ICC T20 World Cup 2022

England making hard work out of that one. NRR only +0.62 when it should really have been more.

Malan's figures were abysmal. Livingstone's the only batsman who comes away with any sort of credit.

Also not sure in the long run if there is any point in having both Stokes and Woakes in the bowling unit.

That was a good watch.

Really? Would have imagined it would have been dreadful for a neutral particularly after Curran got all his wickets. England were always going to win and never looked like they weren't going to win but kept doing just enough to suggest they may drag it out for the entire 120 balls.

I like watching the Afghans play, particularly with the ball. They have an energy about them, a bit like the Windies, which I enjoy watching.

The game result wasn’t in doubt though.

Seems like much better pitches than the atrocity served last year.

Can we erase the 2021 T20WC from the history books?

Let’s be honest, there’s no point in having Stokes in a T20 team. If not for his heroics in the other formats he wouldn’t get a look in.

Depends; he is bowling a lot more than I had expected to be fair and has done well enough there. If they can’t trust either Moeen or Livingstone to bowl then Stokes’ bowling becomes essential.

I mean, with the amount of batters and Sam Curran in the side you can easily replace him with Tymal Mills who then improves your bowling, with a specialist at the death to boot to help Curran a bit.

Perth pretty empty for the England game.

Game v Aussies a 95k sell out next week though
I didn't even realise we were hosting a game. This is the problem when the thing isn't shown on free to air, you get hardly any traction with the general public as unless they are already following and paying for whoever streams the cricket very little is actually said about the tournament.

If Stokes is bowling so much I’d have Mills or Jordan in ahead of Woakes though. I don’t think Stokes is that much worse than Hales or Malan and he definitely is a much better fielder than either of them.

Well then you can bring Jordan in for Stokes and improve both bowling and fielding.

Personally I’d have Salt in over Hales anyway but Jos wants to keep for some reason, which I find daft when he’s captain but it is what it is. Malan had a superb season and usually performs for England so I can’t really complain at him keeping his spot.

But is Jordan’s bowling that much better than Stokes to warrant the drop in batting? I think England’s best strategy is to play a top 7 with 4 front line bowlers, allowing the batsman to have the freedom to go out and bat knowing there’s a plethora to come. Beyond Wood and maybe Curran, the rest are a bit of muchness in Australia.

I get Stokes has barely played T20 for the last few years but I think he does add a lot overall.

I’d ask if there’s even much of a drop in batting bringing Jordan in for Stokes to be honest. In a longer format, sure, but in T20?

Personally I’d say you probably gain because I rate Curran above Stokes in T20 batting stakes

I’d say there is for sure. He’s ahead of both Jordan and Curran in the batting stakes. I don’t think you could really rely on either in the top 7 if you have a pressured chase.

I wouldn’t want to rely on Stokes in the top 7 in a t20 either. When was his last good knock in the format? Maybe an IPL game 4 years ago?

Probably but then he’s barely played the format in the last 4 years. I guess that’s the difference, besides Buttler and Livingstone I don’t think any of the other batters are that much better than Stokes at this level.

Think we’re 20 runs short but considering how that innings started, it at least gives the bowlers something.

Decent comeback by Pakistan but feel India should win this. Kudos to Arshdeep. Seems a good find for India.
