Overall that was a really pleasing performance, not collapsing under the pressure despite losing key wickets which we’ve seen so many times before. Decent bowling and great in the field. Professional turn out.
Nice one!Wasn't this England batting line up supposed to be feared?
Knew it would come back to bite him in the butt.Nice one!
A terrible batting performance by us doesn't change Englands rather average batting performance.Nice one!

Is this a joke ? 311 is hardly rather average
You should've watched it happen. They looked on their way to 360 but completely lost momentum in their innings. Is this a joke ? 311 is hardly rather average
Guys like 6"2,/6"3, built like a mini tank, fast as feck, has incredible reactions yet plays cricket. He could probably play a multitude of sports at a professional level.
Ben Stokes shouldn't be a cricketer. Earlier, I think they had him down sprinting at 28kmph which, considering was over just 20 yards, is quite quick. I don't think he's particularly great at bowling or batting but his athleticism is incredible. Weird he chose cricket as his sport.
They were not looking to get anywhere near 360. As per Root's mid innings interview, they were looking for 310-330. It was not an absolute flat wicket to be fair. Slower balls were gripping and the wicket was a bit sticky. England reached 311 due to some smart batting and very poor bowling from SA's 3rd and 5th/6th bowling options. You should've watched it happen. They looked on their way to 360 but completely lost momentum in their innings.

That's harsh. Cant remember the exact numbers but he averages around 50 with a strike of 90. I'd say hes surrounded by a bunch of average players. AB aside, the rest of their team hasnt impressed in ODIs.
Definitely. The batsmen can't get 400 every game, we're going to have to rely on our bowlers sometimes too.Funnily enough getting a ‘par’ score and winning that with their bowling is probably better for England’s long term psyche this tournament than smashing a 400 score this game.
It is, but that's kind of the point. We're talking about great players, and I just don't think he has that extra gear to really hurt teams when he gets in. He might get up to a run a ball by the time he reaches a hundred, but that's about it. An exceptionally consistent accumulator, but without that destructive power that separates great batsmen from very good ones despite what his average says.
Yeah he's a top tier batsman, run a ball hundred with other hitters finishing the job you can rack up the scores.Joe Root: 133 125 19 5351 133* 50.48 6140 87.14
Hashim Amla: 175 172 12 7923 159 49.51 8888 89.14
The biggest difference is the team. I mean the guy was the fastest to 7000 ODI runs.

This. Archer came in at number 10, that is some batting strength. I fear India fail miserably in that department. Once we are 6 down , thats it for us. 270-6 , we will be bowled out under 290. England can still go 300 plus after being 6 down.Everyone talks about pitches but one of the main reasons that England have made 300 easy is the batting depth , still not so easy to do if your 8-11 can't bat much
To be fair to Amla, I think he has been clutch plenty of times in tests. He’s definitely well into his decline now, and he was never going to be the one to lead from the front in this World Cup.The greats are winners. The greats are clutch players. Amla is just a stat padder.

I think this World Cup is going to turn very quickly into the big 3 + 1. The winner is definitely going to be one of the big guns. England may be peaking too early though.
No mate I'm not having that. Amla is one of the classiest top order in a generation. The greats are winners. The greats are clutch players. Amla is just a stat padder.
Yup. Could be a good match.WI and Pakistan tomorrow. Probably the two most similar teams in world cricket. Both capable of producing a best in the world type performance, or equally so collapsing to an embarrassingly floundering defeat. Impossible to call.

They had 200 for 3 after 35 overs iirc. They basically collapsed to 311 for 8. Ngidi, Rabada and Tahir pulled it back. That doesn't make it rather average though , it wasn't a flat wicket . They lost an early wicket and then lost wickets every time they tried to accelerate but still were sensible enough to score 311 which was pretty good on that pitch

West Indies are far better than Pakistan at the moment.

Not yet. WI haven't achieved much in ODIs to be called the better team. Unless you mean on paper?
Not many Pakistan or west Indies players in the fantasy teams. I've got Azam in my team
Azam will score 80 and a windies player will go off.
