ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

Doesn't look like Iyer cares as much about 400 as the fans seem to, or maybe it's his elbow. Good practice for the middle order out there today, though, Rahul especially.

Edit: As I say that, he hits two out of the ground.

How the feck is everyone in form?

peaking too early.

you want to be doing what england did and getting all your bad results out of the way in the group stage. we’ll fly through the knockouts now.

Probably been India's poorest bowling/fielding performance of the tournament so far.

So India have switched out the pitch for the upcoming semifinal without the ICC permission.
Seems sporting

I doubt this is true. India have the best pace attack in the world cup. It works against us to prepare a turner

Kuldeep has been average

The only time in a year I'm this anxious before a game is when United visit Anfield.
I'm shitting it as well, no doubt.

Agree with you, though i guess we don't want to bat second under lights either, given the help for pacers.

Whoever wins the toss should bat first and that's 80% game done.

One one chases down a score of 270-325 at this stadium and with the added pressure of knockout. I say New Zealand have as much chance and will score for fun against Jadeja and Kuldeep.

Oh it's today!

I can't see this being close but understand why the Indian lads in here are nervous anyway.

I expect the other semi final and whoever plays India in the final to be a cracker though.

Kane Williamson tore his ACL, got fit through the WC, broke his thumb, and is back in a semi final. Just cannot keep him away

Hope we send the cnut packing today

I hope its not true, I hope its a load of bollocks but its been reported quite heavily in Australia which is how we found out about it.
I cant imagine India even has to contemplate this, they are significantly better than we are and should win this semi final without breaking a sweat.

Bcci are definitely stupid enough to do something like this. But news tends to get sensationalised when it’s the bcci as well. We will find out I guess

If choosing to bat first came with some sort of run penalty, how much would be a fair amount and for it have to be to made it an interesting game? 20...30? 50?!

Toss just has too much bearing on results. I remember a T20 world cup which Australia won primarily due to winning every toss. Semi finals or finals should have some other feature than just toss.

Why should it come with a run penalty?

Statistically you are more likely to win a game (I think its 5%) batting first in an ODI.

It feels like more in this WC (because of India and SA) but I haven't checked the stats.

The last 3 world cup finals have been won by the chasing team

Technically you could argue that NZ ended up being the chasing team as they batted second in the Super Over.

Really depends on the situation - rain interrupted games favour the chasing team.

The toss is probably more significant though - anyone know how often the toss winning team wins?

Personally I'd get rid of the toss. The higher ranked/seeded team should always bat first in LO cricket. That stops the farce of the Asia cup final.
