ICC T20 World Cup 2021

I used to think the IPL would lead to India being some brutally consistent t20 cricket Country.

For atleast one tournament that's looking like it's not going to be true.

Why can they turn it on in the IPL? easier bowlers?
They don't turn it on regularly even in IPL. It's a known fact Jadeja is an ordinary bowler even in IPL. Pandya has been below par even in IPL this season, Rahul is just a flat track bully. Rohit Kohli has been off form even in IPL. Even our bowlers barring bumrah haven't been that great in IPL.

Kishan
Shaw
Kohli
SKY
Pant
Pandya
Jadeja

That's the top 7 I'd like to see. It might fail and get skittled out for nothing (like the current lot do anyways) but it'd be fun when it takes off.

It's only 110 but the field should be far more attacking? maybe to save run rate if AGH beat NZ? today though it's strange really feels like no fight from India. I thought once Rohit got dropped they would go on to hit at least 140/50+

If you had given us 50 overs to bat or more then 140 was possible.

India absolutely battered twice in a row. Didn't see that coming.

Excellent from NZ. The NZ v Afghanistan game probably decides who gets through now.

NZ really have India's number in Global tournaments don't they? Clinical stuff.

This is India's 2007 ODI WC moment. Change of captaincy and some senior guys need to be kicked out.
The following 5 years were incredible as an Indian cricket fan. Don't see the next dhoni in this team. I think IPL is another big issue where players don't get any rest. BCCI is only interested in money. Some tough decision required.

IPL is massively overhyped. What people don't take into account is that there are only 4 overseas players per team and most of those are usually batsmen. At best you'll have have a couple of high class bowlers per team, the rest are cannon fodders. You don't get that kind of respite at tournaments against high class bowling lineups.

We definitely have a lot of fresh blood like we did back then that can straight away get into the team. Need to move on from Kohli Rohit etc in T20.

Agreed -- it's also why there are fewer close games in World Cup. 5 international bowlers means you can't pick and choose your targets against the better sides.

India on the verge of exit.

NZ v Afg could be interesting.

Just too much pressure is put on them by so-called fans. The trolling and abuse from the fans after the Pakistan defeat was horrific.

Indian batsmen are playing without the freedom we generally associate with these players. Fear of losing is the issue.

It would be great to see Afghanistan go through to be honest. That country goes through so much. It would be nice for the people to have some small thing to be happy about in the midst of all that’s gone on in the last few months.

Pressure is always there if you want to represent India. Problem is most of them don't care because they are all getting great money from IPL and advertisement. This indian team was without any preparations required for an ICC event.

Of course, they care enormously.

India had the best preparation out of all the teams by being used to the conditions and they had a few weeks rest prior to the start of the tournament.

What a performance by India, I genuinely have no words. Heads will roll now but the BCCI should definitely get some of the blame for the schedule over the last year

India been an absolute shambles this World Cup. 2 games played and completely outplayed in both. Only taken 2 wickets from a potential 20. They might as well start packing their bags. I’ve never seen 11 overs of T20 cricket without a single boundary.

The team selection is horrific. We are still going with tried and tested instead of giving young performing players a chance to shine. That's exactly how we won the first T20 World Cup. On that occasion, the selection was a fluke as BCCI selected a second string team as they weren't taking the tournament seriously. That became a blessing in disguise.

Rohit and Kohli should retire from T20s and focus on tests and ODIs. Among our fast bowlers, only Bumbrah is effective in T20s. Shami is not a T20 bowler.

Correct, but what might actually happen is Rohit be made captain and things actually get worse.

The lack of planning by Indian selectors and management is bemusing. Back in March Kohli at the England series said he and Rohit will open only for those two to play at number 3 and number 4 today. Ashwin who has never been selected in LOI format since 2017 suddenly gets picked and then doesn't get to play. Pandya who cannot bowl is playing as a pure batter when his form has been bang average. Shami and Bhuvi who have been below par in t20 are selected instead of young bowlers.

People talk about IPL and blame it, well none of the IPL performers who had an amazing IPL were selected. Harshal patel was the highest wicket taker and is not selected, chahal found his form and not selected. Gaikwad had an amazing season for CSK but not selected. Avesh khan had an amazing IPL and not selected.

I feel the selectors were not bold and just went for safer option. Good thing for us is the next WC is next year so we can fix the mess. However for that drastic measures have to be taken. I would be bold and drop both rohit and Kohli from t20. Build a young side who can take us forward with a different mentality.

It's too easy to be critical after the event. If India selected youngsters and they failed it would also have been criticised.

The Indian side on paper is still an excellent side although still bemused by Pandya playing when 5 bowlers already in the team. Thought it would be better playing a batsmen.

Not heard of him before this but can Indian fans explain why Varun Chakaravathy was selected? Did he have a good IPL?

He's very good in the IPL for a couple of seasons now.

I'm inclined on believing this is correct, one week to reflect on the performance and it was not even identical, it was worse.

Performances here or the outcome of this tournament is not going to have any bearing on their IPL contracts or commercial deals, on the contrary, most of these players will be making more money in the next IPL, and even more after that when the new TV deal is made. It becomes really hard to give a shit in this situation, especially when you're playing too much cricket, living in bubbles, all the travelling. The hunger is gone and there isn't enough mental energy to bring that to the table.

England to set a target then, do we know if this is a decent wicket? Be great to see us go big if so, really make a statement.

Sri Lanka have the advantage of having already played in Sharjah, could see an upset here
