Not too hard to admit it when your own ashley giles also before the match indirectly said pitches have not been great for the past week and this is the best deck. Not at all a coincidence just 2 days after Bairstow's comments we have ashley giles speaking about the pitch.

Nothing to get defensive about and it is far from acusing anyone. Hey if anything Bairstow played a masterstroke which is what I even mentioned the moment after he gave this interview. Top teams always have done that. Do you think I would have cared this much if Kohli or Rohit said something similar and asked for a spinning track. No, but I would also not be having this holier than thou attitude .

You both are acting as if i am accusing Bairstow or ECB as cheats which I have not at all implied. In fact go back and read my post where I kept on saying England are the favorites for this tournament if we get a flattish deck as no other team can beat them unless they are having an off day. No shame in admitting in that and nor would it take away anything from England's win.

Also, heard Kohli's post match interview. It was petty but I also think his frustration was also with the pitch and which is what he kept on referring flat tracks and changed deck from previous match. Ofcourse you won't expect kohli to directly question the pitch but it was clear how the pitch was going to be the moment Bairstow's interview came. I would not be surprised if we see mostly flat decks for England's remaining games. Making England favorites again.

I think what we are finding weird is that you seem to think the ICC care enough about what Bairstow thinks to prepare a pitch based off those comments. Plus his interview was what, 2 days ago? The pitch prep would have been well in motion already by that point.
 
Seriously this meltdown is so funny , people are behaving as if it's not normal to have flat wickets in odi's . Maybe just maybe having a few days of continuous sun might have had a little impact on it

Yep. You could just as easily say that England have been unlucky with the freak weather conditions, which have prevented the flat pitches we've seen around the world for years.

Also, if Indian's bowling attack is as good as some posters appear to believe, surely they could have outbowled England on this surface?

No I wouldn’t be stupid enough to have some sort of conspiracy theory that someone who gives a media interview 2 days before a match suddenly dictates the pitch when the ICC have regulations regarding the pitch. You clearly have an agenda despite your ‘I’m praising Bairstow line’. India lost, get over it.

Did Bairstow make India get 27 off the first 10 overs and then make Dhoni stop trying to reach the target? Maybe there was a secret message in the interview? Perhaps Bairstow controls the weather as well?

Our bowling is better than yours but your batting is much better than ours which was the difference today. Did you see some of the strikes from your openers that was some amazing hitting which not many batters could do. The only reason we managed to restrict you lot under 350 was because of our bowling otherwise we would have been chasing 380. Problem is our batting is not that strong and without dhawan even more weak so there was no way we would have chased something of 330 plus even on a "flattish deck".
 
England had lost to Pakistan on a flat pitch and India had beaten Australia on similar surface. Hence, I don't believe England had an advantage due to the nature of the pitch.
England openers batted beautifully in first 25 overs and scored that 20 runs extra which gave them an advantage at the break. Also, England managed to get Kohli's wicket at an unusual time which turned the game in their favour.
England were the better team marginally on the day and they won. There were no conspiracy theories or fixes.

We have a 1 man bowling attack and our bowling attack is definitely not better than England's - more variety, yes but not better.
 
Fully expected india to win today. Was not confident at all being an england supporter given our poor performance against Australia. The pitch and toss were crucial. Was expecting a 400 score given how bairstow and Roy were going. Both are absolute bullies reminiscent of gilchrist and Hayden. They clear the boundaries with ease when in full flow. I hope this is the end of moeen ali unless we expect to play on spinning decks. He's been poor for a few years when it comes to batting and can't count on him. Plunkett was superb today and is so reliable in the middle overs.
The wicket of kohli and it's timing were crucial. After that wicket you knew it was a huge task for india even though rohit scored a century. Indias problem seems to be the soft underbelly after kohli and rohit. And what's happened to dhoni. Seems far too complacent sometimes.

Just as an aside it’s definitely not the prettiest shot but I just love watching how they can just turn around a slog a ball harder than I could ever hope to hit something the right way around. I’d be lucky to get close enough to the ball to even be able to sky it off a top edge

Yeah it's a difficult shot, timing is key along with those monster bats they have these days making it easier, plus he also targeted the shorter boundary. Good cricket.
 
I think that India and Australia have been easily the best two teams and they have handled the conditions well . I don't believe that flat wickets give England a massive advantage over India and neither do I believe that bowling friendly wickets would mean that India win for sure. There just isn't much between all these teams and it comes down to toss and 1-2 performances on the day
 
Time to see if someone in this Indian management has balls or if theyll be another victim of the subcontinent "seniority" mentality and keep playing Dhoni
 
The best thing Jadhav did yesterday was not try and hit 4s and let Dhoni take the strike more.. Dhoni keeps hiding behind the others, letting them take the risk while he saves his wicket for the last couple of overs..

Pandya did the same, rightfully. Dhoni loves taking single to pile pressure on the other. Both need to contribute.
 
Did Dhoni get injured while batting? He was sucking on his thumb.. can we use that to drop him against Bangladesh? DK did win that Nidhas trophy or whatever :nervous:

To be honest we haven't had any home advantage at all so far in the tournament.

We built our current team because wickets tend to be flat and batsman-friendly around the world. We had two of the best swing and seam bowlers of all time but we binned them off in favour of a faster, more varied attack, ideal for bowling on belting tracks.

So what happens? We get to the World Cup and a freak period of weather leaves the pitches slow and bowler-friendly. We get to Headingley and find a pitch that suits the Sri Lanka spinners. We get to Lord's and the ball's swinging around, perfect for the world-class swing bowler who spearheads the opposing attack.

So when we finally get to play in conditions that favour us, I really don't see that we've got anything to apologise for.

He's basically your on-field captain though. Kohli may be the team's frontman but Dhoni seems to be the one running the show on the field. Given his age and experience, it's like having a coach on the pitch, guiding the younger players through the game.

What India definitely need to do is rethink Dhoni's role. Either promote him to number four or push him down the order. He hasn't got the legs or the power for the finisher role anymore.
 
They can't possibly drop Dhoni now . What India can definitely consider is Jadeja in place of Jadhav , that possibly weakens the batting a bit but Jadhav at 7 is hardly contributing much anyway. Jadeja adds a left hand option with the bat and can probably slog better

Vijay Shankar out of the world cup. Mayank Agarwal comes in. The 3D usefulness(or the lack of it) is over but we will be further scrambling to sort anything beyond Rohit/Kohli at the top and Pandya.
 
India has the top2 batsmen in ICC rankings, top bowler , 3 in top 10 off bowling rankings and Hardik is one of the top all rounders . Selection process around them is absolutely crazy though . Pant wasn't picked in the squad because he was only considered as back up wk and they went with DK . Then they pick pant in place of Dhawan. Rayudu was the backup batsman and now they have picked Mayank Agarwal . Pant then comes in and plays while DK is still sitting. It makes no sense at all
