ICC T20 World Cup 2022

England have avoided, so far, that complete disaster over that can terminally change the momentum.

England bring on the catching specialist Jordan to close out the game!

RRR at 10 already and with the wasteman Kane at the crease. Congrats England.

Williamson would fit in with the Indian and Pakistani white-ball lineups. Selfish consolidator who is not going to win you tournaments.

Just to put it in context, if you took Kane out, NZ needed 140 off 80 balls. Very unrealistic on these big grounds.

Could do with winning this by 20-25 if we're going to be greedy for NRR.

The fact it's a big ground makes it even worse because an accumulator like him should be able to time the ball and run 2-3s regularly with big gaps everywhere. If he played 40 balls with any sort of intent he would've had 55-60 runs which probably would've been enough.

Group A is shaping out well. It's all down to NRR now. Aussie have to play out of skin against Afghanistan now. NZ are surely in top 2 unless Ireland do the unthinkable.

My prediction it will be NZ and Eng going through.

Haven't checked the weather but assuming any remaining games in this group aren't washed out, you'd have to fancy NZ and Eng to make it. Any win for NZ against Ire will surely be enough thanks to their superior NRR. Aus have a way easier fixture than Eng imo, especially with Rashid Khan likely out. But Aus would still need win by like 70 runs and then hope SL manage to take Eng down to the wire.

The big advantage England have is playing last so they'll know exactly what they need. Also playing last will mean SL are already eliminated. If it was the first game they'd still have an outside chance of qualifying.

Those runs Australia let Ireland score after cleaning up their top order is likely to be the reason they'll get knocked out.

The format of the World Cup (just like the last one) is really bad for a format with such high variance

I agree, although this is exacerbated by the nature of T20. Not having reserve days for missed fixtures is the main issue, especially given the time of year this tournament has to be played.

Really hope we don't get any more cancellations, especially with Group A being so finely poised - is there a forecast yet for what expect weather-wise?

Assuming there are no shock results & weather does not interfere, it looks like NZ & England will qualify from Group 1.

I wouldn’t mind a NZ v SA final.

I know we all have a soft spot for NZ but I rather see England or Australia v SA (If India gets knocked out)than see a boring side with boring brand of cricket (Williamson) in the final.

I may be harsh on NZ but not sure I am fan of their cricket especially t20. But again full marks to them for always being their in the final or semis.

As mentioned on many occasions though, that’s a non starter. It just isn’t feasible at all.

It would be a fascinating contest to see who can throw it away most

That close to 100 runs defeat against NZ is the reason they will get eliminated. Just need to employ some brains there and target something like 160 once they had lost first 4 wickets.

I think format is good on paper. Problem is the glue between top 5-6 sides and the others. If likes of SRL, Bangla and WI were genuine contenders then groups will much closer and each game would have impact. As it is, it turns out a triangular contest for top 3 sides in each group with side show of avoiding a slip up against lesser sides.

Bavuma vs Williamson. I know I'll have my popcorn ready. ;)

Typical of them, won't surprise me if they smash South Africa tomorrow

They are not smashing SA.

I am expecting KL to channel Kane and try and score a 30 off 40 balls to get back in “form”.

Would love to see a t20 lineup of KL, Rizwan, Babar, Kane - every match will be 140/2 irrespective of conditions.

Add in Kartik as 'finisher'

KL 8* off 13 after first 3 overs. Looking good to replicate Kane here.

50 off 31 now ha

And then out next ball

Its still a problem though. India are wasting the easiest/most run heavy part of the innings on playing him in. A 20 off 10 is more valuable in the powerplays

Kohli does his share bit of pressuring the refs, doesn't he? Would that have been a no if Kohli hadn't appealed?
Playing the game ha

Yeah I get you. Maybe that gives him confidence for the next game

Now Dinesh karthik....

Always fascinates me when new batsman come in and get out in weird ways rather than just taking a single to get the form player back on strike
