ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

Lot of credit to New Zealand for staying in the game till the 44th over. Indian team was just too strong today in batting and bowling. The fielding and extras a bit questionable

Yes agreed with this.
Wasnt as 'one sided' as many thought it would be. Good effort by NZ, but such a strong showing from India especially at bat.

NZ did incredibly well.. if their bowlers had restricted India to about 360-370, this wouldve been a classic..

Who deserves Man of the Match?? Personally Shami for picking up key wickets. All top 5 batsmen

I mean this was a very easy wicket to bat on, incredibly well is a significant stretch. Definitely better to be the chasing team on this wicket but India just too good today.

Shami the WC goat? Why didn't he start the WC - he could've broken Starcs record the way he's going.

He should've started in 2019 too

The biggest difference between 2019 and 2023 is that India is playing Shami who is arguably the best WC bowler India has ever produced and Rohit has become extremely unselfish.

The rest of the team has the same faults - Kohli will bat for milestones, Bumrah will be be wayward in knockouts, Kuldeep and Jadeja can’t control the crunch situations.

If he had another WC in him, he wouldve been the highest wicket taker easily.. his WC record is unreal.. just hasnt played enough games.

Shamis wicket over that took Williamson and Latham, Kuldeep and Bumrahs 3 overs flipped this game for India again.

That'd be Jay Shah taking care of the pitches..

Kohli wasn't selfish in 2019 tbf. He was unselfish captain - same as Rohit is.

If India played him in all the games in 2019 and 2023 he'd have it already

Brilliant performance. 7-57 any time is a special feat but against NZ in semis is unreal achievement.

Spot on.

No but some of us were calling for it. A lot weren’t.

The fact that Shami has only played 99 ODI matches despite his ridiculous S/R of 25 is extremely disappointing.

And we also did terribly taking so long to give Gill a consistent leash in ODI cricket.

If Rohit's not playing the way he is, we aren't winning any of this. Being 2 down and having a batter 29 off 45 in over 20 heaps pressure on. Rohit's giving us the starts that allow for a lot of tactical flexibility in the middle.

The other thing is also Rohit the captain. In another world(and this world is not far away) where Rohit is not captain, one/multiple/all of Kuldeep, Siraj, KL, Shami aren't playing this world cup, Shreyas gets dropped mid tournament.

In the last game, Rohit was asked post-match "Your backing of Shreyas has resulted in him repaying the faith with runs?" and Rohit replied saying "Even if he was failing now, I'd still back him". I enjoyed that answer.

Just like how Gambhir is (rarely) spoken of for (what is, in my opinion) the most important knock played by an Indian in the last few decades in WC 2011, Rohit's contribution to this WC has been understated. As someone who has woken up at odd hours - and sometimes not so odd hours - to see various players from Michael Clarke, Amla, Alastair Cook to Sam Curran beat us to a bloody pulp in away tours, getting to a WC final is great. Yes, the format is dying, but it's still a WC. I hope we win this.
