ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

Yep, most probably. Not much to choose between them, but possibly because of the Australian dominance, I'd lean towards Warne.
I wonder what would go through the minds of the batsman if they had to play warne and murali bowling from opposite ends.

Let me try and put together a team which includes both Warne and Murali.

1. S. Tendulkar
2. A. Gilchrist
3. R. Ponting
4. Inzamam Ul Haq
5. Steve Waugh
6. M. Bevan
7. W. Akram
8. S. Warne
9. G. McGrath
10. M. Muralitharan
11. A. Donald

This is my top XI based on players I have watched over the years. Still can't think of a better no. 5 batsman, so had to go with Steve Waugh

My eleven, @Skills start watching video of these guys to appreciate cricket at its best.

1. Hayden / Anwar
2. Tendulkar
3.Pointing
4.Inzaman
5.Bevan
6. Gilchrist
7.Wasim
8.Warne
9.Mcgrath
10. Waqar
11. Murali

Based on players I've seen:

1. Tendulkar
2. Gilchrist
3. Ponting
4. Inzy
5. De Villiers
6. Kallis
7. Bevan
8. Wasim
9. Warne
10. Waqar
11. McGrath

Here's mine:

1. Tendulkar
2. Jayasuriya (close between him and Said Anwar)
3. Ponting
4. Mark Waugh
5. De Villiers
6. Bevan
7. Gilchrist
8. Pollock
9. Warne
10. Wasim
11. McGrath

Almost chose Gilly to open, and if I did that, I'd probably replace Jayasuriya with Murali.

That middle order though

Limited over Cricket is a lot different today. Difficult to predict how the great batsmen of past years would have adjusted.

I'd also pick different players for Asian and English/Australian/African conditions.

Ya, but then that won't be truly greatest XI, will it? There are some who have excelled across conditions. A good indication of greats.

Sachin Tendulkar
Adam Gilchrist
Brian Lara
Viv Richards
Dean Jones
Michael Bevan
Wasim Akram
Shane Warne
Shaun Pollock
Glenn McGrath
Curtley Ambrose

Imran Khan as non playing captain.

Wow. Big loss for SA vs NZ in warm up game. Steyn and Amla didn't play but they would have expected better.
Zimbabwe smashing SL as well!

England are on a great run at the moment! They could do really well! I'll hey needed was an Irishman to lead them ;)

Watching on a crappy stream. Umar looks in good touch, Misbah might finally get his century!

It is not counted in ODI records, these warm up games stats. Teams can play up to 15 players, 11 batting, 11 fielding.

Maybe they are not sure of how effective Ajmal will be if there is some change in action.

What are everyone's predictions for top 4 from each group?

I will go for:
Group A:
Australia
New Zealand
England
Sri Lanka

Group B:
South Africa
India
Pakistan
West Indies

That's my prediction as well.

From the players i have watched, starting from late 80's

D.Haynes
G.Greenidge
J.Miandad
V.Richards
M.Crowe
I.Botham
Kapil Dev
I.Khan
Jeff Dujon
M.Marshall
R.Hadlee

After 90's

Sachin
Gilly
Aravinda da silva
R.Pointing
S.Waugh
M.Bevan
W.Akram
Warne
Ambrose
McGrath

I might have missed few players from current era, but i would love to put them to other team.

Clarke misses the England game. How on earth is he fit enough to make a 50 in the warm-ups but not fit enough to play a competitive game?

He is not unfit. Australia don't want to take chances and want to stick to original schedule of bringing him back for 2nd match.

WI just about managed to win against Scotland in warm up game. Ireland beat Bangladesh as well.

Feel like this is going to be the year our winning streak against Pak in world cups is going to end.. It's matches like these, where not having Sachin in the team causes me far more nervousness than required.. Just can't trust Rohit or Dhawan to deliver..

On a side note, watched the highlights of the match from the 96 world cup yesterday(my first Indo-Pak match in world cup) and quickly remembered why I loved Venkatesh Prasad.. Can't wait for Sunday.. Excited as well as nervous..:nervous:

Actually looking forward to this. Plan is to stay up to watch Dortmund and then sleep only after the NZ vs Lanka game is over.

I am a Kiwi fan for the next 40 odd days. Will be interesting to see how they cope with it now that no one thinks they are the underdogs but one of the favorties.

Go Kiwis! Make this Indian proud.

How are the guys in Western hemisphere planning to watch this? Very weird timings for you people. Welcome to the world of us eastern guys staying up late till odd hours/getting up very very early to watch football :D

why would you support them over your own country? Unless you live there.

Although my first memories of a cricket WC is Gooch and Gatting batting us out of the competition at Wankhede, '92 is the first WC I remember clearly. Getting up early in the morning during school days and watching Greatbach take opening bowlers to the cleaners is one of my fondest memories in cricket . Always had a soft spot for the Kiwis.

Of course I'll support India, but with us not being very good and them having a genuine chance, I'll be rooting for them throughout.

Just defeat Pakistan. I don't expect more from this Indian team filled with mediocre players.
