ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

Because we have ties to two nations. In my case Bangladesh and England.

Its not the military it's a sport. Who cares who anyone supporters and flip flops. Besides , nothing wrong with having a secondary team

I support the West Indians even though I dont have a drop of WI blood in me... except maybe in the right places. :p

Im not saying you cant support another national team. What i am saying is that if you've gone to a foreign country for better prospects and that foreign nation has taken you in (or your parents) then you should support that nation first. Here it is quite the opposite, the immigrants who've gotten citizenship of britain/england are supporting India/pakistan/bangladesh/sri lanka against england in england. Well anyway everyone is free to do whatever they want but i think supporting the country that has taken you in would be a decent thing to do.

Im supporting new zealand for the final.

 why can't they support whoever they like?

 I guess pakistanis can support both (in any order of precedence) since pakistan allows for dual citizenship

Most 1st and 2nd generation immigrants identify with their ethnic origin ahead of their nationality. There's likely a plethora of reasons for that. How "English" we are made to feel plays a large part for me. Integration has probably gone in the wrong direction in recent years.

Good comeback, I feel so embarrassed now. Woe is us, we allow dual citizenship. It's amazing a grown man thinks this way.

Erm no it's a sport. Theres no decent thing to do here. Support whoever you want. If I'm living in Aus but find English players more fun I'll support them

People take this too seriously

Brilliant promo. Sad India are not part of the final but all the best to Both NZ and Eng. Whoever wins will absolutely deserve it.

I thought england is ahead in multiculturalism than others in the west.

But what was the fecking point of the group stage? /s

Why were all those indian/pakistani descent british citizens supporting england when they weren't earlier on ?

They shouldn't be supporting India/pakistan against england. Flip flops

It may feel like that for millennials and 3rd Generation Brit Asians. But the generation that grew up in 80s and 90s had a different context and grew up in UK as children of desi born parents who taught them what they instinctively knew and the love they had for their birth nation and culture.

The 2nd generation of any migrant lineage is always conflicted between the culture of their forefathers and birth. I think it’s been the same since time immemorial across the planet.

Within a UK context the following links might help give you some context and insight:

 As always, you never cease to amaze me with your ignorance, bhai.

To a lot of us, England have always been our second team, since we were brought up here but our first team was always back home because our parents are/were passionate supporters.

I don't watch anywhere near as much cricket as I used to 10-15 years ago but back in the days when England were on free TV, I'd always try to watch them and support them, the Ashes in 2005 being the high point.

It's a shame we're not 100% true desi like you. :smirk:

Look at the support police on here. “We took you in so you should support our teams!”

Thank God for that. What a childish thing to get upset over but it is vida. Probably another way for him to prove his Indian ness.

Buttler has had a quiet world cup - the best white ball player going into the tournament.

If it was at Edgbaston or Trent Bridge I'd be very very confident.

Our record at Lords is shite which is a big worry.

I'll say I'm cautiously optimistic.

Yeah supposedly a Green pitch tomorrow which will significantly aid New Zealand.

On the other hand NZ's openers have been poor alp tournament. For Guptill if he can finally come to the party they'll be so much better off but Archer and Wood will fancy themselves to get rid early on and get Kane in with a rebuilding job.

The ticket scenario from what I've heard is a farce. Basically a lot of the tickets Indian fans bought in advance were bought on resale (so already at an inflated price). Therefore shifting them on again is pretty tricky because there are England/NZ fans wanting tickets but tickets bought through third parties cannot be sold back to the ICC. And as I said these tickets were bought at an inflated price. What do you do? Should just turn up and pick a side to support (biggest game in this country since 2005, FTA for the first time since 2005...empty seats :nervous:), or to give one Eng/NZ fan a chance to witness their team play even if it means a slight loss? Oh and then you have some that are pricing theirs so high if it were any other business it'd be looked at as a con.
