Feels like fielding in general, the standards in world cricket have dropped by quite a bit.
I may be wrong, of course. I remember when we (SA) were the gold standard in terms of fielding.

I know it is only 227 to chase but that is a brilliant run chase by India. That spell by Rabada could be one of the best spells that India faces this WC and the way Rohit, Kohli, Rahul and even DHoni soaked the pressure and complete the job is magnificent. Good day at the office for the team. Australia would be a far bigger challenge. Should be a cracking match that one.

It's kind of sad to see S.A this way tbh. What a team they were in the 90's and 2000's. Hope they become a dominant force again. Would be good for the game. Who can ever forget the days when South Africa and Australia were the top dogs by far and would go head to head in those epic games.
Very easy win. Rabada and Bumrah showed exactly why they're the best. I feel a little more confident in ourselves, we've got a great bowling attack with so much variation.

South Africa was always the team when it came to top class fielding. Rhodes wasn't the only one. It always felt like world class fielding was just ingrained in South African cricket culture. I don't know what has happened. Other teams have certainly caught up and proteas haven't been that great at all.
IIRC even KP stood out in the field during his early days and jokes were made about how it is because of his origin

Aye, I'm sort of on the same thinking as you. As I said in my post I can't really put my finger (or facts!) on it, but it's just a perception I have. We were always brilliant in the field. Even post Jonty.
I'm also not sure what's happened. Maybe a bit of brain/talent drain, of skills. Just producing an overall lower talent pool? Maybe the quota system. Who knows.
Faf dropped the ball when Rohit slowed down in late 90s and Dhoni was just trodding along. Should have brought on Rabada then and put even more pressure on us. If Rabada takes a wicket then then it could have initiated some panic. But instead he brought on that pedestrian spinner after that. Odd

Sakib instead of Moeen Ali and England would be devastating.
Dhoni needs at least 30-40 balls to get going in ODIs. Given the same, he should bat at 4. But the team also do not want to expose him to early seaming conditions so it is about working around his limitations.
Even if India's middle/lower order is weaker, Kohli will always make that batting line up stronger if not the strongest in the tournament. Maybe "line up" is the wrong word but he adds a lot to the team.
Bangala just need to get these two out before 25th over mark and they will win the match I reckon.

Yes, we are uber dependent on Kohili (& Rohit). There is zero chance we can win this WC without Kohli in ace form.
