ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

What about Andy Roberts or Malcom Marshall, the 2 greatest fast bowlers to ever walk this planet? The Windies sides of the 70’s & 80’s dominated all forms cricket like no other team has before or since so any cricket XI should include at least 2 or 3 of the great lengendary Windies quickies. Im still traumatized from watching the Windies sides in my youth terrorize batsman.

You can certainly make a case for either of them, Marshall more so and certainly if they had played more they would have dominated odi cricket too.

Only considering fast bowlers you have the likes of wasim, waqar,McGrath,Ambrose,Donald and even the likes of hadlee, imran who you can include.

Given the options, I personally think players who performed at the top for a longer period of time should get a preference.

Malcom Marshall, for example, not only bowled 90mph he also swung the ball like Jimmy Anderson. AND he could bat as well.

Garner deserves a mention in one day cricket...more so than Andy Roberts. Suppose folk can only pick players they've seen or followed. Then there's natural bias for players from your own country.

He swung the ball both ways later on in his career. At his peak his was probably the greatest fast bowler ever. That said Holding was faster..and perhaps even better to watch. Great bowlers, shame they (WI) don't have a conveyor belt anymore....

Joel ‘Big Bird’ Garner’s yorkers are things legends are made out of.

Most of us would pick Malcolm Marshall as the first name fast bowler. Think most of us were restricting ourselves to 90s and later. But yeah, in an open universe, we would have Marshall, McGrath, Wasim, Holding and maybe Ambrose as a universe to pick from. Same as Viv would be a shoo in for nos 3 and Greenidge as an opener.

You can see the draft thread to see that m

Okay lads let's get back to CWC2019 now.

So what do we make of this weekend's big fixture?

Reckon Afghanistan might edge it.

So we're starting to see glimpses of who the semi finalists will be. Think the current top 4 are signifcantly better than the rest. I can't really see anyone else breaking into it but I guess you never know.

Probably will haunt me but I'm not convinced NZ are actually that good.

Their next 3 games are all '6 pointers' against SA, Pak, and WI and then they round off with England and Aus. They've played all the easy teams so far and managed to make their wins look relatively tricky. It's not beyond the realms of possiblity they drop out.

Day 17: Australia vs Sri Lanka | Afghanistan vs South Africa
Sad to watch Malinga these days. Out of breath by the time he reaches the crease and barely clocks 80 mph.

I understand your "fears" - they've played all the rubbish teams and eased past them. I'd say it could quite possibly be between them and Pakistan if the latter learn to catch any time soon.

So, at the end of today, Australia would have completed their 5th game whilst India have completed 2.

India played Australia at the same ground and chose to bat , pitch was absolutely flat and after playing out the new ball they got a big score. No idea why Sri Lanka thought bowling first was a good idea

It's been catching teams out all tournament. A bit overcast and a bit of grass and teams think they can nip out early wickets.

Then again, this is another example of a team winning the toss and bowling poorly hard to judge whether it's a good idea or not when bowlers fail to put it in the right areas.

Australia going in one bowler short and then Warner batting as if they are a batsman short is just bizarre

A lot of teams prefer to chase anyway though. Eng, WI and NZ seem to bowl first whatever the conditions. Not sure why but sure there's a reason behind it.

They seem to have a lack of firepower in the middle order. But you could say that about Australia and India too.

Good side. Wouldn't have Inzi though. He'd be a liability in the field today. Maybe stick Buttler in and shift De Villiers up one?

Inzi out. Perhaps Saqlain in. Can't think of a better one day spinner. At his peak he was the best limited over bower around. His average is only 21. Impressive.

Because they think the pitch in't going to change (or if it is it's going to get easier to bat on) so it's easier to find boundaries at the end of the game than it is to defend them.

That's not necessarily why teams have been bowling this week though.

Really do think umpires should have to say why they've given it not out.

I don't believe for a second that that was given not out because of the impact.

I absolutely adored Saqi (was probably the one bowler I tried to model myself on the most), but his longevity (or lack thereof) is what held me back from including him

Just get rid of umpire's call altogether. Either you're out or you're not out.

Ah I didn't realise it was for the modern day, in that case your suggestion works, but then Inzi in the slips was a very safe pair of hands... On the other hand, his running between the wickets might have the team 30-2 after 5 overs

On impact and pitching absolutely. They're absolutes and don't rely on predictive technology. It makes sense to cover the margin of error in the system on hitting the stumps though.

Looks like he’s put on a bit of timber, wasn’t that good in the IPL for MI until the final over of the competition

Warner playing another dog shit innings. What the hell?

Just watching the weather forecast. Seems unlikely we'd have a full match tomorrow.
