ICC T20 World Cup 2021

Reckon Namibia will have just a couple more fans today rooting for them today..

NZ in a spot of bother.

Erasmus with a broken finger bowls 1/22! Enforced a runnout too.

Good score for NZ. Should be enough but Namibia should also have some confidence from how they batted v Pakistan.

Namibia still with a bit of hope to chase this down…

Fairly comfortable win in the end for NZ. Should boost their NRR too.

Both Namibia and Scotland have competed far better in this WC than the likes of Bangladesh have.

And this is Namibia's debut tournament too.

They needed to restrict Namibia to 90 for the NRR to have any relevance. When that didn't happen it made no difference if they won by 1 or 52 runs.

Ah, okay. Hadn't looked up the numbers. So NZ must win vs AFG to qualify.

I started to slag off this tournament a bit earlier in the week but it really is getting worse.

Terrible format, terrible scheduling - largely terrible games.

Semi's and final will be decent ofcourse, but this has not exactly caught the publics imagination in England atleast. And we are flying!

Same here in India, though losing to Pakistan first up didn't help!

What was with Mark Nicholas interrupting Jadeja there? Came across rude.

From cricinfo:

Our stats man Rajesh says India need to chase in 8.5 overs to go past NZ's net run rate, and in 7.1 overs to go past Afghanistan's.

They have to overtake Afghanistan's, but they have 2 games to do this(this and the next).

Get it in 8-10 and should be fine.

Absolute waste of time having Scotland and Namibia here. You can add Bangladesh to that too.

The small teams are vindicating ICC's decision to keep them out of the WC tbh..

I think maybe the solution is for the big teams to play the small teams more often outside of the world cups to enable their growth, but make the world cup more exclusive. Or change the format so that there are fewer dead rubbers.

The game format of T20 itself is good, and between competitive sides is fine. I think a super 6 sort of stage with the top 6 teams would've been great to watch.

Completely agree.

I'm all for the development of smaller nations, but why do we only do it in showpiece tournaments?

The 'pre-tournament' was fine, but only need 1 x qualifier from each group.

They needed to bat first. Chasing down a small target doesn't do much

Not sure why this myth exists.

In theory batting first will give you a higher NRR if you hit all 120 balls for six and bowl out the opposition for 0, than if you bowl out the opposition for 0 and chase it with 119 balls to spare. But those are pure unrealistic fantasy scenarios. In normal scenarios like the one today, chasing down a target at rapid rate will do your NRR the world of good.

At least Namibia put up a fight. Scotland are utterly useless.

It's not a myth. The NRR is calculated on a cumulative weighted basis. If you score at 10 RPO for 20 overs, that's 120 balls added to the denominator and 200 runs to the numerator. If you chase 80 runs in 8 overs, despite it being the same run rate(10 RPO), it adds 10 RPO only for 48 balls, and that makes a smaller difference to your overall.

However, the bowlers have done such a good job today that the NRR will get impacted, but for literally the same diference in run rate in the same match, doing it batting first vs second will give a better yield.

Just shows you the top 2 don't always have to play like wankers
Especially when you have deadly hitting capability. We were never 110 level bad. It was such a disappointing performance against NZ.

Just hope Afghanistan don't bother turning up on Sunday against NZ like against India.
