ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

Matt Prior recalled is a good decision. England's bowling looks a tad weak. Anderson, Broad, Bresnan/Shahzad.

Nice choice of Morne Van Wyk for wicket-keeper, too. Morkel should be in the squad, though. He's potentially a very good all-rounder(although has never delivered for SA), and knows the Indian conditions really well.

Can we have a separate forum for the WC?

The thing is like half a year long, definitely deserves a forum..

Unlike Lee, Nannes hasn't been plagued by injuries for 2 years.

You haven't got a clue about cricket. You need to stop watching it. In fact, I'm pretty sure you don't watch it already, that's the only thing that can explain your posts. All you do is moan like a bitch and talk clueless crap. I bet you were down at the pub last night having a moan about Merv Hughes not being in the squad.

Did the fact you were completely wrong IE: he's nearly 6 months older then Lee sting a little bit  "oh but he's been injury plagued" yes but ripping the shit out of the domestic league over the past couple of months kind of puts a nail in both coffins. What about the fact he can bowl 150kph with a good line and length as well??

I haven't a clue about cricket you you're the one wondering why Ian Bell was playing in the England 20/20 team despite being their most dangerous batsmen in that little series

Unlike most, i'm not going to act all patriotic and suck the dick of my national team and pretend like the selectors aren't a bunch of complete and utter feckwits. The results are there for themselves this summer so unless you've got any evidence to prove otherwise, I suggest you get back in your box and worry about how your country will bottle this world cup as well.

Not sure about Mike Hussey's fitness, reports yesterday he may be a doubt for the WC. I don't know why they haven't picked Callum Ferguson, he looks a good player from what I've seen of him and would be a vast improvement over Steve Smith in their batting line-up.

That is a truly naff team on our behalf, at least in my opinion...I mean Ponting isnt fit, he is the captain so I guess he is entitled to be picked...not sure he is entitled to be captain but I digress.

We have picked a second wk, why? I guess he is the back up batsman as well but to me there were better options that were left out....Ferguson, Marsh.

Mike Hussey was fit at the time of selection so thats fair enough but David? He bowls some usefuloff spin but his batting record in ODIs is bad.

The bowling line up of Lee, Tait, Bollinger and Johnson is ok although Hilfenhaus is the most economical of the Aussies and didnt get picked.

I am also concerned why we only have one spinner..who is now injured, Doherty should have been in there from the start.

But the biggest WTF of all...John Hastings! Cant bat, cant bowl and we left out Dan Christian who is right up the list in terms of wickets and runs in the domestic comp. What a joke!

Its bizarre tbh. They should have been stripped of all the matches if not for the fans being deprived of these matches.
One of the best stadiums to play in India and this is the situation. Its a renovation FFS.

edit: there seems to be a official request for extending the deadline to Feb. 7. I guess there is still some hope of retaining this match at Eden gardens. but current situation is disappointing nonetheless.

Anyone from on here going for any of the matches?

Anyone from on here going for any of the matches?

Not me. Nearly all the matches at Delhi are amazingly crap, with possibly the best match being of WIndies and South Africa.

Also it's a big shame that Eden Gardens won't get to hold a World Cup match.

I got tickets for India Windies. Might go to England SA or Eng WI if I get passes.

Chennai's got the best fixtures of the lot...

No need to rub it in

Colombo's got insanely good fixtures.

7 matches including a quarter-final and a semi-final.

And the tickets are like dirt cheap. Like 100x cheaper than the Indian tickets, literally.

If the Ind-Eng match happens in bangalore, I will see if I can find myself a pass. The best bet would be Ind-Ireland or the semis. fingers crossed.

how did they allocate india's matches. surprised to see us getting only India-Ireland prior to the shifting of India-England.

Might go for India-Netherlands, my friend has passes.

Other than that would try to make the semi at Mohali.

What passes are these ? I will also get passes to that game...maybe its the same category ones.

Why am I so not excited about this?

How times change :(

Me too, can not seem get myself up for this at all. While I was buzzing at the start of the football WC last year. Might change when the QFs start.

At least you're pondering whether to go for a few. I'm guessing once it begins I'll begin to care about the results and it will start to affect me, but there was a fanatical support that was there as a kid and that's still there in a lot of my friends, that isn't around anymore. I was far more excited about the football one as well. The thought of a few games every single day was brilliant. I doubt I'll really care about watching other teams this time. Maybe the last hour if it's close.

India must have a very good chance in the world cup. Especially if Shewag and Pathan get going in a single match then you would expect pretty much any score could be chaseable

India's World Cup squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain), Virender Sehwag (Vice Captain), Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Praveen Kumar, Munaf Patel, R Ashwin, Piyush Chawla.

I know its been discussed about a dozen times and 5 times on sundays, but why is Piyush Chawla in the team?. A third spinner who doesn't spin the ball, who's stock ball is the googly, A spinner who can bat a bit?. Seesh, the tournament's in India surely taking him along as a tourist can't be considered one of the reasons.

Indian cricket has a very bleak future if Chawla is in our best 15 right now. I believe his domestic form isn't that great too. Surely there's someone they could've taken to SA given a try out before including him in the 15. Chawla, Wtf!!!!!

Other than him though, I think the team's alright. Yuvraj might be classed as a "world class" batsman again because he's a flat track bully and we'll be served up with rather dour pitches. Raina's case the same, albeit he's worthy to the team as a fielder alone since lately his batting's been shit, his bowling always been a bit "meh".

A question to those who follow the domestic circuit more closely than I. Zaheer's ascent to being India's top bowler started with this time in the English County, surely bowlers like Sreesanth would benefit from some time over yonder. The richest board in the world can't make a tie up with the ECB now huh?

Hussey & Hauritz out of the WC, big blow for the Aussies losing Hussey - Ferguson & Krejza come in.

Huge blow losing Morgan, didn't have the best series but is a terrific batsman.

Morgan out of the world cup.

Terrific ODI Batsman, big blow for England that.

In other news, Praveen Kumar is also out, which means Sreesanth gets a spot

not sure if you guys would be interested but i have made a post in the sports section for a fantasy cricket world cup. please join if possible.

Have to say, the fixtures look terrible. There are at least 4 shit matches every week. Too many poor teams. Should've been 12 teams, not 14.

Im afraid there's no "cricket fever" for this world cup.

No one seems to give a shit about it anymore....atleast it seems that way in delhi/north india.

Likewise.

I reckon there's just too much pointless one day cricket.

I think there's too much pointless cricket in general. Too many nothing pitches have lead to not enough quality contests and quality players in general apart from those from earlier generations. And there are just too many different formats to really care about every single 'event'.

My guess is I'll get up for India's matches when they come around. I'll be watching some of these players I've grown up watching for the last time at a major event. But as a whole my cricket interest has reached a saturation point. Hopefully this world cup can change that, somehow.

We smashed Australia in the warmup game! They were chasing 215 and were 118-1 before the spinners just caused chaos in the Aussie middle order.

How the hell we did manage to win this match, Chawla was pretty good.

before the match I was hoping we'll lose this one so that the hype machine will come to a halt.. everyone expecting us to win the thing :\

Kohli very good again. Gambhir finding a bit of form.

I would've liked to have seen Yuvraj get a bit of a hit. Dhoni walked in at 3 down instead.

Canada giving England a game here.

England beat Canada but they've now decided to shove KP up the batting order for the WC. Might not be the worst decision in the world but why didn't they try it in the 7 games they had in Australia? Poor management imo.
