ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

FFS, just seen the official screen graphics for the WC. Back to the 80's.

I sometimes wonder, had India and Pakistan not been partitioned, how good Cricket team would have been. India batting + Pakistan bowling. Not the current lot necessarily, but in general.

Well the Aussies wouldn't have won many cups in a row. I'll tell you that much.

Imagine Sachin, Sourav and Dravid with Wasim and Waqar bowling. Utter fecking carnage.

Or Kapil and Iman in the same fecking team.

Yup.

We would have destroyed all! Your batting plus our bowling

Would have been a shame to not see inxamam etc a lot though.

Inzamam would have found a place. But ya, some good players would have missed out.

How the feck has Gayle made into it and Ponting misses out?

From my time only, I'd go for:

Tendulkar
Gilchrist
Ponting
Lara
De Villiers
Kallis
Dhoni
Pollock
Lee
Murali
McGrath

I'd easily have Bevan over Dhoni and Wasim over Lee. Surely, Viv Richards has to be there as well

How can you miss out on bevan as a finisher? With gilchrist there, you dont need kallis. And no wasim, waqar or warne?

Kallis & Lara should not be in greatest ODI XI imo even though they had v.good ODI careers as well. There are many who had better ODI careers. For instant Ganguly was better ODI player than Lara and Kallis though overall these two rank way above him in all formats combined. Even Virat has already made the case to be in best ODI XI!

Back off gramps, I'm not that old.

Ganguly's another opener/top order batsman and I prefer Gilchrist/Tendulkar/Ponting there. I couldn't think of too many outstanding middle order/lower middle order batsman available, so Lara got in with his biggest competition probably being Hussey.

Same for Kallis in the all-rounder spot. It was between him and probably Symonds/Flintoff, and I went for the bigger name basically.

OK, fair enough. In the end, there will be differences in any all time XI discussions in any sport :)

I am personally big Kallis fan and rate him 2nd best allrounder all time behind Sobers only and collective caf opinion is not going to change it at all as far as I am concerned :D

 They all played in 99 WC!

With Kallis's strike rate, he should either be the top 4 or not there at all. At number 6, I'd rather have someone like Klusener than Kallis.

Our bowlers are struggling to trouble even the Afghans. Some would say it's not a surprise.

Big win for Scotland over Ireland. Ireland all out for 117 after being 57/0. This is what will make it tough for associates or Zim/Ban to qualify to knockouts. Even if they beat one big team, they are equally likely to mess up against other associates.

Anyone else think Cricinfo's new design is a cluttered mess? Preferred the old layout.

Don't think any top XI is complete without Wasim Akram.

Just statistically speaking (I didn't see him play because I'm not old like @MJJ) Saqlain's surely got a strong claim for a spot in the all time ODI XI? 210 wickets in just 110 matches at 19.41 during the 90s.

Saqlain was really good bowler, but I would still have Murlitharan over him in the team

I can't believe my list is more controversial than one which has Chris Gayle opening.

Yep, most probably. Not much to choose between them, but possibly because of the Australian dominance, I'd lean towards Warne.

The Aussie dominance remained after he retired from ODIs. In fact, their 2007 World Cup win was probably the most emphatic (though they won every single game in the 2003 World Cup as well).
