When he was going on about that, I was like Mark Nicholas brought him right back on earth mentioning South AfricaRavi Shastri saying on TV that only team which can beat Australia and stop them from winning world cup is this Indian team. No you deluded fool, South Africa and NewZealand are better and can beat Australia. Better concentrate on improving on weaknesses and do well when it matters in knockouts than making random statements after just one game.
Nope. Ganguly, Dravid, Manjrekar and Gavaskar are all good. Most Indian pundits are far better than the Channel 9 commentators. They manage to get the Channel 9 guys to actually talk about cricket.Indian pundits are the equivalent of Liverpool pundits.

Yeah for all the jokes, Misbah is probably still their best player
I said it earlier-but this is the first time Pakistan's batting line up has been stronger than our bowling line up.Bharat Ratna for the guy who conceptualized the 'Mauka' promotion. Genius!
Not to rain in on anyone's parade, but was this the worst Pakistan team we have faced in the world cup, or actually otherwise. The bowling was pants, even in the worst of times they have had a good bowling attack.

I wouldn't say our bowlers are bad necessarily, but there's not one stand out/strike bowler. Often we'd have Ajmal to slow down the RR or nick a few wickets (or Gul), but these guys seem to be a notch down from them.
One thing I will say about us this year is that we have a lot more cohesion (as opposed to a bunch of individuals in a team) and a lot of that comes down to Misbah.
Gul, Hafeez, J Khan all injuries...although Hafeez has claimed he's fit to play. But with all things involving Pak players and the PCB, there's definitely some politics involved. Mo'hd Amir I think has just finished his ban recently so I'm not sure if he's fully fit or has been rehabilitated properly. The biggest loss for us is Ajmal though, world's best spinner and he's been taken out for his action (which is farcical and hypocritical of the ICC).What happened to Gul and Junaid? Both Hafeez and Ajmal are injured? When is Mohd. Amir coming back?
I think this bowling attack is terrible man. That tall guy is decent and Wahab can bowl well when he wants, but others are mediocre. Afridi is nothing special when pressure is not applied from the other end. You'll have a tough time in the tournament. Amongst the so called top teams, this Pakistan team along with England would compete for the worst in the tournament. I don't expect India do much better against the likes of SA, Aus or NZ, but this win ensures that we'll finish at the minimum second in the group, which would mean easier game in the quarters. Pakistan however will have to face Aus or NZ. Ouch!
Traditionally, when you think of wickets down under you think of bowlers having the upper hand with what they can do with the ball and livelier wickets.
Also bold prediction for the tournament: Kane Williamson will be player of the tournament (you heard it here first).
On another note-what does everyone think of the wicket so far? I haven't been too impressed.
Wickets have been good. People should stop putting too much weight on 300+ scores. 300 is the new 275 and game has evolved quite a lot in the last 20 years.
Hope that's sarcasm because Williamson has been terrific nick for the last past four months. Him being Player of the World Cup wouldn't be a major surprise. My money's on Corey Anderson btw.
Not much, four games...four 300± scores. I've not seen much help for the bowlers which is a pretty sad state of affairs in a sport already heavily weighted in favour of batsmen. But heh, the public gets what the public wants...
Indeed. Bigger bats, power plays, flat decks, generally smaller boundaries, two new white balls negating reverse swing. Basically there's not much for the bowlers.
England would beat India. England's batting as a unit isn't that good but they have a knack of rattling the Indians over. The Indians have a long tail so the key is to get Kohli out early. He has that winning instinct and the ability to take grip of the game and when he does well the others play around him. When he's out early they crumble.
There's truth in that but if you look at the worlds best batsmen (Amla, Sanga, Y Khan) although they can play these ornate, innovative shots, they excel in the traditional orthodox ways. You'll never get David Warner or Kohli etc being discussed as the world best batsmen because they don't do the orthodox stuff well. Also the way batting is coached now is very much away from the textbook. T20 brought the need for even the guys in the lower order to be able to contribute and also for everyone to learn to be unorthodox, hence the game is very much more 360. The best batsmen can hit the same delivery in different parts of the field. The old way of playing a straight batted shot in the batsmen arc or the "V" as it is known as is creeping out of the game.

I don't know if that makes sense.
