Oh gosh, there was one replay showing a south african in the back cheering arms wide. I wish they showed the whole thing cos I wanted to see his reaction realising it was dropped.
Are you going back to the times of Jonty Rhodes? now he could catch.Feels like fielding in general, the standards in world cricket have dropped by quite a bit.
I may be wrong, of course. I remember when we (SA) were the gold standard in terms of fielding.
I probably am, budAre you going back to the times of Jonty Rhodes? now he could catch.
I probably am, bud
But I'd say even a period after that, I'm sure we were always very, very good in the field.
I could be way off, of course. It's just my perception. And nostalgia always seem to "enhance" things from the past, favorably.
Aye, I'm sort of on the same thinking as you. As I said in my post I can't really put my finger (or facts!) on it, but it's just a perception I have. We were always brilliant in the field. Even post Jonty.South Africa was always the team when it came to top class fielding. Rhodes wasn't the only one. It always felt like world class fielding was just ingrained in South African cricket culture. I don't know what has happened. Other teams have certainly caught up and proteas haven't been that great at all.
IIRC even KP stood out in the field during his early days and jokes were made about how it is because of his origin
Shakib Is the best all rounder!
If he gets out, this is going to put a lot of pressure on the other 3.
When I said at the top this is our best 11 - I should not have.. Dhoni doesn't feature in it, but has made himself indispensable because we didn't try anyone else for 2 years.
We'll win this game 98 out of 100 times but this innings should be judged in isolation - and it has been wank.
Feels weird to see an Indian team where the bowling unit is much better than batting one.
It could have been more recently as well. I must admit that I haven't watched as much cricket over the last decade as I did when I was younger.I probably am, bud

Even if India's middle/lower order is weaker, Kohli will always make that batting line up stronger if not the strongest in the tournament. Maybe "line up" is the wrong word but he adds a lot to the team.
Said it on r/cricket but didn't go down too wellSakib instead of Moeen Ali and England would be devastating.
