will have to go through the qualifiers for the next T20 WC. Will serve them right for the shambles of the captaincy situation & recent performances heading into this WC.

For his sake, i hope Azam Khan isn't playing. There will be a deluge of memes.

They’re taking their catches :wenger:

Massive early wickets. Good start.

Can't see Pakistan chasing anything over 150 on this unless Babar or Rizwan plays an all timer.

Interesting choice to bring in a spinner, and that Iftikhar too.

India have been piss lucky so far. How has Amir not taken two wickets atleast
