Yep, England batting first in a night game probably need 170+ to beat Pakistan in particular.
I'm hoping that's the final.
I'd fancy England to beat anybody chasing, and that includes any target bar something ridiculous.
Yes I do, that’s why I said some intent. Didn’t expect India to come out and smash New Zealand like they did Scotland but letting the likes of Satner and Sodhi just bowl to them like Warne and Murali was bad. Fair enough the opposition is on top but intent isn’t just boundaries but urgency, rotation of strike and turning ones into twos to put some pressure back on them.
agree with this - lot of hyperbole from comms on TV as if the only thing that changed was India's approach. It's the opposition and it remains to be seen if India can do that against decent teams.
India are not 110 level bad irrespective of who the bowling attack is. I will even say Pak bowled and fielded better than NZ and yet we scored 150. We just were pathetic against NZ.
Post I was replying to claimed India couldn't make up NRR deficit because they chose to field. Your example isn't that relevant to the point I'm making. I've already acknowledged that batting first gives you a higher NRR in theory. But this isn't theory. Firstly, India's aim wasn't to get the highest possible NRR, their aim was to get their NRR higher than Afg and NZ. And their NRR wasn't that bad that they at all costs needed to bat first to make up the deficit. What they needed was either win each game by a 60+ runs margin, or each game by a 6-7 overs to spare margin.
This is a tournament where it is easier to chase than defend so no surprises they went down the chasing route. And they've been vindicated with the outcome today. On these low scoring pitches it's way harder to score high and restrict low than to restrict low and chase fast.

And then possibly one of England, South Africa and Australia out despite winning 4/5 games.
Doesn't matter though. The bowling opposition here is club level at best facing pros at the top of the food chain. 150th best batsman in India would have tonked them.
If this happens it would mean Afghanistan would have beat New Zealand which would be insane on its own
I don’t know why people are expecting NZ to lose to Afghanistan. I know strange things have happened in sport but this one is just highly unlikely.

Afghanistan play a yolo brand of cricket, especially the batting. You just never know.

Fml, this has been a disastrous tournament for us. I love Gayle but I love Ambrose more and ever since he mouthed about universe boss against sir curtly, this was done for us.
It has been a disaster that you could have seen was always very possible, but what can you do? Every team has crappy tournaments every now and then. Just hope we rebuild well.
